Short and to the point. Some people spend 20 minutes telling us the history of spark plugs and why they were invented and lots of mumbo jumbo like that.

You forgot to mention to clean out the spark plug hole before taking them out. Its rare, but stuff can get into the holes. Better safe than sorry.

One thing Scotty, always make sure the gap is correct on the plugs before installation. Even if they say they are pre-gapped, you never know what happened during handling. Just something that should be mentioned in the video.

MultiBeast301 Don’t gap new plugs, especially iridiums, you risk damaging the Center electrode. Pre-gapped is pre-gapped.

Nor should you worry about being off 1mm on the gap. Lol it the plugs 44 and the car asks for 43, I’m not risking my dumbass breaking the electrode.

Hey, I got an old Chrysler 3.5L V6 (1993 Concorde)! The intake manifold is a bit in the way, but as long as your wires are long enough, you can do it!

Yes I'm doing the 2013 Chrysler Town and Country with 3.6 L V6 I took the entire intake manifold off. After that the spark plugs we're easy. Just reinstall the intake manifold and I'm good to go. A lot of work for spark plugs.

Also for first timers, is it a good safety precaution to "tighten the spark plugs snug" by JUST tightening with the base of the ratchet instead of the ratchet end to lessen the torque, and then maybe do a half turn instead of a quarter turn?
@automedic9781
@automedic9781 5 жыл бұрын
Josh Isralowitz For someone on their first time doing it, it probably wouldn’t be a bad idea to use a torque wrench. But it really isn’t going to be hard if you just use a 6 inch ratchet rather than a typical 12 inch ratchet, and get it nice and tight. You’ll feel it when it’s time to stop, you almost won’t be able to turn it anymore without forcing it

Please help! First off thanks for the vids. Just changed my spark plugs but now am.worried i may have overtightened one plug ( torque wrench wasnt on lock position so.i kept turning till i realized) and now either the plug socket wont grip or the plug is spinning freely.. Also when i tried to put ignition coil back on the spark plug did not want to insert so i screwed down the igniton coil hoping itd slowly make its way in.. Started up just fine but im wondering what could this cause.. And how could i get my plug out.. Ill be buying a magnetic plug socket and see if that works but should i be driving like this? You really should add a little copper grease to spark plug threads, they can rust or corrode to the head depending it’s made from iron or aluminium and then you’ll strip the threads when you come to remove them, it’s cheap insurance to do a little precaution.

In a previous video he recommends dielectric grease in the boots to prevent corrosion. Is that still recommended (as long as you don't drown the boot with that stuff, since it's an insulator)?

everything went smooth - I tightened plugs with beam torque wrench to 11 inch pounds only to realize it was supposed to be foot pounds. They all seemed snug though. Later I went to tighten more but they didn't want to move even when I applied a good amount of force. I have driven the car so far without any problems. And as I said when I first put them in they seemed snug. At this point I'm not sure if they are undertightened or possibly overtightened because they seem very tight. Any advice?

Brad B Just take a normal ratchet and see if you can give it like a half a turn, you’ll feel when it’s tight

Unplugging cables? I have a VW, I'm already scared when I take off the plastic cover. Anytime I fiddle under the hood besides checking the oil or refilling washer fluid, something breaks or some warning light comes on. 😅

Use the OEM spark plugs it came with from the factory,will run like crap and cause misfires if you don't do it.Basically stay away from the Bosch and E3 Spark plugs which are problem childs.

Suggestion: first have the spark plug wells blown out with pressurized air to remove debris which is especially important in a high mileage vehicle like the one in the video because we don't want to have dirt fall into the combustion chambers.

Should you replace ALL the spark plugs at once or not? Reason for question, I got a misfire on a SPECIFIC cylinder. Car is a 99 mustang gt. Anyway, replaced that specific spark plug and coil pack on that specific cylinder, "Service Engine Soon" light is gone, and problem solved (for now) or so I hope.
