Isn’t there a belt tensioner pulley you can manipulate to take the belt off?

The newer TJs are like that, the 97-99 models used an AMC 2.5L motor and the later model TJs used a different motor that has the automatic tensioner.

it took me forever to find a video on tension. a bolt in a yj video. it s a 97 2.5 tj engine in a yj but i dont have the tj bolt. i have the yj area bolt. ive backed it out and the belt stil wont come off.

I just put a new battery and new terminals cuz it was dead last week…dead again but starts fine if i use a booster and stays running. But if i shut it off, its back to dead as a doorknob. Guessing alternator or starter. Gonna start with the alternator even tho it still runs when booster is disconnected. Glad i watched this because I didn’t know i had to loosen the tensioner, i was going to use a pry bar.

@@camcordernonsense5264 yeah, I changed both terminals and even tho they looked fine the new ones were spotless. I guess a little surface rust or whatever it was was enuff to mess it up.
