This is the first time I've changed the membrane. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TELLING ME TO WAIT AN HOUR. I didn't see that anywhere and I was wondering why my tds wouldn't go down. I appreciate you!

Your video has just helped us so much, first time today putting together an RO/DI system this whole video has been the most informative one I have been able to find. The close ups of the parts was a also a fantastic help.

Thank you this honestly helped way more than the manual they gave me

Marc, how do you know when the membrane needs replacing? I understand when to change the pre filters, but the membrane I'm unsure. The reason I ask is I acquired a used system, and I do not know how long the membranes have been installed (there are two of them in my system). My current TDS readings now are 0. Thanks.

+Dean Oros Dean, two things usually happen: the good water comes to a crawl and all the water comes out the waste line instead (at 8:1 or 10:1 ratio), or the TDS coming out of the membrane spikes all of a sudden ( measuring 40, 80 or higher). That's why you do want to measure the water's TDS prior to the DI stage so you will know if all is normal or not.

I got my cap off by running hot water over it for a couple mins and it came off eazy

That is a great idea! Never thought of it.

This worked great for me. I was unable to open it before I warmed it. Thanks for a great tip Robert.

Great Video! I just changed the membrane, NEW, but water is not coming though. Installation is correct. How do I know if the membrane is defected? Thanks!

You obviously made a mistake in the connection of the membrane

Do you sell the DI part at the end alone?

My plumber told me to be concerned about bacterial contamination from the hands. Have you ever had issues with this?
@melevsreef7 жыл бұрын
No, not at all. But if you want to sanitize all parts from time to time, you can do so with bleach water (10 parts water to 1 part bleach, rinse very very well, and let air dry overnight).

okay nice! that puts me at ease a little bit. he had me quite paranoid about handling the filters when i change them! thanks for the advice!

I've never worn rubber gloves or anything, no. Never even thought about it, but I tend to keep my hands clean all the time. :)

Why does the waste line need restricted flow?
@melevsreef6 жыл бұрын
If you don't restrict the flow, all the water will go out the waste line and none will pass through the membrane. Both work together to make pure water.

what happens if i do not run an hour to flush the food grade ? will it kill the fishes and the corals ?

David Cher David, I don't know. I did what I was told 15 years ago and repeat that good advice. This is only done with a brand new membrane. After the first five gallons have been tossed out, it's good to use from then on.
@lindasreef6 жыл бұрын
I believe you get very high TDS as the membrane is coated with preservative.

After 1 minute my waste water stops flowing. Roughly 4 3/4 cups of water. The rodi is 1 month old.....help
@melevsreef6 жыл бұрын
That's odd. I'd need more details. Did you check that your cold water feed is fully on? Does this RO system have a pressure gauge to indicate pressure?

what's the size of the oring for the housing?

This is for the white membrane housing. melevsreef.com/reefshop/reverse-osmosis/parts/membrane-o-ring
