Today I will show you how to choose the correct vacuum chamber for stabilizing wood. Wood stabilization is an awesome process but the correct equipment is a must. I will show you the difference in vacuum chambers, so you will know which ones to purchase.

Good video. I’ve been doing smaller pieces and like the idea of doing a big piece and cleaning only once, am going to try that. I’ll add one thing based on experience; make absolutely sure the lid is centered before pulling a vacuum. This is a no-kidding safety issue. If it’s off-center, you can get to vacuum and have the lid sucked into the chamber catastrophically. I wasn’t hurt when this happened to me, but I could have been and my chamber was destroyed.
@JakeThompson

Thanks Mark .. cleaning one time is definitely more time friendly than doing lots of smaller pieces. I make sure EVERY TIME the lid is centered.

Another good reason to stabilise bigger pieces is that the wood often warps during drying and after curing the resin. So having a larger blank means you have more room to square sides and ends before cutting your final blank dimensions.

Hello love you videos. My name is Jeff Martin. I have been kicking around some ideas about wood stablizing with heat curing epoxy. I have only seen this done with very small pieces of wood. Like pen blanks and knife handles. It does get a little expensive to stablize. I do have a vacuum vessel that accommodate very large pieces. Stabilized you can use more punky woods and push the envelope. Do you think people would pay for something like this? Thanks
@JakeThompson

This already exists.. I stabilize large pieces often. Here’s a video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qdl1pdOEzaeZaGg.html

So what you are telling me is if I wanted to woodturn a nice log with resin to stay away from the glass vacs and there isn't a chamber that does both?
@JakeThompson

If you stabilize the wood, use a vacuum chamber with a glass lid is what I’m telling you

Another question for you Jake: When you do multiple large pieces in the vacuum chamber, do you put spacers between layers or between the bottom and the first layer to make sure that Cactus Juice has access to as much surface area as possible and also so the air releases from the lower layers? ... or am I overthinking this?
@JakeThompson
