In this video I try to explain why Virtual Reality is so immersive how it works and why is much more immersive then triple monitors setup for online racing and gaming in general !
Also how to find which is the best for you individually and what are the main differences in those two choices to take the maximum from each option !

I can't do flatscreen racing anymore. VR is truly incredible. The main thing for me is being able to judge distances and speeds so much better. First few times I was wondering how I was getting so lucky dodging T1 crashes, then it hit me it wasn't luck, I was just able to react quicker because my brain was able to sense direction changes so much more easily.

VR is good, but motion sickness will always hold it back. I still get motion sickness after 3 years of using VR headsets. It has not gone away for me.

@@dtz1000 Damn. Could it be your settings? I know I can't do VR in AMS2 for too long on tracks with elevation changes (Oulton Park for example) because of the way it moves the horizon. I wish there was a way to fix it in place, but it makes me sick. AC doesn't have this issue and I can go for hours.

100% agreed... Tried trippel screen setup, but its no where near the level of immersion you get from good VR headsets and finetuned settings in the game! Im using the G2 headset and its incredible! And now with the release of Varjo Aero and the Pimax Crystal the future looks good!

VR is definitely the future of simracing and gaming in general, we just happen to be at its early stage. But the VR technology will improve just like the GPUs have which present us photorealistic graphics, which many deemed impossible in the past.

I plan to upgrade soon, but so far I'm very satisfied with the Quest 2 and 3060ti. I don't really care about graphics and stuff. Having the depth of field and be able to move the parallax is enough for me to choose it instead of any triples with 240fps and ultra high settings.

sadly enough, technology is there, but the game-engine/applications can't follow. current applications used are simply too taxing for any civilian used PC configuration or you need to go full industrial/military maybe .... open up a budget than 🙂

Now i have spend more than 7000 hours in VR and wan't miss it! I sold my real racingkart and bought a Motion Rig. In combination with the Reverb G2 and a Powerfull 3090 it feels so close to real race driving.

I was swearing by VR for a year and a half now. It made me feel the car better than before. It made me understand my mistakes. It made me feel what the car feels. That said, I just got a triple setup going... and im loving it. The sheer comfort. I am in no need of taking brakes when driving (and not nausea, just the warmth, the thing on your head, the sweat, the slight discomfort...) Even alt-tabbing is a problem in VR. On triples, everything is easy. When properly set up, the triples are just amazing as well. It took me almost no time to get my head around them and get on the same level where I was with VR. VR helped me understand the car, made me faster, but on triples, i feel a lot more comfortable, and with the knowledge i got from the VR, i can push further.

I also just made the change from 8 months of iRacing to VR to triples a couple days ago. Somehow managed to beat some of my personal best times I got on VR with the triples already, and other than it being far more comfortable I am really blown away by the extremely wide field of view. Can actually see where all the cars are around me on triples, whereas in VR you can't see to your sides without moving your entire head to look to the side. Makes me more confident to drive in traffic without the tunnel vision VR gives. I was using VR based on it being the end game solution it seems most seem to rave about, but seems it has too many drawbacks. I find myself quite a bit more immersed with the triple monitors also, due to actually being able to enjoy the crystal clear scenery and not having something putting weight on my face and yanking on facial hair.

I cannot stress enough, how important your suggestion on taking an immediate break is, when you start feeling VR sickness. Having handled VR Flightsims very well initially (apart from flat spinning), I was totally overwhelmed by trying VR FPS games. I tried to "push through" and was a wreck for several days, needing way more sleep than my work and family schedule could offer. I race in VR almost daily now, and have regular IL2 or DCS flying sessions, but I cannot convince myself to ever start a VR FPS game again now. Thank you for your awesome content, and the detailed explanations on each topic you touch.

Such a high quality content, well done! Luckily I dont sweat at all so thats no deal for me. I also dont feel the lag. Maybe I got so used to it. And my rig looks pretty simple, just a OSW and a DIY shifter. So VR all the way for me. One downside for me is that VR glasses have a small sweet spot. So you really have to turn your head to read stuff like lap times etc. I cant forget my first VR experience couple years ago with the Oculus CV1 in iRacing. First track, Laguna Seca. The corkscrew felt so mindblowing. But if I had your rig, I would also go tripple because everything looks so beautiful.

My setup is all about VR, although I have a monitor on an arm to swivel for titles that are not VR compatible. I love being fully immersed, and forget about everything else, but I absolutely see the case and need for triples. I don't have too much time on my hands, having 2 little kids, so I don't need it for long periods of time, which works well for any discomforts it may bring. Lately, since updated UI, my favorite has been RFactor2, which is less demanding on VR than ACC. Hope next year the new batch of graphics cards will actually be available so I can upgrade to get all the eye candy! Thank you so much for the amazing content you provide!

1. your content is absolutely mind blowing and as someone who makes video content I have to say you're one of the ones who inspire me. Everything from lighting, to shot angles, movements, edit, colors, and audio is absolute perfection. Thank you for sharing your skills and talents. I agree with everything you said in the video 2. I use mainly VR (Rift S) for my casual sim racing and I gotta say the realism is just pure jaw drop, every single time, every single lap, even now after 2 years it still feels absolutely mind blowing. However it took me around 4 weeks to be able to go around the track at full speed without feeling nauseous, so that was a slow start for me lol 3. I also have a SUW 49 which I tried, used, and LOVED it, so I can imagine how triples like yours would look like. But the sense of immersion and BEING in the actual car is quite a different experience IMO and still nothing beats it. Having said that, if I were to race daily on a usual basis and anything more than a few hours per day I would definitely not recommend VR. The strain on the eye is obvious after long sessions with red-eyes, minor head aches, and eye pain. Keep at it and happy racing ...p.s I am stil waiting for the next gen 3D TVs promised years ago where you no longer need glasses, imagine that for sim racing with triplets wwoww 🤣🤣

You are my Sim-Racing-Guru. You are really an inspirational guy and your Vids are amazing - Thank you really much. After first time use a VR-Headset in a Simracing game I was completely fall in love with this combination. Even with a Joystick the immersion was fantastic. Since this experience I am investing in Simracing a lot of time (and Money) and i love it :). I am still a slug on track but its a lot of fun to drive in a AC-League with others. For me because of no space for triples no way to come away from VR. I have tried it with a single 32" curved, but the immersion of VR is soooo much better. Only the visual quality is a little bit a "fun-breaker" for me. I am now waiting to get a alpha mini with gt4 wheel and than I am f....g happy with my setup (for now ;)).

This is actually one of the things I have been really torn on. An oculus quest and link cable right now, just to give VR on the PC a shot, isn't that expensive. I'd be able to give it a go and see how I like the immersive experience. I've run triple screens before and love it, but I always had complaints about how narrow the view was vertically. I'll keep this video in mind when I do decide to take the plunge and try out both setups again. I just got myself a cockpit and direct drive wheel, so this is probably the best time to figure out which I prefer more.

thank you for your insight, i'm a beginner slowly building up a humble sim setup. been using my quest 2 for most of my racing because it was the best option i have right now to get a decent race going (my only gaming monitor is a small 24" monitor) and for the most part i do quite like the quest 2 for VR experience, althoug now with more time spending racing, I'm starting to really struggle with certain aspects of VR (or at least the quest 2) namely comfort of wearing, actual graphics (the quest 2 graphics are really bad compared to a screen), and seclusion from the outside world. been really considering making the plunge to a triple monitor setup instead of investing in a better VR headset. but wasn't sure if it would be worth it or if i would end up disappointed with the end result. but seems like most people share the same conclusion that triple has many advantages over VR except for the total immersion. great content and what an amazing setup!

Great informative Video!Keep the good staff. About the input lag you are talking about in VR ,you can apply offset = no lag.If you dont have motion , you do relay to drive from what the ffb tells you + picture - in the end you need that sens to be oversaturated ! to fill that empty feeling of not feeling g-forces or some movements of the chassis(because in the end your steering input is couzed of what body is telling to your brain where the chassis is moving). If you get a blind men they have increased hearing abilities due to the fact that they cant see.the same is in sim-racing with oversaturated DDs torque(you compensate due to lack of body feeling). Beside that frames goes with the ffb , so in tripples you can go higher fps=more ffb per frames but if the game engine like Iracing sends 60hz (you get 60fps=60 frames with ffb) ,ofc you can you use irFFB to multiplied.About the resolutions of VR that all ppl are talking . Think about something ,before 20 years the TVs availble on the market was with less resolution then the actual Vrs , and we didnt find them pixalated , thats because the pucture sent to them was equal or less to the resolution that they can project- even if they pushed above it was slitly.I have this conclusion after testing by reducing track/car resolution with Oclus CV1.Thas my 50cents - happy driving

A big advantage that people forget with vr is that you can move your head. That means that you can move your head sideways to look around the a-pillar or the halo in an open-wheeler. That makes a big difference to triples in my opinion

Holy shit !!!!! When I suggested you do a video like this on your last video I had no idea what a mind like yours might create. Without doubt the best, most intelligent and reasoned exploration or VR vs triples I have ever seen. Informative, intelligent and able to relate to what people want / need / dream about. KUDOS!! You managed to sum up and actually address all of the things that I had wrestled with in choosing which direction to go. Personally I have gone with a scary ' all in ' investment on enhancing my rig with a full VR with an Aero. You describe exactly why perfectly! The nightmare is you also tease the idea of what it would be like to experience the immersive real world environment you have created… For a while that will have to wait as the detail you have created is immense. The most comfy headset so far for me is the pico 4, high res, has a built in fan and don’t sweat, combined with yaw2 motion rig, motion plus vr should be the end goal for any sim racer. Going up the mountain in Bathurst feels so real because of the yaw2 has the most degrees of pitch and roll for its price point. Going almost sideways on a banked turn is surreal. Now I just need a wind kit and bass shakers to complete.

What is with these yaw2 stans? That kickstarter has been a massive cluster F and most people havent even got their device. How did you get one and why do you seem oblivious to these issues? And no you don't go "almost sideways", your whole comment reeks of BS.

The Varjo is a beautiful headset but it has a very huge flaw, it lacks any form of motion smoothing. For a headset with such resolution and clarity motion smoothing is a almost a necessity to have a fluid experience. Maybe for flight sims you can also do without as you deal with gentler movements, but for sim racing I doubt even the most experienced of users can run a full race without feeling sick or having problems with input lag because of such a lack.

@@lavir74 I have found Varjo to be allot smoother than my G2, even when not locked at 90 it’s still considerably smoother than any other headset I’ve tried, there is no motion smoothing at the moment but don’t no if it’s just the clarity than makes it feel so smooth below 90fps

Motion smoothing would only be useful if you can't reach the target fps of your headset natively. A beefy gpu can run 90+ fps in vr without motion smoothing, do the aero would be completely fine without it.

VR all the way. I don’t quite get the latency you describe and I am way quicker in VR than on screens. I’m lucky that I don’t sweat and my fan system keeps it comfortable. Your con tho of the isolation of VR is actually a pro for me. Locking me into the cockpit of a car without worrying or getting distracted with what’s going on around me is a huge help for concentration and immersion. While I love your setup I agree most of it is not useful if you can’t see it. I’m going to move to a hybrid system that way I have both but I generally just can’t give up the depth perception especially when I’m in packs of cars it all feels better just feeling the distance between things in VR.

I then bought a Elite-strap copy on amazon for like $30, which sits nicely on my head, and with this strap if it gets really warm, I can flip the quest 2 up a bit so its not directly to my face, making a little opening at the bottom, but not so much it will let a lot of light in.

Interesting points. It comes down to personal preference but for me it is VR 100%. The immersion is unreal, the sweat, heat and discomfort is something I experience in my real life race car so I was blown away how close it was with a VR head set. Combined that experience with a motion sim, you have pretty well tricked your brain to get you in the zone. Absolutely no way playing on a flat screen anymore.

It's impressive how less space you need if you drive in VR. But you need real good hardware to get perfect results. Unfortunately I also like to build stuff, so I can't see it. But will you where talking I realized to best simracing setup would be AR - with that you can enjoy your Rig and the best 3D view. But as always there are pro's and con's for both. I can also enjoy a 6h session without a break. BTW: If you have trouble with motion sickness - set everything up to get a CONSTANT framerate (the highest framerate your VR can handle).

Two of my drivers use VR full time for sim practice before a real race. I tried both of their setups and really enjoyed it. Problem for me was I race competitively on WSS which I didn't think about beforehand. I went ahead and purchased my own VR headset and during testing it was great like before! But when it came time for my first race in VR it was horrible. Within minutes I was sweating and the lens began to fog up. Thankfully it was only a 12 minute sprint. Then I was struggling to find my Brake Bias & TC knobs during qualifying and the race. This distracted me every time and caused me to lose consistency. I told the team I was selling my headset and they were totally confused. I had to explain that for my use it wasn't practical. If you race and interact with your sim equipment often, stick with monitors. If you like to just practice, hotlap, or cruise around then VR is for you! Great explanation on VR vs Triples. For met it's VR now. Why? Indeed, the immersiveness. I don't care too much about all the buttons and stuff, or I would have to go as far as you before I would be satisfied. And man, that's a damn project. So maybe it's a form of protection to not go down that route. I would be broke 🙂 I just want to feel like I am really in the car. For me VR has that more than triples. I want to get the feeling that I am going downhill or uphill, seeing that depth. When I turn my head there's a car next to me, the image changes when I turn my head. The current image (Reverb G2) is good an enormous improvement to say 3 years ago. But I would really love VR with a bigger Field of view (Pimax is no good imho) and with a larger sweetspot. I have to turn my head too much currently , and the clarity and reaction times of the view should be improved. So can't wait for that to happen.

I race in VR daily for at least 2-4 hours and more when time is permitted. I live in a hot country and sure, it can get pretty hot in the VR HMD however, I have a large Hatari 3 speed fan that is height adjusted to blow are directly at my HMD. Now I never sweat and no, I do not use my aircon. Easy remedy, try it and see.
