Oil filter and engine oil on BMW 1 (E81) (09.2006-12.2011) / BMW 3 (E92) (09.2006-06.2013) / BMW 5 (E60) (02.2005-12.2009) / BMW X3 (E83) (03.2007-12.2011) / BMW X5 (E70) (08.2011-06.2013) cars should be replaced, as a rule, according to one and the same procedure.

why remove the entire splash guard when you could just use the smaller hatch directly underneath the oil nut? Just wondering?

You don't need to lift the car and get underneath it if you get a fuel pump, Pump the fuel out from the dip stick

There are different ways to change the oil, there is a way to pump out the engine oil through the dipstick for measuring the engine oil level. But in this case, the oil will remain in the system and the dirtiest oil from the pan with heavy impurities will not be drained. It is also possible in the most severe cases to find something that could have unscrewed or broken off inside the engine. And this way you can protect yourself from even greater expenses during repairs. Since you were able to see the problem at an early stage.

Do you really need to take off the full plastic under cover? Isn't there a smaller inspection cover to take off instead of the full large one to drain the oil?

Thank you for your comment. This information will be very useful to our viewers. You're quite right through the lid easier. But when changing the oil, it is better to look at the condition of the engine. Therefore, we removed the cover.

@autodoc then write that in the video so we all understand why. Also, you don't mention the application of a little oil in the o'ring to help it seat without tearing. So this video is all wrong apart from telling me what tools I need, even that is incomplete as it doesn't mention the need for rags...

Check the outboard bearing and propeller shaft damper pads. Perhaps they are out of order. AUTODOC

You dont need to remove the under tray, there is an Inspection hatch under the sump plug. Haha

My 2007 E90 325i a/t doesn't have a dipstick....

The model in the video is a diesel, they have the dipstick, the petrol doesn't.

this particular engine (bmw M47) takes 5.5L if you change the oil filter (which you always should anyways)
