Thanks Lawren. Like the other reply, I too am familiar with doing oil changes, but these newer cars, you never know where they are going to cram the oil filter. I also liked when you showed where to put the jack and jack stands. Again, with these newer cars, sometimes its hard to locate a good spot for jacking it up.

Pro tip for those that change their own oil. Get a pair of ramps and wheel chocks. Way faster and easier than using a jack/stands.

Yep, ramps work. Or drive one side up on the curb and crawl underneath.

Understandable. Have a 2003 Saturn Ion which basically has a similar Ecotec/Oil Filter Housing (though much easier topside access to Filter Cap). Been using a Lift and at least 1 Jackstand for access. As RUST is rather rapidly eating away the 21 year old frame I may seriously need to find a rather Wide/Long/Low Slope Ramp(s). To make it easier. Parents had some Antique Metal ones Years ago... That tended to Slide and am Surprised a Vehicle never "slipped" or drove off of them. That's my biggest concern, having a "malfunction" with that style ramp and having to whip out a Lift and Jack Stand anyway and hope no other damage was done. I'm looking forward to trying this technique out my "new" 2014 with that substantial lift point in the front... Looks so much nicer/easier to work with

These 2.4l eco tec engines are pretty long lasting if you maintain the vehicle regularly and also don't abuse the engine. It is not designed to be a speed demon but it's a very fuel efficient option in a relatively large suv. I have a 2012 GMC Terrain with this engine option and it's an economical vehicle to own.

Thanks for the video. I know how to do oil changes but the placement of the filters in newer vehicles is definitely different from many years ago. One thing I didnt see mentioned is using a little bit of the new oil to lubricate the new O ring. That will keep it from drying out and create a better seal.

Thank you for the how to on the Terrain. We have a 2011 with 14400 miles on, don't drive it much. I guess I should change it as it will be 2 years come Feb 2021 since last change. At what percent life of oil should one chane the oil? Mine is 42 percent.

I just bought one of these not too long ago and am about to change the oil on it. I'm wondering on the oil filter would a 32mm open end wrench work as well. It seems like it would from what I see. Of course GM would go with some weird oil filter design and put the oil filter in a hard to reach place. They seem to revel in making it difficult to work on your own car.

I'm sorry I don't see the link in the description for the 32 mm socket. I bought two sockets at AutoZone and I dug up one in my barn they all fit snugly on this Bolt. But I cannot get any clearance to doanyting. All sorts of extensions in crescent wrenches and all sorts of things I've spent four hours on this oh my God. Please link to your shallow shallow socket please like you said you would!!!!!!

What you meant to say was that its extremely easy as long as you have the one specific tool that will probably fit down there. Deep well socket? Forget it. Crescent wrench? Barely, take forever. Best thing is a 32mm flex head ratcheting gear wrench IMO. Short socket still hits the metal bracket above it with a regular 1/2" ratchet so...

You'll need to use the same viscosity oil that the filler cap and manual state. I believe it is 5w-20 on this car but check to be sure. The video has the correct viscosity in it. You'll also need to use Dexos oil and keep your receipts to prove the oil was changed should you ever have a warranty claim

@@tomclose6643 I have a 2013 that burns around 2-3 quarts between 3k mile changes with around 101k miles, couple of guesses would be bad piston rings or frozen/carboned up pcv or a small leak that isn't reaching the floor. Also I think GM states that 1 quart loss per 1000 miles is acceptable usage with these 2.4l engines lol... I'd keep a close eye on it if it starts burning near the end of ur oil changes maybe switch it out earlier, I just keep it topped off and do frequent oil changes and the way I burn oil I started using the cheap supertech synthetic Think about installing a GM fc219 vented cap incase the pcv system freezes up and causes pressure that could blow the rear main seal, it was just $20 and gives me peace of mind in freezing temperatures.
