Thank you. I'm a 70 year old female with a sick and unhealthy partner so I watched this video once, went into the garage and fixed it. I spent more time tracking down his tools. He was never one to put ANYTHING away but after I found the appropriate socket and wrenches I took less than 5 minutes. Love this machine, best one I've ever purchased. I hit a dead, frozen squirrel that was like a block of concrete.

I got an Ariens for Christmas and was sooo happy. It wasn't doing a great job, but it's an ARIENS!!! We had about 12" fall last week and I couldn't understand why the hell it wouldn't go thru the snow. It's an Ariens after all. Even w/ both wheels engaged, it was harder to use than the little 22" MTD unit I had since 1996. WHUT? But it's an ARIENS!! Today, another 5" of fluff came down. My neighbor came out and spoke w/me. He saw the hard time I was having. He told me that w/ the first snow of the season he saw that my front auger wasn't driving. Lo and behold the shear bolt is gone. No lug in the shaft (nub?). AAAAND ....NO sign of abrasion on the paint on the blade. In other words the original was NOT installed. UGH. Ariens? My email will follow, don't worry. I'll have pics etc Ariens? What a let down, to tell you guys the truth. Now go yell at someone in QC. Serial numbers, dates of sale/service will follow. After I do the job in my garage that you guys should have done. You owe me a case of beer. Ariens? C'mon man! I feel so 'Let's go Brandon' right now. :D

I just bought a Ariens 28 Deluxe SHO snow blower from my local Ariens dealer. My last snow blower was 12 year old MTD yard machine 26”, still runs but, I want a new one! I just replaced the gear case too.

It worked like a charm and saved me a big repair bill. Thank you!

I was ready to lose my mind until I found this video! In the middle of a Nor’easter and no snowblower 😢. 2-3 minutes later and I’m back to clearing my driveway 👍🏽

OK, the last two comments I read described the issue I had with this procedure. And...I think I figured it out. They didn't explain it in the video, but the bolt holes in both the right and left shafts are aligned. With grease all around the shaft, and thus the broken stud too, I spent a good 15 minutes trying to figure out where the stud/hole was. There was no differentiation between the shaft and the evenly-broken pin. Then I got frustrated and aligned the hole in the auger even with the existing bolt on the other side. (Luckily, it was basically right on top). I then punched....and lo and behold the stud popped out and I was easily able to insert the replacement. And going back and re-watching the video, it appears that the unit in the video bears my findings out- that the shaft holes on both sides align. Should make next time a lot easier! (Unless, of course, mine and the one in the video are just coincidental, and I end up butchering my shaft... :) )

Since the nut provided is self locking, wouldn’t it be better to back off from snug 1/4 turn to allow just enough play to allow the bolt to actually shear when need be? Or would that cause bolts to shear unnecessarily?

Is there one bolt On each side? Or just one bolt total?
@fordhamdonnington27382 жыл бұрын
The shear bolt broke but I can't find the hole OR the broken bolt! So I can't punch the bolt out because I don't know where it is on the shaft. The only thing I can do is drill into the shaft and connect a c-clamp to the shaft for now.

I hate it when they break off real clean and I can’t find we’re to put the punch to hit it . It can take 45 minutes to find it . Then there are times it breaks and leaves a little hole to put the punch and you can fix it in two seconds .

What happens when the bolt is in there but the holes aren’t flush and you can’t punch it out? I’ve replaced sheering bolts before, but since the holes aren’t flush I can’t punch the bolt out.
@AriensChannel3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking, Richard. Sorry for the late reply, but we just got this in from our technical service team: Align the holes in the auger and auger shaft. If the bolt is smeared, or not cut clean, rotate the auger 180 degrees and punch it out the other side. The auger should be able to rotate to align with the hole in the shaft, but if it won't rotate, you will need to contact your nearest authorized Ariens servicing dealer: www.ariens.com/en-us/dealer-locator
