In the movie Angel Heart, through out they showed open elevators that go down and old fashioned ceiling fans that creak. It wasn't until the end of the movie until we know what those images really indicative of. A huge Mickey Rourke fan, by far this was his best performance. Outshining Robert DenIro, although I'm sure not intended but even DenIro had to step back in awe. Mickey carried the entire movie., with my favorite meme. "I know who I am". Ya know what, I believe you Mickey

One of my all time favorites came on Pluto tv tonight, Father Goose, and I realized how much my feelings for that movie reflect what you were saying about the feel of the movies and the look of them. I adore that movie for other reasons as well but I also adore outdoor living greenery in wild states in real life. Green is my favorite color. And my favorite versions of green are living greenery where there are several natural shades all blending together. I love gardening, often the less manicured and more wild the better. I am quite prone to choosing/appreciating color saturation. I like wood tones, both natural and nicely stained. So picturing Leslie Caron in her bright coral men's shirt with the tropical foliage and wood all around her really shouts out to me that your principle rings true! (admittedly the shade and depth of color of that shirt has been different from time to time with different color quality of viewing experiences). In any case, Beyond a doubt window scenes with great natural views as part of my daytime room beyond would be wonderful for me. Beyond a doubt green has to be in my decorating. These are both things I have known for a long time, but it is still helpful to see that from this new angle.

The remake of the parent trap living room in blue made that room something I could see in my own home. Before it was too intense. Loved it blue! And the fact you know who Lynette Jennings is scored major points for you in my eyes and in my heart. I was addicted to her shows when I was younger.

She was the person that inspired me to go back to school and get a degree in architecture. She actually taught principles. I learned so much from her. I've tried to contact her over the years and have thanked her, but have never heard back. I bet she Inspired a lot of people.

P.S. I have a funny story about Lynette Jennings show, Homeworks. I, like you, was addicted to her shows. At the time my daughter was in kindergarten. One day the teacher filled out papers for the kids as a Mother's day gift, where they answered questions about their moms. When she asked my daughter what I do for fun. She replied,"Watch Homeworks." The teacher misunderstood and thought she said that I like to watch her do her homework for fun. Haha. Made me look like a good mom though 😉

Exactly. It was not just "do this". It was why do it and why it worked. I'll never forget how she taught us to make our beds so they looked like the ones in the fancy department stores. I still do it the same way to this day. She was wonderful. Thank you for your wonderful videos, I love to watch classic movies and I always take notice of the details and as you say it moves me and makes me feel so grateful to be able to learn from those magnificent art directors of those eras. I love the decor from The age of innocence, The roman spring of Mrs Stone, How to marry a millionaire, Queen Martha and so many others.

Sorry, but I cannot see anything from the stupendous movie Gone With The Wind, without remembering the Carol Burnett parody of the velvet draperies with the rod still present, made into the gown. So funny!

I have watched every episode of Home Town with Ben and Erin. They are always able to 'get' the home owner exactly in the design colors and style. I learned that she asks a series of questions of each family at the beginning of the process, and one of the questions is "what is your favorite movie". I wonder if she uses this technique to get the colors just so in the homes she designs?

That would be fun to see. These each take me between 100 and 150 hours to complete, so as much as I'd love to, there just isn't time. Maybe if I figure out how to clone myself someday. 😊 Recently I did do the home i grew up in and gave it as a gift to my parents and siblings. My parents moved out in 1980. I kept everything inside as it was in the 70s. It was a fun, nostalgic trip. I had wanted to do it for years and was glad I finally took a month off to do it.

Wonderful video and I intend to watch your entire series on Cinematically Inspired Design. However, I must make one comment. I am a HUGE fan of "It Takes A Thief" and have watched the movie on many different screens. My current TV is a top of the line Sony with super accurate colors and I have the restored BluRay. The scenes in the restaurant office (here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pJlkiNCLudSXk3U.html) do not have black wood trim, it is a dark brown wood (probably mahogany) with gold trim on the doors. Just thought I would mention that as it's kind of critical to your design going forward. Thanks again for your hard work on these videos! I found you through your "Leave It To Beaver" walk throughs. I LOVE Ward's office. I finally have a wood panelled den of my own!!!

It's not so much about having a favorite movie. It's discovering the different things that reliably create a mood for you. Things that you love. It's just that we can learn so much from the cinema and the way they approach design, because they are the masters at using design to create a mood and tell the story of the people who live there. I think if you watch this 3 part series I did about how to create your own storyboard and use it to design a room, it will help you understand the full concept. Let me know if you have questions. I get it, but I can never decide either. I basically can't remodel anyway, no funds. Also, someday I will live in my homestead. (I own half) my sister lives there right now. The only colors I'm set on is for a kitchen. It is that deep Red, fire engine red. Absolutely NO hint of yellow or orange in it. White and Forest Green. I also picture dark brown wood in there (I don't have the dark wood, but do have the rest in my present kitchen.
