Remember there are side mounted cable droppers so you never have to use a no-cable dropper if don't want to. Side mounted, as long as the housing fits into the top tube, can be used with any bike no matter how old. Two popular side-mounted types are PNW and Trans-X.

I got lucky on my Vitus, I was running a 125mm dropper and must of measured 10 times before buying a 170mm.. The dropper collar sits on the seat clamp and gives me the perfect pedal stroke(Vitus size Large/ 185cm tall/ 32inch inside leg) Happy days! ..Great video guys.

PSA: There are externally routed droppers that actuate from the collar as opposed to the top of the seat clamp. The advantage on these is there is no cable movement needed when dropping. I have the PNW.

Nice video, it is super tricky figuring out how big a dropper you can run. Stack height, insertion depth, total length, drop length all need to be accurately measured. I'm a big fan of the one up dropper, shortest stack height on the market and every post can be shimmed down by 20mm in 10mm increments.

@@aponinenaugcasio8456 I’m running a Thompson Dropper right now. I liked the fact I can put a under seat dropper paddle on it to drop the post instead of the bar mounted lever, let’s me swap it from bike to bike easily.
@ish474
@ish474 2 жыл бұрын
There are set screw Style ferrules that can help you if your lever and dropper both require a ferrule on the cable. Also worth mentioning depending on the cable routing your max insertion might be determined by the bend in the cable. My Stumpjumper post will physically go much deeper than the cable will allow it to.

I’ve got a 1992 Kona Lava Dome with a 26.4mm seat tube. Can I get away with a sand/lathe of a 27.2mm dropper post to make it fit or is there another solution? (And why won’t manufacturers just make ones smaller than 27.2?!)

I'm about to add a 180mm v2 to my Ragley Big AL. I am 5'11" with a 31" inseam(I have that gorilla torso lol) My 88.5 cm seat height will land the 180 perfectly flush by all my calculations. I wish the US would just go metric like the rest of the world, screw the fraction BS. But yeah the low stack height of these newer droppers make it possible for me to go 180mm flush and be within 3mm of my pedal to seat height measurement. I have a 100mm DNM old school external cable on it now and it is crazy how much they have upped the game since then. It will return to my old bike soon.

An emtb motor may limit dropper insertion. You may not see this limit from the outside. Insertion depth may also be limited by the minimum bend radius of the internally routed cable. All that said, a Oneup 150 mm dropper fit in my size small 2019 Turbo Levo carbon. Spesh said the max was 125.

I got a one Up 210 dropper in Specialized Enduro. The problem by fully or even nearly put the dropper in to the clamp. The Seatpost clamp seams to clamp the bushing in the dropper and ist doesnt work to come out. If i try to losen the seatpost clamp Till ist works fine, the post itself moves into tge frame.. has anyone ideas or any fix for this issue? Sry or my english. Thanks

A lot of frames don't necessarily accomodate the full drop posts, since the post is quite long! you do have to do a bit of measuring etc

My friend put this bike together for his son and before I knew it he was done kzfaq.infoUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L When the son came to put it together he was surprised to see it was already done. All he had to do was take the bike to get air and be on his way. My friend did not have any major problems putting this bike together; small issue was putting one of the brakes on straight; however when the son got home he was able to fix it. The bike rides well gears move correctly; good bike for the price. Wrote review after the son took the bike. Sorry.

Describing picking a dropper post as a minefield is a huge stretch. There’s a couple of measurements you need and that’s it. Easy peesy. Numbers are clear as day not a minefield 🤦‍♂️
@sonobitches
@sonobitches Жыл бұрын
The way you calculate the travel length seems both convoluted and potentially inaccurate. Just set a regular seat post to the desired extended length and measure from the seat collar to the center of the seat rails. That usually corresponds to a length on the size chart (crankbrothers calls it minimum extended length for example). And you kinda just completely ignored externally routed dropper posts for frames that don't have internal routing even though you literally showed an older one later in the video.
