UPDATE:
I have released a new video on how to changeover from ascent to descent. I discuss a something that could have been done better in this one.
You can find it here:
• I MESSED UP!! The RIGH...
We are moving along nicely and starting to piece together the various techniques.
We learned how to climb up a rope using ascenders and descenders, we learned how to abseil down the rope with descenders and ascenders. Now it is time to combine the two and learn how to changeover from ascent to descend and how to changeover from descend to ascent.
Like and SUBSCRIBE. Turn on notifications to never miss a new upload!

Notice you cut the moment you had your hand jammer up too high and having to struggle to retrieve it.... Surely demonstrating having it either closer to the Croll/lower down the rope would be better or demonstrating that pulling some additional slack through, when moving onto your descender, would mean people following your lead, would not have to climb back up and retrieve their hand jammer. Just a thought

Thank you for paying attention and for being critical. The ascender was a bit high, yes. Was it hard to retrieve, no. In fact, it did not even register as being high😂. That was not the reason for cutting away. I cut away because I wanted to show stepping down into the descender twice. I did not think that stepping back up in the Croll was necessary to show at that point in the video, as the focus was on stepping out of the Croll. After the second step down, you can see that the hand ascender is at the right height. Looking back I could have pointed out that you'd want the hand ascender as low as possible before stepping out to avoid any potential issues. Again, thank you for pointing this out🙏🏼

Came here to say the same thing basically: nice video but when I switch between ascending and descending, I also pull out the slack in the Descender, so I don't go down that deep. It's a bit more comfortable and u keep the hight. Nevertheless, great video!

@@eikehelf1321 Thank you🙏🏼🙏🏼! I normally do exactly what you described. Somewhere in filming and trying to do things "efficient" I actually went less efficient on the important stuff.😂 I have just filmed a video reacting to @Tom Ridge and your comment. I explain what happened and show it in the proper, best practice way. The way you both describe. Hand ascender low and little slack between descender and chest ascender. Like I said to Tom, thank you for paying attention and taking the time to comment on the video. This is what I would like the channel to become. A place where we can all talk in a respectful manner on different methods.

@@TheRopeAccessChannel agree with all the above but also nothing wrong here, these things can happen and if anything it’s good to teach what can happen and how to get out , someone who is in training for lvl1 especially I would suggest to show what can go wrong in maneuver and so on… Best regards, Vertex.

@@miroslavherceg8579 Thank you for your comment. I have noticed that while teaching IRATA all this stuff happens "organic" because there is interactions with people. Now with filming everything myself some of those things don't happen and I need to plan ahead better. Because this does happen to most L1's (and trainers too apparently 😂😂😂) I will leave the video up. It is not necessarily unsafe. Just less efficient.👊🏻🙏🏼

I saw some comments about getting your hand ascender stuck too high. If you're new like me and make this mistake. Tie a alpine knot below you and use it as a foot loop to get some height and retrieve your hand ascender 😅. This trick saved me from embarrassment a couple times lol

Hello Mate, I've got my IRATA level 1 signed off few months ago, and about to start my first job on ropes in few weeks. Your videos are an awesome refresher as I don't have access to facilities to train. Practical refresher is booked for few days before I start the new job. Thanks for the videos and the answers to the comments. It must take a lot of your time !! cheers.

Absolutely great videos. I am a firefighter/rescue specialist in US. Rope rescue is high on our priority but in addition to EMS and fire we also deal with trench rescue, large animal rescue, confined space, structural collapse...you name it. It is so hard to train on it all. Your videos are an outstanding way to keep up with all the rope rescue/access techniques in a short timeframe. Keep it up! Much appreciated.

I am always impressed by the amount of training you have to do as a fireman and I totally understand that it is very hard to keep up to date with all the training !. Im glad these videos help out with staying up to date . If there is anything I can do , or anything you would like to see, dont hesitate to reach out.

Good~ I Imagined 3times of training IRATA..1 time for each level. Anyway, when I was ascending long range (usefully over 5meteres),used pentin for it. Pentin and croll are wonderful combination for ascending. But there is no using pentin for teaching in centers...hahaha
@TheRopeAccessChannel
@TheRopeAccessChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment. If you make enough hours, you can do each level 1 time. However, most of the time people take a bit longer to level up. A 1000 hours on ropes is a LOT. Pantin, or similar foot ascenders, maybe in combination with a HAAS ascender type thing, work great! But like you said, not applicable in a training center where I try to teach the basics. Those devices are more for advanced rope techs. Also I have never seen a company provide them haha.

Hola señor, I've a question how much of percent strength reduction after putting fig of 8 on rope.
@TheRopeAccessChannel
@TheRopeAccessChannel Жыл бұрын
That should be irrelevant to our rope access systems. Under normal working scenarios we should never see any force even close to the breaking strength of a rope with a knot. That said, every knot reduces the strength of a rope by about 50% of the MBS. Some a bit more, some a bit less. If we calculate from 50% we are always safe

I find this quite difficult when my chest-Ascender is mounted to far down. I then can’t get my decender beneath it and I’m somewhat stuck in a ascending position.
@TheRopeAccessChannel
@TheRopeAccessChannel 2 жыл бұрын
What harness are you using? On most harnesses the chest ascender is about a carabiner length away from the D-ring attachment point. It can’t be further down. Or am I missing something?
