Tharbamar, you knocked it out of the park! Excellent advice, plain and simple. One of my favorite speakers is the Sony SCSS5, and I'm willing to bet that in a blind test, it would hold it's own with the three excellent speakers in your video. For the price, they are amazing. Anyway, keep up the good work!

I have to agree. I actually tried the LS50 with a 10 watt class A amp but which had a considerable power supply. Clearly it didnt go very loud but it was loud enough for normal listening. Normally I just use a NAD 326BEE which is a really cheap amp but also has a great power supply built in. My oldest son commented when we were listening that the saxophone seemed to be in the room. Great sound for the money.

I have Elac debut B6 2.0 and LS50. If you aren't totally happy with the Elacs, the LS50 will likely satisfy you. I liked the Elac but was never completely happy with them. The LS50 don't blow the Elacs away, they add just enough. I actually love them and they are the lowest cost component of my system. If you shop around, you can find these at a low price brand new. I paid 899 Cdn in May/2019 which is an awesome deal.

I think 2 grand is the limit to what you are going to hear as far as sound quality for most people. Anything above that price range is subjective because of your room. The next level would be between 2-5 grand. Then your looking at quality of parts, crossovers, box design, what the box is made out of and equipment.

I have the Bowers and Wilkins 606. He's right, they are the ticket when you consider price vs performance. I auditioned the following speakers before arriving at the 606's: Wharfdale Diamond 11 Whardale Diamond 225 Martion Logan Motion 15 (Great speakers. Actually kept these thinking I was done, but later decided the 5.25" midrange could not fill the room at higher volumes) Klipsch RP600M Bowers and Wilkins 706 S2 (I was not super impressed with these given the $2k price tag. They were an open box item so I may have had a dud pair). All were powered by a Cambridge Audio CXA80.

With the KEF's Uni-Q driver, the center tweeter area doesn't move and therefore doesn't contribute to bass response. Do you find that the other two speakers, which have dedicated woofers, have better bass (although the imaging may not be quite as good as the KEF's)?

There is a huge difference in hearing of all people... in my teen years I drove a car with no A/C.... wind from the highway actually reduced my high frequency of my left ear dramatically. I don't notice it so much ... but when I go for a hearing test.. the older I get the more different my hearing changes within different frequency bands... Even my perception of sound location has changed! Also... the actual ear shape itself has an affect on hearing... and everyone's ear shapes are different. It comes down to what YOU PERCEIVE is good.... screw the reviews, the price, even your friends... get what makes you happy... Reminds me of the guys who use to brag how much they could drink before getting drunk... (that would be me!), When a best friend could drink 3 beers and could not nearly walk... Sometimes you have to figure out what the speaker is doing and then you might find out that you really like them. But there are bad sounding speakers out there that are barely listenable. A good speaker from a good speaker company certainly will have something about it that is pleasing in sound. It maybe lacking a bit in some areas but still sound descent.
@Tharbamar

In modern day manufacturing capability and know how there is no terribly bad speaker in general. I’ve heard tons of speakers from $50 pair to $250k and all of them serves their purpose well, only and all it is comes down to personal taste and budget. As you may know already no such thing as perfect sounding speaker nor perfectly suited speaker for everyone tastes. To each of own.

I would like to ask a question. It's kinda opposite to what I've just watched, but since I live in Serbia there are not so many options here. So I was thinking about those speakers 1)Dali Rubicon 2 (about 1400€ for a pair), 2) Bowers&Wilkins 606(not sure about price here) 3)Focal Aria 906 ( about 1000€ for a pair) 4) KEF LS 50 (around 900€ for a pair) I'm listening to House, Techno, Rock, Blues...Don't like too bright sound, but like clarity and detail. Like precise bass and not a fan of the subwoofer (I've only heard those on "home theater system" and pretty much hate it. Thanks in advance! :)

Hello, after hearing your comparison between PSB P5 and B&W 607, I liked the last ones better. In my country then the B&W cost like the PSB and so with just over 550 euros I preferred to buy the B&W 606. Wow! That's exactly what I was looking for, even when combined with a simple Onkyo 9010 they sound really good to me. Very good dynamic and balance sound, well defined and crystalline highs, excellent mid and very present bass but always controlled and never intrusive. Before I had Wharfedale 225, good speaker but I wasn't satisfied with high, mid and not so dynamic. The B&W 606 for me are absolutely another planet, they always sound very good with any musical genre I have tried (jazz, rock, electro, pop, classical, etc.) Also with movie they are awesome. 5 stars! Thank you Tharbamar for you reviews and thank you for letting me know these fantastic B&W models at an affordable price.

Buddy, 30-35% is HUGE with monitors! ANd as you get more advanced you approach the point of diminishing returns, but for a pro it's worth it. That 2-3% improvement can cost over 100% more at that level and it's worth it if it gives you a slight advantage over your competition. Is this for home listining or for ecording? Monitors are not for listening at home unless you want to hear every imperfection in the music.

If my fronts are 805d3 and center is HTM2D3, would the 607 be good enough for my surrounds? The problem is the place i would put them in is quite tight and the depth size of the 707 is much deeper than the smaller 607 but the question is, can the 607 keep up with my other speakers? Monitors are designed for professional use. They will be on the end of professional amplifiers. They will have a tailored response and be able to reveal important details about recordings or microphone feeds. Small bookshelf speakers are tuned for giving a balanced effect in an attractive package that can work with most music. The speakers are then a matter of compatibility with the system and the choice of music. Once you get to PMC, Harbeth, and ATC there are fewer compromises and the speakers are tools. The speakers you showed are not really monitor grade.

Hi Tharbamar, First time posting but have been following for some time. I like your ''regular guy'' reviews and the fact that all you sound demos are mostly made with the same ancillaries and same material. Contrary to those who think KZfaq demos are irrelevant I find I can get some kind of idea when all variables are things are consistently equal. I need to get those LS50s in house for a demo, maybe I didn't give them a fair chance (preconceived opinions about Kef I suppose). Your diminishing returns opinion is interesting regarding speakers over $1500. In my experience it usually boils down to similar in most respects except for more/less refinement usually in the treble (where I'm most sensitive). As the content creator stated, the “ sensitivity “ (synergy) of the speaker is critical. If you have a low or average watt amp, you need to go for high sensitivity speakers. Contrarily, if your amp has muscle, you can go for low sensitivity speakers, which “ subjectively “ sound “ better “ 🤪 Also, with most modern (money) amps, you can tune your speakers to your room & liking.
