Our battery was leaking battery acid and was having trouble starting the engine. If your wondering when should I replace my car battery. I also have a CX-5. You should invest $15 in a battery memory saver. They have OBD2 ones, but I like the 9V ones. You plug one end into your cig lighter and the other to a regular 9V battery before you change out your car battery. It will save all your car's settings, radio stations, and presets. Saves you the troubles of driving the car through a full drive cycle too to reset it's engine and emmissions settings.

I put in the interstate AGM battery into my 2023, CX 30 but prior to doing so I hooked up a simple 9 V battery in my cigarette lighter. all is well, absolutely no issues Group Size H5 650 Cold Cranking Amps (CCA)

#totheend -- Thanks for the vid Josh, I was up for it! Man the old battery, only a year and a half. Terrible. LOL I was a little surprised that both the old one and the new one have removable cell covers. Glad to see the flow of parts coming in for the GTR!

#totheend Thanks a lot Gary. Your the only one so far! Yeah, I have actually not seen a battery leak since I was a kid. I have never personally had a battery leak an any of the cars I have owned. Not the most exciting content to make, however these are the type of videos that consistently perform over time on my channel. Great video and it really is that easy. Group 35 battery $54.99 at Rural King everyday. FYI I replaced a battery with 08/21 sticker and my CX-9 had much white junk on the terminals. Must be a Mazda thing.

That is kind of sad to hear that your battery needs to be replace only 2 years later. I wonder where Mazda is sourcing their car batteries from. The dealership wanted $350 + tax to replace our battery. Glad it's easy enough to do ourselves. Thanks for checking out my channel, hope your new battery last much longer. Love the CX9, my parents just bought a 2024 CX90. I cant wait to drive that and experience the new 3.3 turbo inline 6 engine.

@@JDMRightHandDrive unfortunately most car batteries will only last you about 3 years these days. They just don't make them like they used to, That being said, I was happy my OEM battery lasted 5 years, Just to be safe and proactive, I plan on now replacing my own battery every 3 years with a Costco Interstate battery.

It is Panasonic made battery made for Mazda and is under full replacement 3 yrs warranty . Mine got replaced by dealer for 0$ cost 😉

The battery you are removing was mfgd 7/21. That is less than two years old and it is leaking like that? It is already an aftermarket battery. If your vehicle is a 2018 and the original battery has already been replaced once and you are doing it again, there has got to be some issue somewhere. Do you live where it gets really, really cold?

Yeah, I have a 2021 Mz3 premium sedan. Love the car but it is such high maintenance! Im fairly sure if I recall correct that the battery is not warrantied like all other stabdard replace parts. My previoys vehicle was a 2008 Mz3 i-sport. This newer Mazda is like a big cadillac as compared to the earlier generations. My CCAs are reading around 300-330 so Im going to attempt a chage. Only problem is, I get apprehensive just opening the hood to do stsndstd wipedowns. Does disconnecting the battery affectvthe i-axtivesense, telematics, or anything else about the vehicle. I thought Id attempt this first. Im not interested in spending $250 for a battery ad labor right now. The funny partvis that there ate numerous Mazda retailers around the nation where parts can be purchased for 1/2 the cost ofthedealership service departments. Dealership battery is $250/Mazda local retailer direct from Mazda online $130.

I noticed that the Mazda variants built in Japan require a different Group Size battery than the variants built in Mexico. Strange. I wonder if that has something to do with the electronics. Mine was built in Mexico and requires Group Size H5.

Juat FYI these Panasonic Mazda battries are under 3 yrs warranty. Mine did corroded in the midle like yours and Mazda have replaced it for 0$ under warranty and new battery also has 3 yrs warranty on it .

The batteries are cheap that come with a new car. My cx5 2024s battery just completely quite after three months. I drive the car at least 10 miles a day. Took it to the dealer. They charged it. So fingers crossed. They only have 475 CCA.

My 2019 Mazda 6 came originally with a Panasonic battery. After 4 years it was starting to crank slow so I changed it.

Doesn't CX-5 need EFB battery? Your CX-5 looks not old, it should have stop start function, which would require EFB, or CX-5s in the US market don't have stop start?

Yes, “all” video’s seem to forget that part, it is the Battery Management System that can but not necessarily will play up if the voltage drops to 0 whilst switching. In case it does : (1) Don’t Touch the pedals and push the Start button (the dash lights up) (2) Hold “iStop off” for 3 seconds (3) start the car (4) repeat (2) After a while (mine was 10 seconds) everything is back to normal and no orange triangel + an orange blinking light of iStop anymore on the dashboard. Eurospec Mazda CX-3 MY 2018.

I'm about to replace the battery in my wife's 2018 CX-5. The battery's top looks exactly like yours does in the video with the fluffy white powder accumulated at the middle like that, which is odd compared to where it is usually (on the battery posts). We bought our CX-5 used during the summer of 2021, so I was assuming the battery I'm about to replace is the one that originally came on the car, but after seeing your battery with the 2021 sticker on it, I'm not so sure now. The car was certified used, so maybe the dealership replaced the battery before we bought it. Perhaps Mazda got a defective batch of batteries in 2021.

Update: I changed the battery last night. I cleaned the old battery with the cleaner that neutralizes and turns red. I now have a strong theory what caused deposits at the middle-top of the battery at the hold-down bracket. I suspect whoever installed the battery overtightened the hold-down causing the battery top to warp downward in the middle which caused the service caps not to seal well, allowing the vapors to escape toward the middle of the battery. The bracket top strap was corroded away on one side... still useable, but the other side was well on its way, now with no protective coating.

@@CaboWabotv You might try loosening the battery's hold-down fasteners to take some stress off the battery case. You might get more life out of your battery.

If you cut power completely during installation you loose all computer settings and that can create some modules problem as they need to be reset (only Mazda dealership can do). Don't you have to keep the car's computer "alive" under some sort of power sourse (some use obd2 memory savers, or extra battery terminals clamped to the car terminals etc) while swapping batteries?

Personally we didn't have any problems with our car. After swapping the battery our CX-5 was working normal just like before.

Very interesting. I can feel my battery is currently on it's last legs and want to replace the battery myself but I'm worried that I'll have to relearn the throttle body, etc. I guess there is some leftover power in the capacitors that kept the memory alive long enough? Hmmpf. @@JDMRightHandDrive

@@CaboWabotv thanks for the advice, I saw those and almost bought one actually. I ended up just swapping the battery on my 2019 Mazda 3 GT AWD and had no issues at all. None of the instruments reset and I didn't get any warnings. The car was exactly how I left it. I did notice however that the car needed to relearn idle and the throttle control. Did a few half-hour trips and all is well. I forgot to put the bloody terminal protectors on though 🤦‍♂️

Leave it loose because if its a COSTCO battery you will be pulling it out for a warranty in a year Maybe a year and a half. If your lucky. 2 years
