Hey Nate, it’s Nate. Always great to see instructional videos that are well presented and to the point. But I have to say this is not the easy way lol. It’s a way alright, but the easiest… Put you’re multimeter on ohms (the little horseshoe looking one for those who might not know) and with the coil out put the red lead on the + metal pin in the coil and black on the - pin. No need for all those extra wires. Still great video my friend Nate.

So you have your primary winding then your secondary winding that also needs to be checked to verify if it’s in spec there’s a cold specification as well as a hot specification of the car was just running everything is warm to hot & all coils will have a different spec the need to be within so make sure you look up your vehicle/engines specification checking the primary winding like this with a meter is fine check the secondary by moving the positive to where the spark plug would go on a coil over plug system it where the plug wire goes….another way to do this is with a oscilloscope so you can visually see the wave produced but either way will work fine overall good video thanks for sharing

I have a 1995 lexus sc400. it looks like it has wires running to the spark plugs. It has been sitting for 4 years. So I drained the old gas and put 5 gallons of fresh new gas. My car is having a hard time starting. its cranks and cranks before it turns over. Sometimes it takes several tries. It started and ran perfectly fine for 30 minutes or so at normal operating temp. Shortly after, the temp gauge started to rise slightly and the car just shut off. Hard to start again, would crank but not start. do you know what it could be?

Ok . The end of the first test was unclear . Once you put the alligator clips on . What is the meter supposed to read if its good . Do I assume if its bad . It'll test at 0 ohm ??? Good point in the right direction but the end of the test is a little off

Maybe do a new video checking primary and secondary winding as they are both very important parts of each coil pack.

So for the first test it should be 1.8 Ohm or around that. But what is the second test about? How to detemine the plug is good or bad? 🤔

So, take the coil & plug out, put the spark plug back in the coil, take a multimeter & hook the positive to the spark plug and the negative to a ground and watch for a spark?

Hello, I'm a Nissan Tiida owner, and I'm encountering acceleration issues. I've replaced the spark plugs, air filters, transmission fluid, engine fluid, and the Fuel Assembly, but the problem persists. I haven't diagnosed the ignition coil yet, so I'm wondering if one of the coils might be faulty. For example, when I was in traffic with my foot on the brake, and I released the brake and pressed the gas, the car surged for a second and then settled. I noticed this tends to occur when the vehicle is cold. It mostly happens at low speeds. What could be causing this issue?

I like your videos don’t let the negative comments get you down bro! I am subscribing! Just a word on ohm coils… in some cases it doesn’t put it under enough stress and heat.. so in some cases the coil will 0HM fine and still misfire. So if you ohm And it still has a misfire after you put everything back together change the coils around and see if the misfire moves using a Scan Tool.

Why not ground the spark plug to the battery when testing the coil? I thought all ground led back to the battery.
@ophv19982 жыл бұрын
And how is it led back to the battery? Through the chassi, so why not use the chassi like everything els 😅
@grahammarshall6135 Жыл бұрын
because if there's a hydrogen gas leak from the battery, the spark could cause an explosion. Same reason why when jumping a car to start you set the ground up on the block or such, not the battery.

Bush booger your right thats a fast and effective way to check for spark but you know more than the average joe with experience
@eltoro7773 жыл бұрын
That's not any where near an accurate test of newer vehicle ignition s.. The coil on plug is a solid state system is reliant on SPECIFIC VOLTAGE ,ONCE AGAIN SPECIFIC VOLTAGE. By all means just jump the coil ou5 to ground..you'll get a spark. Of varing colors.. Btw do you know what a bright red yellow spark means? Or bright blue purple color what it means.. Any ways Wyatt Booger. Don't ever ground Cop coils .. Unless you want to buy new ones. If your not measure the spark on a scope. Your only verifying that you have spark. You can't tell the over all scope or tru ampmeter . to verify your meeting the systems voltage requirements..

Yes it is definitely a southeastern accent. I'm from Georgia, people that sound like this are considered "country". A lot of times they're some of the nicest people and will go out of their way to help someone. As a teen I met a few girls on the beach who had me spend about an hour saying different things because they had never heard the accent before.

1. Wear gloves 2. Unhook negative terminal 3. Creates spark, low voltage high
@frankgonzalez2411 ай бұрын
This is only for two pin coils. Testing most three and/or four pin connections like this will not work because of the transistor in the coil. If you were to use this method on most three and four pin coils it will make it look like the coil is bad when it's not.

All my coil overs failed intermittently. Ohms tests passed. Hand generated spark test passed. In the engine under load TOTAL CRAP OUT..!! Unplugging each one while engine idling helps sometimes. If no obvious drop in power or rough idling begins them that coil is doing nothing. Don't be a cheapass Charlie. Just replace them all. Your family's safety to get them out and back home again depends on you doing the job right...

(that was 9 minutes of my life i will never get back.. ).. my coil has 3 metal tabs.. you coulda explained more.. like what the tabs are.. did polarity matter.. and what readings are good and what is considered bad? resistance per winding.. and not all multimeters have a "horseshoe" symbol.. i think u meant "ohms".. what about multiple windings ?????? so many questions unanswered..
