In this episode we show you how to tape your cast net to catch more shrimp when trying to catch shrimp in deep water. Taping your net allows the net to stay more open as it sinks to the bottom. This is great for trying to catch shrimp in the day as that is usually when they move to deeper water. At night off a dock in shallow water tape wouldn't be necessary.

Below are some links to the different nets you might use. Betts is a good brand of cast net but if you have a favorite brand by all means use that.
For catching Shrimp for food we recommend 1/2" mesh 6 to 8 ft in radius. The 1/2" mesh just works to filter out the small shrimp that are harder to later de-head, peel, and cook.

For bait Shrimp you a smaller 3/8" would keep smaller Shrimp in the net.

Here is a mesh you can buy with webbing sewn in. Notice this is quite a bit more than taping it yourself but if you just prefer to buy it here it is. Sometimes you can find local people who can sew this in to nets that you already own as well.

If you taped over the draw line just cut tape instead untaping it.

That is our designated shrimp net from here on out lol. Over time it will start to come off but I don't think there is an easy way to take the tape off. We just have nets for shrimp and nets for bait.

How long should the hand line be? I would assume you’d need to add quite a bit to account for current and net drift throwing in 15’-20’ of water? Thanks for the videos.

In 15' to 20' you might have to add to your line depending on how long it came. I'd probably want 40 ft or so.

Have you every used the 1in tape to make it sink faster? I was wondering if it still works like the 2 in g tape.
@ReelHazardous
@ReelHazardous 3 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried 1" tape. I could see it being a compromise between flare and sink rate though.

@@ReelHazardous would u think 1 in tape would work better on smaller nets? Or just leave the tape off ?

If I’m throwing in about 4 to 6 foot of water do I actually need tape on my net?
@ReelHazardous
@ReelHazardous 11 ай бұрын
No I don’t think tape would help much if you are in those depths.

How many feet of duct tape to do a 10 ft net? On one side then then double it?
@ReelHazardous
@ReelHazardous Жыл бұрын
For a 10 ft it’s about 63 ft per side.

who came up with the idea of taping nets and why?
@ReelHazardous
@ReelHazardous 2 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure who but the why is that it keeps the net much more open. Maybe they got the idea from a parachute lol
