READ DESCRIPTION - IMPORTANT INFORMATION
How To Change Transmission Fluid / Oil In Citroen DS5
The Aisin Tf-80 is used in a variety of vehicles, some of which are listed below. The method will be very similar if not identical.
Citroen: DS3, DS4, C4, C5, C6
Peugeot: 307, 308, 407, 408, 508, 607, 3008, 5008
Full List Of Other Brands At Bottom Of Description Box, they include Volvo, VW, Toyota, Mazda and others.
This is for the Aisin BVA AM6C type transmission. Please check which transmission you have. It may or may not be similar. The computer Diagbox steps shown in the video aren't a strict requirement, but they will ensure the best improvement in the gearbox after service.
Part Numbers:
O-Ring, PSA: 220945 , GM: 93183574
Crush Washer, PSA: 220923 , GM: 93183578
CAUTION : The oil type "AW-1" in AT6 and AM6 gearboxes with engine version Euro 5 is specific and cannot be replaced with oil type "JWS 3309".
Dry gearbox oil capacity : Approximately 7 litres.
Type of oil required (Red) :
EURO 5 engine : AW-1 oil
EURO 4 engine : JWS 3309 ESSO oil
Volume of oil remaining after draining : Approximately 4 litres.
Quantity of oil to be replaced : Approximately 3 litres.
5. To Check the oil level
Prior conditions :
Vehicle level
Check that the gearbox is not in downgrade mode
Remove the filler plug (3)
Add 0.5 additional litres of oil in the gearbox
Apply the brakes firmly and move the lever through the various selector positions
Gear lever in position "P"
Engine running at idle
Oil temperature 60°C (+ 8 ; - 2 °C) (Measurement of the parameters using diagnostic equipment)
Remove the oil level plug (2).
5.1. Stream of oil then reducing to a sequence of drips
Refit the oil level plug (2).
5.2. Sequence of drips or nothing
Refit the oil level plug (2).
Stop the engine.
Add 0.5 additional litres of oil in the gearbox.
Repeat the top-up procedure.
N.B. : The level of oil is correct when the stream of oil becomes drop by drop.
Refit the oil level plug (2) (equipped with a new seal).
5.3. Check the oil level (continued)
Refit :
The oil filler plug (3) (equipped with a new seal)
The protective panel under the engine
The air filter housing
Too high a fluid level can cause :
Overheating of the fluid
Fluid leaks
Too low a level causes destruction of the gearbox.

Excellent clear instructions. Internet is a minefield you have to pick your way through. 100 ways of doing every job but 99 are BS! Stumbled on yours after many blind alleys, most had even got the make of gearbox wrong. Had to remove the air box to luckily find the stickers which were still attached. Great job. Any more videos on Citroen C5 VTX plus 2007 2.2 diesel auto would be greatly appreciated!

This also applies to the Mazda CX-9. I changed mine at 75K miles and it looked like dirty motor oil and the transmission was shifting badly. I ran thru 12qts of Mobile One 3309 fluid and it shifts like new now.

I've filled mine from the breather cap and only later noticed after removing the actuator ECU there's a cap on top of the almost hidden transmission reservoir.. Any ideas if ive done damage ?

Thanks for video. I am planning to get my 308 t9 eat6 transmission oil changed but I am not sure if my mechanic has the equipment for the software adjustment. Do you have any idea what happens if the oil life meter not get resetted?

it does not do anything different than the old oil you drained at best. Harsh engagements persists. Be sure to reset the oil wear counter and do the pre-alignment process exactly like in this video. AC On, cycle through gears, drain excess oil, you're good to go.

Yes it is recommended. There are various transmissions that it might have so you will need to check which one it is and find the procedure.

@@user-wt7ug1ec9o I changed the oil basically there's a plug at the bottom of gearbox actually 2 of them one inside the other , undo those plugs and drainfluid into pan measure the amount of transmission fluid then either reinject that same amount of new fluid back into the transmission from the bottom with a "turkey baster oil suction device , or go uptop and find the bung up there , its probably hidden under the air cleaner .

It depends on the car make and model. It should be written on the transmission fill plug on top of the transmission or maybe in the owners handbook. It will be either AW-1 oil, or JWS 3309 ESSO oil. Be careful because you must not mix the oil types or put the wrong oil in.

It's hard to say as the difference between countries can be large, but I would guess that anything up to 400 euros is probably quite fair.

What do you mean sealed? No transmission should ever be sealed. There will be a way to drain and fill it, but the procedure may differ depending on what transmission you have.

@@HeroRepairs yes my transmission is sealed for life they tell you this at Citroen but my car is 9 years old and has done 130000 and the auto gears are taking a bit more time to change , you can check out the other videos where they tell you it’s sealed but that’s so you don’t touch it

@@jamesgarson1058 Those are just lies the manufacturers tell you so they can reduce service costs. They absolutely do need servicing. There's no such thing as a lifetime fluid.

I have a c4 picasso 1.6 hdi 88kw EAT6. Do I need a Diagbox diagnostic tool, i.e. can I use any that can show me the oil temperature? When new oil is put in, it is necessary to go through all stages: P, R, N, D and manual mode, is it necessary to change all 6 gears to manual, can I because my gearbox has 6 gears (EAT6)? I think this is not enough, the same thing should have been done at least 2 more times so that the percentage of new oil was around 87.5%, this way we only have 50% new oil, especially if it is about high mileage and the oil has never been changed. Any diagnostic tool that shows transmission oil temp will be fine, I just assume diagbox is what most Citroen/Peugeot owners have. Diagbox also lets you reset the oil degradation counter which is how the transmission adapts over time. Yes you must shift through P, R, N, D, and then manual shift as high as you can (I believe it will only let you got to 3rd). Remember to keep the brake applied so the wheels don't spin! Most people will opt to do this service once, then drive for 500-1,000km and repeat the service. After that point you start to get diminishing returns, and usually it's a bad idea to completely change all the oil at once. It should be fine from then on to just perform the service periodically, say every 30,000km?

@@HeroRepairs I don't have a Diagbox, and it's too expensive for me to go to a PSA service (which doesn't do oil changes), and it's hard for me to find someone who has a Diagbox. I will see with my repairman if his software can do that. How important is it to reset the counter, what if I don't reset it? My car has 175,000 km and the oil has never been changed, what should I do: should I change only 3 liters of oil (that is, only the oil that runs out) or replace the entire oil (that is, 3 times for 3 liters each), because I did not understand this part very well: "Most people will opt to do this service once, then drive for 500-1,000km and repeat the service. After that point you start to get diminishing returns, and usually it's a bad idea to completely change all the oil at once." If I understand correctly, if the entire oil is replaced, there may be a problem with the operation of the gearbox? I've also heard from some people that I don't change anything for now because I can only get problems instead of improvements? Tnx

@@NoName-ne6es You can buy a diagbox clone yourself from ebay or aliexpress. Or if you can find a different type of scan tool that reads transmission temp then that should work. It is preferable to reset the oil wear counter, but not essential. Especially if you only change 3 litres at a time and drive it between services then I don't think it'll be an issue as the gearbox will adapt itself somewhat. The only danger is flushing out too much of the old fluid in one go, but by doing it 3 litres at a time you very likely won't have any issues. This is because old fluid can have clutch fibres etc floating in it which gives it added friction, sometimes on older transmissions the clutch packs have degraded and new oil can be "slippery". But like I say, do 3 litres then drive it for 1000km or so, then change another 3 litres. That is the most efficient way to do it, and still retains a little bit of friction from the old oil just incase.

Hello friend, I have a 2017 C4 Picasso 1.6 HDi with a 88kW EAT6 gearbox, 185,000 km, and the oil didn't look bad at all. Today I changed the oil and about 2.5 liters leaked out of the gearbox, roughly estimated. Then I poured in new oil, and when I poured 2.3 liters, it started leaking at the oil gauge. I added another 0.2 liters and didn't pour anymore. Shouldn't this gearbox take 3 liters of oil? Should I have poured in 3 liters or not? And what could happen if I leave more oil in it? Tnx

Look at the fill plug, it should say what type to use.

Diagbox which is for Citroën. Other brands have their own program. Sometimes a good obd scan tool can reset transmission adaptations.

You must look at the fill cap to find the oil type, most likely AW-1. From memory a 4L bottle will be enough to comple this service.

I topped up in the breather cap after draining 3 lires off, then found the cap on the actuator reservoir later..It looked looked full in the actuator reservoir anyway...Not sure but I Dudbridge repressure it with diagbox
