At 1.01 you mention 'accidental opening'. It should be clearly pointed out that snap shackles should NOT be used for holding people. These shackles have a history of failure i.e. pins, springs. And further the lanyards can become entangled and know to accidentally open. Use a double locking latch for any human lifting and securing i.e. attach to life lines, bosom chairs, etc.

I've read were "safe working load depends on orientation of the shackle under load." How do I know if I have the correct orientation? Also, which of these would I want to use to secure a Hobie 16 main sheet? thanks!

They are extremely expensive they should not Accidentally open !!
