My landlord owns a house in a garage and a towing company and he calls me the KZfaq mechanic because I go to KZfaq and try to fix my stuff first before I go to a real mechanic but 85% of the time I get it fixed on my own. This is very helpful. Thank you again.

Have you ever changed the high pressure filter on this? Looks like a pain, but I’m considering just doing it.

Hey Thanks for Watching! I have not changed the high pressure filter on these vehicles before! The process appears straight forward..but my research shows most ppl run into issues with stripping the Torx bit screws that hold the filter housing in!! Not many videos on the process that I've found..if you decide to tackle the job, maybe you can film and share any tips or tricks with the rest of us!!! Either way Good luck, and Happy Wrenching!!

I have a question, Sir I am planning to change the filter and the transmission fluid for my 2007 freestyle how much liters do I need for that please ?
@minutemaintenance7385
@minutemaintenance7385 4 ай бұрын
@kanif9938 Hey thanks for watching! I used 7 quarts...(6.6 Liters if my conversion is correct) to replace the fluid I removed. After swapping the filter and replacing the fluid always check the levels when the car is at operating temperature AND in neutral gear, so apply the parking brake or get a trustworthy friend to stand in the brake pedal!! After driving another 50-100 miles I would recheck the fluid level, it should drop (not alot) but my need another 1/2 liter after absorbing into the filter and lines. In this video I also added 1quart of "Lucas stop slip" transmission fix..as a Conditioner to treat the Seals, gaskets, high pressure filter that is further in the Transmission and the old fluid left in the lines. The "slip fix" I used is NOT recommended for CVT transmission fixing, but will work to condition the areas I mentioned. If you're car is slipping Lucas does sell a CVT specific "stop slip" I'd recommend. That can be added to a full transmission at anytime and was not part of the 6.6 liters i mentioned before, it was in addition too! Hope that helps and Happy Wrenching!

I don't know about the Lucas additive. A cvt transmission doesn't use clutch packs to shift gears, but an oil change is one of the best things you can do for longevity. Might I suggest a high pressure filter change as well. Might prevent a future p0701 error code. Because of a clogged or obstructed filter when cold. Parts aren't super expensive, but it does take some time. Access is hidden behind the driver side transmission mount.

Hey Thanks for Watching and the Feedback!! Lucas does offer a CVT "fix" additive..however you are correct the one I used would not "fix" any shifting issues as CVT uses Metal Bands and Drums and "Rubber bands" as opposed to Slips due to wear or lack of pressure. The reason I used this Additive was simply for the gasket, seal and fluid refreshing it provides! Not for the "fix" You are correct high pressure filter is a great thing to change, definitley more challenging. Unfortunately I never got around to it as after another 30+k miles or hard driving (she was my Beater to keep miles off my 6.2l Ford) the Tranny gave up thr Ghost and started "Rubber banding" beyond repair. Thanks for watching and happy wrenching!

It literally says on the back of the bottle compatible with all transmission fluids except CVT and CVT fluid
@minutemaintenance7385
@minutemaintenance7385 5 ай бұрын
Hey thanks for watching and offering your insight! On face value you are 100% correct, the bottle does say not compatible (and Lucas Oil does offer a CVT specific trans fix for anyone interested, I just had extra of this on my shelf). The reason it's "not compatible" is not because it'll cause harm, it's because the "reason" is Different for why a automatic or manual transmission slips compared to a CVT so they can't guarantee this specific one will "fix" the issue. Automatic and Manual transmissions develop Shifting issues from lack of pressure and gear wear overtime due to use, where as a CVT develops the "rubber band" effect from the metal bands and drums becoming overly stretched. IF your CVT is already slipping not much can be done, they're infamous for being considered total losses and in my experience most local shops don't even bother rebuilding or want to replace them. (Avg transmission life on these specific CVTs are reported to be anywhere from 150k-210k miles) That being said this product will still assist in Preventative Maintenance and treating the Seals and gaskets, thickening the fluid for better grab by the Bands, and refreshing any old fluid left within the high pressure lines/filters that are a bear to get to on this model. BUT Humans being ones to ignore issues until they're at their worst, I'm sure that when most ppl grab this product, it's not for preventive Maintenance it's because they ignored their transmission for so long NOW its finally slipping and they're hoping for a "fix"..which this will "fix" the common issues in automatic and Manual transmissions..just not common cause of slipping in a CVT. BUT still great for Preventative Maintenance as listed above..and in the Video as that's what was being done..Maintenance, not slipping fix. Simple prevention of future issues and refreshing of the transmission system! Of course the manufacture can only recommend use of their product from a legal/sales stand point based on their specific research of specific problems and specific claims....but doesn't mean it won't also work for CVT, just that it won't work exactly as it does in others or exactly as they claim it can in other transmission types. Think paint thinner or Wd-40..product is made for a specific purpose but others have found it works in other areas as well i.e. wd-40 to remove paint stains and grease not just lubricate hinges and paint thinner in your gas tank will help clean your Catalytic Converters and loosen oil build up from inside the intake. Not compatible is not same as "don't do it will make issues worse" if anything, if you're already having issues..what do you have to lose? My transmission shifted perfect before..and after! For another 34k miles (estimately) before she began to "rubber band" on me and finally gave up the ghost!! But I drive Like I'm a race car driver for a minimum of 87 miles a day (42 miles 1 way to work and then around town and home) so I'm sure that didn't help! She was my Beauty of a Beater and I got almost 2yrs out of a $1,500 car. #winning Hope that helps, and Happy Wrenching!!

@@minutemaintenance7385 if people want to void their warranty on their transmission go right ahead and use fluids that specifically State they are not made for your transmission -. if it's out of warranty go ahead put nuts and bolts in it for all I care because hey there are already nuts and bolts in your transmission you might as well dump them right in

You should only use genuine OEM Ford CVT transmission fluid in the Freestyle and Five hundred CVT transmissions. Also you shouldn't use any of those snake oil Lucas products. There's a reason that only transmission fluid goes into a transmission and engine oil only goes into an engine. Don't use additives as they can actually cause more damage.

I like the zip tie trick. I'll be using that. Thanks. I see this isn't a new video, so maybe my question is better NOW: Has it been a problem that you used generic fluid? And has the Lucas been a problem? (I noticed on mine, the bottle says it's not for CVTs.) I have not done the filter(s) on my Freestyle. I DID remove some fluid and replace it upon seeing how burnt it appeared, and MY TIP is this: remove as much fluid as you can with an oil sucker first. I pulled a gallon out through the fill hole--the same hole you used to fill yours. I removed that plug and put an oil sucker hose in there and pumped the fluid out. Then I added back that same quantity of fluid. So when I change my filters, I plan to pump the fluid out first, and then drop the pan, and hopefully there won't be very much left in it and I won't have a catch pan to contend with under the car. Then I intend to change not only the filter you changed but also the one in the pump as well (Haldex filter?)... anyway, thanks for posting content. I have the Ford factory Workshop Manuals, but I wanted to see a video on the subject as well.

Thanks for watching and the questions! Sorry for delayed response KZfaq routinely fails to alert me to comments and questions. I did not have any issues w/ the transmission after using the Store brand fluid or the Lucas Oil. I will say I WAS already having slipping issues starting to develop from 2nd to 3rd which is what prompted me to do the fluid and filter swap!! I was able to get several more months of use out of this car before I decided to downsize the fleet and sell her off!! Overall I am not a big fan of the CVT transmission, Ford stopped selling parts and using them along time ago, and although she was still running and driving PHENOMENAL, I opted to let her go while I could as I knew the day would come, when the transmission would need rebuilt/replaced and my research at the time thru speaking w/ my local Ford shop and transmission shops concluded it would be an unfeasible feat and to get out now!

I have a question? I don't know if you can answer this, but, if you can it would be great! I cannot locate the transmission filter. it's not visible when you remove the transmission pan. I cannot find a video that tells me exactly where it is. I suspect it's underneath the valve body but I'm not sure and I really don't want to take it off unless I'm sure. Everytime I Google Ford 500 AIC is Ford Freestyle vids. Thanks a bunch for your time!

Thanks for Watching..Even if it Was Inadvertent!! I Do NOT Have Specific Experience w/ the Ford 500 and am Unable to Locate a Workshop Manual Online. HOWEVER I Did Continue Down the "Rabit Hole" The Past Few Hrs and Found Some Forums That Spoke of This..I Will Link 1 Such Forum at the Bottom, Comment #12 States That "There is No Transmission Filter for the AISN Transmission" the Ford 500 Had 2 Transmission Types...CVT (One Seen in This Video for the Freestyle) and the 6 Speed AISN. If You Infact Have the AISN You Do NOT Have a Filter That Ford Wants Changed. Only Drain and refill the Fluid. This is Not an Uncommon Occurence, Vehicle's w/ Permanent High Pressure Filters That Are Made NOT to be Serviced. If You Have Any Concerns Whether This Applies to You, You Can Always Call Your Local Ford Dealership Parts Dept, Based on Your Vin # They Can Tell You Definitively Which Transmission You Have and What if Any Filter You Need. They Can Even Tell You the Exact Type of Fluid and Quantity You Will Need for the Job! Hope That Helps and Happy Wrenching!! www.fordforum.com/forum/ford-five-hundred-67/five-hundred-trans-fluid-change-42620/

DO NOT ADD STOP SLIP TO A CVT !!!!!!!!!! Please do not listen to this guy regarding that and if you're going to listen to him then listen to the bottle of Lucas that says not for CVT there's a reason you don't want a stop slip application going into a continuously variable transmission. Think about it don't do it

The rest of your video is excellent though I must say. But definitely inform your viewers they will void the warranty and the manufacturer will find out because one of the first things they will do is test the fluid and they will know exactly what additives you have put in that are not recommended. Since they are trying to not have to pay out anything. They would rather run a very simple fluid balance test because they know if they ask you if you put anything else in you're going to say no
