Just wanted to drop by a quick thank you for the tutorial! Great job there and the information on the faceplacte, since I think this is a awesome conideration before stepping into the DIY realm of customizing. I love how that it's the faceplate and other controller components are customizable. I may find myself with one soon, mhmmm... take care!

Excellent video, thank you. I bought an expensive controller from an online company who specialise in bespoke shells. But like all my controllers they dont last more than a couple years because Im fat fisted and squeeze them too hard and damage the joy stick mechanism. So when I saw this video i practiced on my old broken controllers and then swapped my bespoke shell onto my current working controller. The screws were tricky to remove but once i found the right technique it was easy. Very pleased to have my bespoke shell in use again. And now when I brake this controller I know I can swap over the shell again!!

Awesome video. I bought a purple -pinķ hard cover for the controller. It fits perfect after watching your video. We would of never known about the location of the screws to pop off the top and side sections of the controller. My Granddaughter loves her new controller. Thank you so much.

I guess an option would be to go crafty. Disassemble the controller, use sandpaper (maybe a fine grit) on the white parts, spray with plastic primer, find some beige spray paint meant for plastics, and a clear coat. I build plastic models kits. So I have those things on hand, so it's not a big deal for me. Although, gathering such materials for what come be a one-time use, it might come to anywhere between £/$20-25. At that point, I bet if you did a little digging, you could probably find some custom parts in that colour for cheaper. I mean I have a 3D printer, and was originally going to buy some PLA impregnated with wood particles, and 3D print a faceplate. So it would not only look like wood, sand like wood, stain like wood, and feel like it too. But since it would be a one-time use, and I can't think of any other things I would need to print in Wood PLA, it works out cheaper to just buy this faceplate.

You can buy grips and back pannels from ExtremeRate that matches the faceplate, and in some cases you can buy the faceplate with the grips and back pannels

This was a good help. I found though that heating the plastic with a hair dryer makes removing the palm/side peices, far easier. That might help others.

I didn’t have a spudger so I just used a flat-head screwdriver and it came out nicely. If anybody else doesn’t have a spudger I’d recommend using the flat-head too.

Thanks for the video. I bought cordless screwdriver for the first time (Tacklife cordless, USB chargeable) and have just gone a bit crazy with testing it out--it comes with a Torx drivers. Now it's got me of customizing my wireless Xbox One controller for Windows (I'm a PC gamer, use nVidia Gamestream to play PC games on my Fire TV and smartphone), which is basically just an Xbox One S controller. I was going to buy some wood impregnated PLA and print out one since I have 3D Printer, and people have either scanned the original faceplate/shell, or 3D modelled it from scratch. But it works out cheaper to just buy this. Sidenote: If you don't have a pry tool, you could use something like a guitar pick (I play guitar) or something that's credit card-like.

I know this is an older video but I just did this to one of my controllers! If he didn't mention in the video, I believe you need a T8 torx (?) screwdriver (star shaped) I now have a Resident evil faceplate

When putting the screw in turn CCW till you feel a click (the screw will drop slightly in the hole when his happens) and then turn clockwise. This ensures the screw threads line up and you don't end up crossthreadding the screw. Also only turn till the screw stops and then tighten a little bit using two fingers on the screwdriver and no more than that.

I got one with The Wave on it! Put it on today, but should have checked the controller today because now it wont stay powered on. Dont think i did anything to damage it, but cannot stress how careful to be when doing this :)
