I hope it all made sense. Location, bait and patience are the three main keys here. Although I will say that we've sat there all day with nothing on a small tide so that will play a key as well.

Finding Joe Perfect sense, bud 👍 I’ve fished all my life but only from surf beaches, never a boat 😉 so I kinda know what to do. What I like about these kinds of video is being able to gauge how much importance each factor is given. And it’s good to know that having a study of the area BEFORE ya get there is something you blokes are pretty keen on 👍👍 I was surprised that you didn’t touch on sounding a location for fish? I’ve seen other video where they tend to move around until they’re seeing fish on the sounder and then hit that spot. Whereas I think I’d probably do a little of that but would be more likely to have a crack at a good looking spot even if it wasn’t showing fish on the sounder at the time (like you guys seem to do).

Do you anchor on top of the reef or the bottom? Do you fish the top or bottom of the reef? Heard 2 different opinions...
@findingjoe
@findingjoe 3 жыл бұрын
@@mattgazz2817 We do both. Really no right or wrong. You could sit on the edge so you have a few rods on the top and some on the bottom. Its all about patience and tide change. Plenty of reefs out there waiting to be explored.

Hi do you know i was born in queenscliff in 1951. My grate grandfather my grandfather my father and my uncles cousins were professional fisherm. They never had any of the high tech stuff. They had cootta boats they used nothing but hand lines they used simple bait cootta, salmon, squid scuttle fish. They used totally different set ups to yours, they used lead lines. For lures they made their own mostly 1/2 inch dowel painted orange. Made their own crayfish pots. On Christmas eve 1975 after I came out of the army my father and I caught 548 kilos of snapper all on hand lines in the south channel. They caught more fish than you have ever dreamed of all different types. They knew all the best fishing spots and they handed them down in generation after generation. I can take you to probably 12 different fishing spots near queenscliff port Lonsdale and the rip or outside the rip. My relatives were Shapters my mother was a Shapter she married my father he was a Hutton hence my name. Queenscliff was a very different place me growing up to what it is today but I still know everything my grandfather and father taught me. Just some info for you the flood tide is the incoming tide and the eb tide is the out going tide. It can be a great place to fish but also can be extremely dangerous something that professional fishermen knew too well. But amateurs either don't know or ignore or to ignorant to realise. My relatives saved probably near one hundred amateurs lives out there. Good fishing stay safe. Bruce Hutton 🦈🤔

Hi Fellas, Nice vid. Just wondering about your definition of slack water. I always understood slack water to be at the peak of hightide or the lowest point of lowtide, not the halfway point between high and low. Up the top end of Westernport near Eagle Rock i'd fish a couple of hours either side of slackwater, before you need a couple of bricks to get a bait down.
@findingjoe
@findingjoe 3 жыл бұрын
Slack water at The Rip refers to the times that the water level in Bass Strait is the same height as Port Phillip Bay. Which also coincides with high and low tides at Williamstown. High and low tide at the heads is still it's fastest running times and shouldn't be crossed at that time.

Just stumbled across your channel and ripping through the vids, Great effort! I notice in this one you're running the same sounder as me ( 1020xs ). What transducer are you using ( I've got a GT23M-TM ) and any tips on set up at certain depths etc? Some sounder shots at some stage would be great ( unless I haven't come across them yet.. ) Keep up the good work!! Cheers.

You guys seem to smash the gummy’s. question when you go collect your bait will you sacrifice a little of the tide to keep getting your fresh baits have always wondered about this I feel I need to be in my spot as soon as the tide starts. Cheers in advance
@findingjoe
@findingjoe 2 жыл бұрын
I guess technically you do. We normally choose a tide to fish and either spend an hour just getting bait ready for the tide you want to fish. Offshore we normally fish all day anyway, in the bays you wanna be setup 2 hours either side of the tide.
