IF changing the oil takes 20 min or more STOP , something is wrong , get help an oil change should not take that long .As a mechanic its easy for me to laugh at people with no experience , but 20 min is far too long for an oil change .Also the foil idea is quite good , use it if your filter is in a bad spot , lie over the exaust or over anything else like rubber or plastic parts , those will fail if expopsed to oil and head for a long time

I prefer to "recycle" my used oil on my neighbors lawn.

Come on Ari - you know it never takes 20 minutes. Please add 60 additional minutes for unforeseen issues that always arise when I change oil lol.

it takes me 20 minutes to figure which direction I should spin the upside-down oil filter.

Pro tip: Before spinning it on, fill the filter with oil to saturate the media to reduce the amount of air that has to pass through the oil galleys and bearings of the engine during the first start after the oil change.

Oh and don't drop your drain plug in the oil container. Especially when you're lying on the ground next to your bike, this will splash hot oil around and into your face. That said, it does make you feel manly though with that "eau de used oil" on.

It's a personal thing for me, but changing oil and pretty much any maintenance I do on my bike is therapeutic. I take my sweet time.

I love Ari’s guides, however please spell “aluminium” correctly. Pronouncing it correctly would also be a bonus, but maybe that is too much to ask. Love, the UK

The first time I changed my oil on my Nighthawk 250 I overtightened the oil bolt so hard that it cracked the crankcase. On the plus side, I got to learn how to rebuild an entire engine, which in the long run was an experience I look back on fondly, but you can imagine how I felt at the time.

No excuse to miss an oil change when it’s this straight forward and liked the foil over the exhaust idea. 👍🏻

That aluminum foil hack is brilliant idea. I use an old rag.
