Just did 17in lo pro today and on that HF changer and it was such a pain. Thanks for confirming that I was not the problem. I used tire irons to mount and had lots of trouble until I had my wife hold one in place while I used the other to mount. Also I had a little bead breaker clamp holding the tire in the valley below the bead ridge. And finally got it on. I will have to demount and remount again later this week so to try to get the fancy part of the tool handle to mount, I went to Home Depot and got an 1 1/4 inch pipe (about 16 inches long) to try to get more turning force from leverage. Praying that it will work so I won’t have to use the tire irons again.

Nice video. I'm an experienced tire tech, yet this is like 5 times harder than those electric tire machines. Glad to see I wasn't the only one who struggled, and I agree, to be scratch free take it to a tire shop, bu

Thank you for this video. I had a low profile tire, 18" also and it didn't want to go in as easily as the other tire mounting videos I've seen. Thanks for explaining how it is important to get the bead on the center cavity. Very hard to do on low profiles (because side walls are not as wide) and cannot get one end to stay down as I worked around; but the vice grips did the trick!!! Other videos showed using 3 to 4 tire pry bars. Then there was another video with multiple pry bars with kids helping hold the other pry bars to help the bead set in the cavity (gosh my daughters are still too young to help me). And then this; wow, I never thought of using vice grips!!! With 3 vice grips, I did use an extra pry bar to work my way. That's ok because at least I didn't have to buy another special tools! I also mounted with the rims upside down with mat pads cut to size and placed on my mounting plate. All this prevented scratches on the outside rim while tire mounting and it worked since I noticed also that the my rim cavity had a slight offset towards the inside. I suppose my alloy rims were really meant to be tire changed upside down.

Yeah a friend and I had his wife's car and it's a brand new Honda, we did it together and put the new tires on without scratching the wheels or anyting. Just had to take your time and use some padding.

Appreciate the video... the key for me was to make sure you get the tire in the valley (off the grove) on the opposite side of where you pry it.

I have a floor machine like that, it is about 40 years old and has a lever to refit the tire the same way as demount. This way you did it is unnecessarily hard work, but the clamps are a good idea. I will try one next time.

Appreciate the video. I knew it was possible to do 17 and 18 low pro's on the HF changer. A little more care and rubber pads could protect the wheel for sure. Hell can't be worse than the shops i've been to. You proved it could be done and thanks for that! I"ll be doing my 17's and 18's now. I just wonder how well the bubble balancer will work on these.

I had to do a friend's car the other day, and it is a brand new Honda with nice Wheels. We took our time made sure to use padding and didn't scratch anything and it was fine.

@@expresshappylife8619 Good to hear it works on big wheels. I just had a tire pressure sensor go bad on a 17" 245/45 tire. I'll get to try the changer soon on that one. Ever since i got my first car I always wanted to be able to do my own tires. Only thing left to do myself on cars. Again thanks for posting the video. I've got a few myself. Tools real people can afford to get the job done.

I treated my 30yr old steel farm tractor rims better than that, Harbour freight needs to have a demo weekend along with their parking lot sale. It really isn't as hard as that to mount and dismount tires😊

I don't think you can buy hands like mine at harbor freight, so yeah there's a tool issue with video. I would agree with the fact that you wasted 14min of your life, but surely with your invested wisdom, your outcome will be greater than mine. Thanks for watching and the feedback!

I've realized that I don't give a fuck about anything basic when it comes to cars. Where other people are enthusiastic, I don't give a shit. Like washing my car, detailing, dealing with wheels and tires, replacing wiper blades, brakes. I fucking don't care. I will put my heart and soul into serious work, but I couldn't care less about the simpleton basics. I laugh at my dumb ass neighbor when he goes out to wash his car weekly. It's the only thing he can do. I bet he thinks he's real cool when he takes it into the tire shop too.

I would call this -the Vlad the Impaler method of tire changing when it really doesn’t matter how badly you scratch the shit out of your perfect wheels- The guy knows what he’s doing when it comes to manually changing a difficult tire. But I would take these wheels to a place like NTB or firestone where they have modern “ touchless” machines that will not scratch the wheels.. Footnote. Both my sons had honda’s. A prelude and a CRX. I told them and not to buy low profiles and wheels for their cars because we live in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania roads are horrible. You need that extra sidewall tire and strong wheels when you live where the roads go from bad to horrible every year with the freeze/ thaw cycle,,That creates potholes. And then The road crews come around and fill the potholes, making bumps out of holes. here in Pennsylvania we have the highest gasoline tax in the usa that is supposed to pay for road maintenance ..I’m still waiting. my sons did not take my advice and stick with the factory steel wheels on their Hondas. not only did all four wheels on each card get bent badly because of the low profile tires that don’t really absorb bumps and protect the rim. But when my one son had a nail in the tire, the tire place where he bought the tires would not plug or patch the wheel, because it had a Z speed rated tire..In Pennsylvania, they are liable if they plug or patch a Z speed rated tire, if it fails...so they refused to repair the tire. do you know how they get a Z rating on a tire? It’s the same with motorcycle tires. They give them less material/less tread. Why? Because that extra weight causes the tired to “grow “because of centrifugal force at high speeds. They make the tire lighter by giving it less tread so that it won’t grow as much. So when you pay those extra dollars to get high-performance tires, you’re getting less tire at the same time.. The higher the speed rating, the less tread depth you get...

Probably better off just spending $1800 for an eBay tire changing machine… especially if you do a decent amount of tires per year.
