In this video we show you how to change the differential fluid in your 2017 Jeep JK. We show you the steps to do it yourself and change your differential fluid in your jeep.

Torque drain and fill plug: 25 ft/lbs
Dana 30 Axle: 2.1 Pints / 1.0 Liters 80w-90
Dana 35 Axle: 3.5 Pints / 1.7 Liters
Dana 44 Front Axle: 2.7 / 1.3 Liters
Dana 44 Rear Axle: 4.75 Pints / 2.25 Liters

Great video for reference, my 2 cents the drain/fill are usually tapered so you don’t need Teflon tape but if your worried about it leaking possibly a liquid sealant like permatex aviation gasket maker should do the trick.

The process is the same. Remove plugs, drain, fill with oil. Recommend using a bottle pump as it is a tighter space.

This really helped, thank you! I've an 18JKU with trac-lok. Used 75w-90 with no additional Mopar LSD additive. How did you pour into the front diff? Couldn't angle it properly. Ended up using a funnel and a long tube attached to it.

I wanted to know if putting a limited slip diff oil will be optional or required FRONT & REAR for the JK 2017??

If you are using Royal Purple the LSD is already added in the synthetic.

How much diff fluid did you end up using for the front and rear respectively? I've always found its just around or under 2qts for the rear and 1.1qts for the front.

So youve used 75w90 synthetic for the rear dana 44 because you have an lsd in the rear. Should you also use synthetic 75w90 on the front?

75W-90 synthetic became available when oil companies discovered the benefits of synthetics; they claim the 75W-90 helps a tiny bit compared to an 80W-90 conventional lube while offering the same or better wear protection. 80W90 which is conventional lube is recommended by Jeep. Me I live in a colder climate, so I go with the synthetic.

LSD additive will not hurt open diff.

Mobil 1 makes a 75-140W that is acceptable for the rear. I live in AZ so it is typical to tend towards heavier oils in our heat

Every 30k to 60k miles driven, more frequently if you are off-roading or towing. As directed in your service manual.

Front is same process, just might benefit from a bottle pump as the filler hole is a little trickier to get to because of the front end.

Not exactly - there is no clearance so you can not simply pour the bottle into it - gotta get tricky!

I see you put Dana 30 Axle: 2.1 Pints / 1.0 Liters 80w-90 that is what I have in the front should I use 80w-90 instead of 75w90?

I did mine at 39K and there was a lot of gunk. My mechanic told me next time do it at 10K.

Did you just show putting the Teflon tape on in the wrong direction? It will unwrap as you screw the plug in

That is correct, I started that way when talking to the camera, hence the jump cut.

If it is a differential fluid change. The answer is yes. Just remember you also have the front, but it is done exactly the same.

Maybe dealer removes cover and inspects the gears ? For some reason I think not.

I spent $100 on gear oil alone so this is not exactly going to be cheap but still great value to keep up on your servicing. I consider it an opportunity to be picky and select high grade oils.
