Instructor Mike shows you the importance of having a firearm holster for duty that will put up as much of a fight as you would in maintaining retention of that firearm. A must-watch for persons required to carry exposed firearms.

Been there and done that! Nearly 30 years in LE and had to, one example, fight a man on PCP, while his wife was trying to pull my gun out of my holster. The holster held up well and I had no problem when she got knocked out by me!

As an armed security guard, I appreciate the knowledge. But have you heard of cases where officers couldn't access their firearm because they couldn't disengage the retention on the holster? For example, the motion type, where you have to twist or rock the firearm to draw; are these safe options?

There’s been a high percentage of failure related to this , with the Blackhawk serpa holster. Too many people buy this one as their first holster since it’s affordable, but you should only use it till you can buy a better one like a safariland holster. Even if it’s used. I’ve been doing this for 20 years so I’ve used a lot of gear and learned a lot over the years. Especially when doing 15-18 hour shifts and how low quality gear can affect the body

@@MobWithGuns I appreciate the replies. I've heard through the years that: 1. "Too much retention and it's easy to fail getting your gun out under stress." 2. "Too little retention, and it's easy to have someone disarm your weapon." But what I've learned is: 1. Train, with any holster, of any level of retention. 2. Situational awareness and training.

I have a Bianchi Accumold Elite Leve 2 holster for my Glock 22. I love it. One of my RTOs tried disarming me and had no clue how to. He wasn't familiar about the deep inside trigger lever-lock. Only thing is on draw races I never get first because the snap on the holster is so damn hard to break. Nevertheless, I trust this holster with my life. Academy starts this Saturday, 06/04/22, 07:45. Hopefully I'll graduate. God willing🙏

@@madspy2462 I was part of class 28 in Yuba Police Academy, California. I washed out because I missed ONE question on the Search-And-Seizure (vehicle pullovers) scenario of the academy exit exam. Just a 6 sentence paragraph. I was an outstanding cadet, ranked number 2. However, I've always struggled with anything academic and this includes test taking. I have ADHD and was taken off of my medication (Methylphenidate). Not blaming my failure on this. However, very tough at times, exhausting. Yet, I had lots of fun and I'm blessed to have many skills I learned when I was in there. A lot of the LD's incorporated some kind of psychology, like social worker material. I suppose now a days with everything going on P.O.S.T. wants officers and deputies to be more mental instead of physical. It's not the early 1990's anymore. Nevertheless, it went by and the bonds I made with the fellow cadets became family. We still keep in touch to this day. Class 28 graduated May 2023

The blackhawk ones i think it is due to a lack of training because you have to press hard on the locking tab which happens to be near the trigger when you draw. Which is why "accidents" happen. Lmao

Good video. Great holster. I know it’s only a demonstration but if I’m in a setting like that or any and placing a subject in restraints in the kneeling or prone position. I’m waiting for back up to arrive. In a setting like that, I would move the subject sideways, if it were a standing position, to have a better view to have a few seconds to react to a situation like that. PS, that’s why you carry your OC on the opposite side and a pocket knife on your opposite side and clipped in your pocket. Either or is justifiable and reasonable use of force since your life and other lives are being threatened and the subject is over powering you and attempting to take a deadly weapon off your person. Clearly with the ill intentions to cause death or even serious bodily injury. So something else to think of and consider.
@slsk9

What is this backup you speak of? In my county I could be 20 minutes plus for backup to arrive. Also most rural areas have dead zones on the P25 radio system and no cell service. Trooper’s and deputies have to be prepared to handle any situation alone.

I wish holsters with this much retention were as plug and play and the glocks people use them for. so much more innovation in accessories and reinventing the polymer framed platform itself which isn't saying a whole lot since covid. But the likely hood of being able to buy a holster like this for my particular set up seems like nil. Ive heard so many civilians and fuds and pros alike say you just have to buy a bunch of holsters you hate until you find one you kinda like... let along with optic cuts, lights, slide cuts yada yada. Safari Land isn't exactly a brand civilians can afford to apply that method too, granted that's not really their target demo but still.

Only issue is holsters aren't secure as they seem. The recent Ohio deal the cop had a level 3 with hood. Luckily he survived point blank. The mindset is keeping hands free to fight someone its secure is bogus. The suspect successfully got around the guard, depressed the hood then from front got through last level and removed the side arm. In any aspect these aren't designed to be hands free the hood guard is meant to be pressed down by you to prevent access in increments or fully while depressing emergency button and or getting distance to fire. But being in a political correct era everyone feels it is wrong if a officer gains distance after a attack like above and removed gun and fires killing suspect who is trying to do that to a officer. Common sense should be you try to remove it should be automatic no surprise and justified for a officer of any sorts to use his sidearm as the suspect isn't going to get it and say just kidding and give it back.
