Very thorough. Thanks! One suggestion -- I did this on my car just now, after watching your video. I removed the engine-cover first, then loosened the oil-filler cap, then loosened the oil-filter and pulled it out slightly, to allow the oil-filter to drain into the engine while I was removing the tray off the bottom of the car. By the time I was done draining the oil from the engine and replacing the drain-plug, the oil filter had pretty much emptied itself and only one tiny little drip came off of it as I was removing it.

LMacNeill i directly noticed what you noticed to. the sequence he did is simply wrong because the old oil in the oil filter wil go to the sump once you unscrew the oil filter housing. should do that before draining the oil or at the same time. i like to clean the oil filter housing inside with kitchen paper because there are area's where some old oil gets trapt. i think in totaal 100 ml more or less.

Good guide, I agree with LMacNeill though - loosen the Oil Filter before emptying the sump. Especially where old oil makes the DPF get to 45% full quicker (in my case every 3 days) with the BMN in a MK 5 125kw

As long as its VW507.00 which Ravenol VMP is. My local VW stocks Quantum and Castrol. Castrol used to blend Quantum's oil, now Fuchs have the contract. There is also a 0w30 VW507.00 for colder climates. Mann are OE filters supplier to the VW factories but Mahle and Hengst are also quality.

Great guide, except that I believe you should change the filter before draining the oil. Removing the filter allows oil retained oil to flow down into the sump.

Good job man! I do the same thing with my 2008 VW Rabit, whitch I'm gonna swap tomorrow FGW FOR a 2013 MKVI TDI: the Rabbit flies on the road, but it takes double what the tdi does (450-500 km range vs 900-1100 km for the TDI= Huge difference!

I've never heard of Ravenol oil but I'm picking up a car with the VAG 2.0 184PS diesel engine next weekend so I'll definitely be using it for servicing in the future 😎.

I've found Ravenol to be pretty common here in Europe. I've never heard of it while living in the US. It's a good brand here.

the oil pan screw is aluminum and what oil change should it be replaced?

Oil pan screw is steel with integrated washer - part VW-N90813202.

when installing filter cap turn by hand like you are removing it you will fell it fall into place then turn like you are tightening by hand will go all the way to o ring (clockwise) rightie tightey it will not cross thread

I've seen another video where the filter is removed from the under-side of the engine, towards the front. What is the difference? 2.0 v 1.6 perhaps.

Definitely not a 2.0TDI from my experience - easy to remove from the top; as others here have said, crack open the oil filter housing while the sump drain is off and the oil is draining!

The Mk7 GTD which is a 2.0tdi has the oil filter underneath the engine. Change of design I think.

Oil capacity of 2.0L TDI (CBBB engine) is 4.0L (4.2 quarts).

Capacity = 4.0L of oil (with oil filter change) and 3.7L (without oil filter change) - CBAA, CBAB, CBAC, CBBA and CBBB VW engine codes. Filling above the mark can cause damage to the catalytic converter!
