Thanks so much for this. The battery died at work, and I couldn't get it jumped so I went and got a new battery and as all the guys at work watched I put it in like it was my job, with all the right tools and no hesitation. Great video. It actually took me longer to watch the video than it did to change my battery! Thanks to those rocket scientists at General Motors who never miss an opportunity to make a simple procedure complex. I will sleep better knowing my battery is so securely held by all those clips. Even if I roll my truck I know the battery will still be sitting right where it should be. Now I think I will go test that theory, wish me luck :D)

This video has been up for a while, but I decided to look at it since my original battery has been in my 2015 GMC Canyon for over 9 years (not a typo), It is obviously time to think about a replacement (ya think?) and fortunately, I found your video. Very detailed and a major time saver for those of us who have not tackled this project yet. Kudos for a job well done!

I can't believe I had to Google how to change my battery in my 2015 Colorado. Thank you so much for the instructional video. I'm certain I would have broken/ripped apart a lot of pieces without it. I first checked my owner's manual and it wasn't even in there. And a special thanks to GM for making it so difficult...does anyone know if there is a reason for it to be held in so tightly?

The reason is simple, the engineers never have to do the work themselves. Additionally the more difficult it is the more they force people to go to the dealer to get it done therefore they make more money and you keep less of yours.

Tried to get this done at a local auto supply store, but it became very clear that the removal and install was beyond the salesperson. I had never seen a battery like that before, and I wanted to make sure someone competent did it, so I went to the dealer. Your video explained it very well. I will bookmark it, and in another 4 years, check it out and do this myself. Fabulous step-by-step description. I compliment you for it and and will subscribe.

THANK YOU! I had to change my battery today and there is a below zero wind chill. I did not want to spend any more time than necessary out there so i watched your video. I am not sure how long I would have spent out there with numb fingers trying to feel how that clip comes of the top panel on the left side with a screw driver. There is a good chance that eventually cold fingers vs brittle plastic would have eventually lead to a broken part. (my + flap is already broken like yours did) Thanks again.

Excellent step-by-step video. Thank you, you made my GMC Canyon battery change easy. It sure ain't like the old days of removing the terminal cables and then the battery. I would add: step 0 - use an ODB II memory protector. When I disconnect the negative cable I use a plastic grocery bag to wrap the cable end and then I use a plastic wire tie to hold the cable away from the battery to be sure that it doesn't accidentally fall back against the terminal. I recommend getting a pair of oil-based battery terminal protectors. Finally, I use a 13/16 spark plug socket with a small mallet to tap the cables securely onto the new battery terminals (an old habit) and then tighten them.

Parents have a 2017 GMC Canyon and we left to travel a bit and before I could leave town my battery died. Popped the hood and thought I was looking at something alien on the battery. Thanks for the great info and thoroughness.

Thanks a million, and a VERY well done video as well! I hope someone from Chevy sees this at some point. It's not a horrible design, but it should have been addressed in the manual, because this is very different from what most dot it yourself mechanics are used to seeing. It is more complicated that it needed to be, but then I guess they want people to go into their dealerships and pay $500 to get a battery changed.

Well, I just did mine thanks again for the tips, only issue i had was couldn't get the nut off the other end of the positive terminal, was afraid of breaking something, I was able to wiggle the old batt out and the new one in even with that plastic junction thingy still attached luckily. It looks like an H7 could fit, wonder if anyone has tried, searches say h6 and h7 are same width and height, but the h7 is 1.4 longer, and there are stops on the bottom of my 2020 tray that sure look like they're about that far forward of the battery? Again best video ever for this replacement!

I drove Silverado trucks my whole life and the new trucks, my 2015 and 2018 batteries went out at almost exactly 2 years. I have a 2022 Colorado now for gas mileage and it looks much easier to change the Colorado battery. On a Silverado you have braces to remove and it's on passenger side back in the corner. Good video
