Car maintenance is everything. I thought the engine is the most critical part of the car. However, the suspension needs to be taken care as well since it carries the load and overtime, you need to carry necessary maintenance. Having said that, I am extremely grateful to Chrisfix for providing a comprehensive car maintenance, inspection, and troubleshooting. I started watching your channel after my father's car overheats in the middle of the road. I was 15 years old back then and I found out my father did not went to change the oil until 60000km.

ChrisFix first off is like to say thank you for taking the time to make these videos for people like me who can’t afford all the expensive hourly shop rates. My question is I have a 1992 GMC Sierra k1500 with a 6 inch lift. I recently purchased it and was going to try and replace some of the suspension components but I’m not sure if I need ome parts or if due to the lift I will need to order parts designed for vehicles with lift kits?

As a lady who knows jack shit about vehicles, I’m irate because of so many shitty cockroach mechanics and shops that SAY they fix the issue(s), and things seem improved the first week or so, then all hell breaks loose and the problem is WORSE than before I took the car in. That really makes me wake up ready to implode. Why is it such a common thing to have such a high amount of crappy mechanics and auto shops?!? But damn if I’m not digressing. Whew I got carried away. I’m at a point in life where i want to learn to fix things myself. I want to be an INDEPENDENT WOMAN. Kisses to Beyoncé 😂😝🎤🎹🔥🙌 Thank you Chris I just found your videos today.

I think I'm getting out of my depth after learning so much on KZfaq regarding fixing my car... I noticed I have a perished boot and a knocking sound over bumps in the road - way outta my realm of knowledge, I barely know how the suspension on a car works. Then BAM, I pick up my phone and "HEY GUYS!" I'm doing my first brake job tomorrow on my car following your video (feel very confident) and while I'm there I'm going to reference this video to see what's going on in there, and maybe identify problems. Then down another rabbit hole I'll go. Chris, your videos are some of the best, simplest, easiest to follow to ever hit the internet. We owe you copious drinks for everything you've taught us.

to anyone learning use a pry bar . not a hellishly long one but one about a foot or two and pry pretty well on spots that were mentioned to look for play . I was told a while ago that if it moves with the little amount of torque you can supply , when the tier hits the ground and the vehicles ton of weight is on that point it will definitely be moving

If you had all new parts and were to replace every part you checked in this video (even the struts), in what order would you go? Basically all new suspension (for a 2006 Sonata) I would think you would start with struts and work down and outward? Strut/springs fork strut mount stabilizer link upper control arm ball joint knuckle cv axle sway bar lower control arm inner tie rod outer tie rod ball joint hub hub bearing dust shield rotor brake pads caliper Am I missing anything? Do parts come with all bushings, pins, nuts and washers? I have a 2006 Sonata shop manual set, but even that is geared more towards a trained mechanic and does not walk you through each step.

Someone else may have commented but you have to put the jack under the lower control arm to unload the spring before testing the ball joints. Being loaded you are unable to detect play.

Unless its a McPherson strut then you lift on the frame to unload the spring

@@151daze the jack stands should really be under the frame to ensure no weight restrictions when checking ball joints

The best suspension video I have watched all day. THANK YOU! Wish I would have found this BEFORE I put the car back together! I did try to wiggle the tire to watch for play and didn't see any but the boot on the lower ball joint is all but gone. The upper and the outer tie rod look like crap too so figure I'll just replace it all. I hear all sorts of rattling when I'm driving (when the road is rough) and it is pulling to one side. Don't know what else to do.

usaclc Glad the video was helpful! I have videos on replacing all of the parts too! See my suspension playlists! I bet it is tie rods and sway bar end links causing your noise.

ChrisFix just watched a bunch of them. Feel like I cheated on you (had to see wishbone lower control arm). So my new arms, upper and lower, arrived - waiting on tie rods. Went through most of the bolts to get things loose so when I have time to swap parts it will go faster. I was going to remove the tie rods but the nut is turning but not coming off the bolt. Frustrating. After a full day at work sanding I didn't have patience for it. I'll pay you $200 to come over this weekend and finish the job. (snicker)

Hey Chris! Big fan here! I have a 2003 corolla and whenever I turn the wheel left or right at slow speed, there is a squeaking sound. No leaks found so far
