Really appreciate your no nonsense fishing videos without pushing some sponsors product like other video sites! Hello Fishing with BN'Rods.
@petrhermanadventures95097 ай бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. I'm a fan of Rodney's and I think he's promoting his sponsors in a genuine way. I don't make a living from KZfaq, so I don't need to do that. My KZfaq revenue pays for my Gopros, I go through at least one per year.

100% about the fishing net. I actually leave mine on the bank and every outings others are asking if they can use it... Same goes with prepping and pre-tying gears that's such an under-rated and yet it saves a lot of frustration and time !
@petrhermanadventures95097 ай бұрын
I always offer to net fish for people. It eats into my fishing time, but it's worth the effort. People assume I'm doing it to help them, but I do it for the fish :)

I would never complain from my arm pain due to too many caught Chinook.. Nice video though. Thanks

It isn't just the chinooks, I have elbow damage from construction work too. I'll try to cowboy up next time :)

Thanks for watching, I don't have a middle name, it's also a story of it's own.

You videos are so informative and well thought out. The tips and explanations, are things I will try putting into pratice. Thanks for making these! Question, I've heard of the method of using snaps on your mainline, but for the life of me, I can never find suggestions on what size?
@petrhermanadventures95097 ай бұрын
Size is pretty much irrelevant. I just use whatever I find in the river. Too small and they're hard to open, so "medium" I guess. Don't need heavy gear for coho, but it's good to have something sturdy for chinooks and chum.

Peter love videos very knowledgable for sure maybe give me a hint or some spots or with those not as many people you look like you’re fishing in some pretty nice water right now
@petrhermanadventures95097 ай бұрын
This was filmed on a Monday late afternoon, so not many people around. lt pays to hike around, many hidden little gems on the Vedder. I don't mind fishing with people, as long as it's not very crowded, but I look for secluded spots to film these videos because it's very strange to do a monologue with people around.
@nickliao28207 ай бұрын
Hey Peter really really appreciate for all your videos and tips. Its my first year at the Vedder river and my first 2 trips were a learning curve for me. After I watched your video, i followed your advices on bring extra rod with spoon along with my floating set up today. I was able to land a Coho on a spoon after switching my float set up in the morning and retrieve as fast as i could. Thanks to you, i have landed my first hatchery coho! Hope to see you out there somtimes!
@petrhermanadventures95097 ай бұрын
I'm glad you were able to put my videos to good use. Many people don't have someone to teach them the proper ways and resort to snagging instead. I didn't catch a single coho my first year, maybe sometime soon you will be outfishing me.

Peter, are we approaching the tailend of coho season? Is November still a best time to target coho?
@petrhermanadventures95097 ай бұрын
Have a look at the video I made that explains the coho run timing. Yes, we're past the peak of the run and numbers are on the decline, but there are a few weeks of decent fishing left.

Hi Petr. Do you think the type of mesh on the landing net makes a difference whether the fish gets an eye infection? Should we be using rubber nets? What about in lakes? K
@petrhermanadventures95097 ай бұрын
Salmon have tough skin and heavy slime coat, only the eyes are easily damaged by abrasion. Mesh type is less important than it is for trout. I use rubber nets and I don't touch the fish unless I have to, but any net is better than no net.

Hi Peter. Yeah, I’ve seen lots of people dragging the fish in the rocks then they release it. I don’t fish but I love taking videos of fishing. I would appreciate for suggestions where to fish near Chilliwack or Mission. Thanks.
@petrhermanadventures95096 ай бұрын
There is plenty of water to fish. Out near Mission you have the Stave and Chehalis. For me the Vedder is right next door, so that's where I go. The salmon season is over now and steelhead will start running soon. Many of hte lakes are stocked every year, check out Go Fish B.C. for the lists.

I’m curious what your thoughts are on missed strikes. Myself, and many times folks around me will be plagued with missed strikes. Beads do seem to have a less reliable hookup ratio compared to roe, but even with roe I find myself missing a hit completely or getting one head shake in. For years I’ve been trying to gather info on getting a better hookup - landing ratio. There seem to be so many theories out there!
@petrhermanadventures95097 ай бұрын
It's just part of the game. Some people have better reflexes than others, but with roe, you can also set the hook too quickly. Everybody has missed bites. Coho are challenging for many reasons, the soft bites are one of those reasons.

I like your net what is the brand and size ?do you recommend this one
@petrhermanadventures95097 ай бұрын
I don't even know what it is. Random net I found in the river a couple of years ago. It's not big enough for chinook, but great for coho. Canadian Tire has a good selection of nets, I like Lucky Strike, shallow bags work best on a river.

Hi Peter. Springs and cohos are plentiful this year perhaps tackle the retention aspect of it please. We all know the daily limit for each are that you fish but what about possession limits? You just mentioned here catching a hundred fishes, are we allowed to have that much fish in our possession at home? Please teach us how to interpret this.
@JamesTKirk-yz5ng6 ай бұрын
Maybe read the regulations
@petrhermanadventures95096 ай бұрын
There is an annual limit of 10 Chinooks and 10 hatchery steelhead. There is no annual limit for Coho, chum, or pink when they are open. You are allowed one daily limit of 4 salmon from all waters and open species combined, but if you are away on a trip you are allowed to have up to two daily limits caught on separate days. You are only allowed to process fish at your permanent residence, but how many you have in your freezer at home is up to you. Our Salmon limits are very generous in my opinion.
@alvindouglas-perez486 ай бұрын
Thanks Peter. Yes @Jamestkirk-yz5ng I read the regulations but interpreting it can be different from one individual to another. Peter’s reply is much appreciated…
@alvindouglas-perez487 ай бұрын
The possession limit for all salmon from all waters is twice the daily limit. You cannot possess more than 8 salmon in total, “except for salmon that are at your ordinary residence.”
@petrhermanadventures95097 ай бұрын
To be clear, you have to be ready to provide proof of an overnight stay if you have more than 4 salmon in your cooler in the car. If someone thinks that an officer can't tell one day old fish from 2 day old fish, they're in for a big surprise. I have an entire video just on regulations, but it's a few years old now, I'll re-do it for hte next season.

Great video, shame that most people fishing doesn't care, DFO doesn't care for sure. Lover river with low water was absolutely disgusting this year again.
@petrhermanadventures95097 ай бұрын
The whole point of this educational series was to try and steer people in a good direction. I don't expect to change those set in their ways, but new people on the river are always looking for solid advice. Yeah, I went by the lower river a couple of times and the amount of deliberate snagging I saw was appalling. It's not like that everywhere, was fishing with 15 people on a run this evening, not one float rip by anyone, just laughs and fish.

Peter your the only youtuber doing it right... There are many reasons why, and I think you understand all of them. All of these wannabe fishing celebs need to take a page out of your book for they know not what they do. Too many youtubers are of the "look what I did, bro," with total disregard with where they do it and even go as far as defending the act... The reality is, they plague things into a canal fishery, that even they can no longer fish because the regulations are an utter joke, if you get my drift.

Your the G.O.A.T great video
@petrhermanadventures95097 ай бұрын
I do have a couple of "catching" videos planned, I hope you don't mind too much. But yes those kind of video give people unrealistic expectations and put additional pressure on certain spots. I do my best to balance that against educational value.
@petrhermanadventures95097 ай бұрын
So are you going to be mad at me when I post a catch'n cook? I agree that some of these videos do more harm than good and I do strive for a positive balance.
@stevemcneil73267 ай бұрын
How many fish are you missing due to having a bead (with no hook) 12" above your hook with roe... Makes no sense...
@petrhermanadventures95097 ай бұрын
I'm not expecting to catch fish on that bead. I slide it up and out of the way when I'm fishing roe, then I put it back where it belongs to fish bead only. Sometimes I get a bite and the bead is 6" further down, that's when I know I missed a fish and might want to try beads only.

Just go to the grocery store and buy one for $40 instead of wasting 90 mins driving there and back, $30 in gas, putting up with shoulder to shoulder idiots and probably $20 worth of gear.
@petrhermanadventures95096 ай бұрын
What you say is true for many people. The salmon they get from the river are much more expensive than store bought. On the other hand they were not harvested in gill nets by corporate fleets and it beats a day at the mall. My reality is a little different. I live 2 minutes form the river and often catch several fish before I lose a $1 hook. That's because I don't dredge the bottom. I end up fishing spots by myself about 30% of the time because I've learned to pull fish out of marginal spots where nobody else really wants to fish.
@JamesTKirk-yz5ng6 ай бұрын
We need less fisherman on the river. We need max annual coho limit of 20 Tired of all the pros who get 120 plus salmon a year....
@petrhermanadventures95096 ай бұрын
Why would you care how many fish I catch? Coho season is roughly 40 days long for me and I am well over 120 fish landed in an average year. About 1/2 the time I'm fishing in spots completely by myself and you're telling me there are too many people on the river. What we nee is more people with great fish handling and good etiquette, which is the entire point of my educational videos.
@JamesTKirk-yz5ng6 ай бұрын
Go ahead keep getting your 120 fish a year. Like I care. Teach a 1000 people to do the same and fish the river out. I don't care. Do you care what I catch. Not a chance. I got 4 fish this year in a 160 hrs of fishing ...You fished 80 hrs a season and got a 120 lol ? So yeah keep at it. Empty the river. I have no issues with fish handling and etiquette. 20 coho annual quota is coming.
@petrhermanadventures95096 ай бұрын
@@JamesTKirk-yz5ng I'm not sure you realize how ridiculous it is to blame people who catch lots of fish for your lack of success. Clearly there are lots of fish to be caught, drive up to the hatchery, there are about 30 000 coho up there beating themselves to death to get into the spawning channel. It's not like I have a special license to catch more fish than you, just more experience. Watch all the videos from this year and you might start catching more. Every little hint helps and my intent is to teach people not to snag and floss because they don't know how to do anything else.
@JamesTKirk-yz5ng6 ай бұрын
The annual coho limit is something I can't wait to see in place for the province. WA state has an annual limit of hatchery coho.
@alexanderlawson16497 ай бұрын
You're Salmon resource is finite. Here on the west coast of Scotland, all of the rivers have sufferred a collapse in stocks of Atlantic Salmon, on a huge scale, its almost a waste of time, fishing for them and the few that do get caught, have to be returned. The question now is whether it is morally acceptable to continue to try and catch a fish on the verge of extinction. Its not got to that stage in the Pacific North West and I hope it never does, you have been warned.
@petrhermanadventures95097 ай бұрын
I'm from a country where the salmon were wiped out at the start of the industrial revolutions, some 200 years ago. A big part of what I'm truing to do with my channel is to encourage conservation and proper fish handling. If we don't take care of these fisheries, they will indeed disappear.
