In this video I show you how I personally clean my chainsaw, using no petrol gasoline or soaking components for hours in containers of fluid. I don't clean my chainsaw after every usage, but after several usages depending on how dirty it has become.
The video consists of cleaning the area behind the chain cover (the Chain Drive Sprocket and Centrifugal Clutch etc). I show how I clean the dirt and debris from this area using either light oil or carburetor spray. I move on to the outside of the carburetor and air filter. Then inside the inlet area of the carburetor. I also remove the recoil and clean this inside and out. I then clean the flywheel and check it for 'up and down' movement that may suggest main bearing wear. The bar and chain then get a thorough clean before I place everything back together.
Thank you for watching my video and I hope it gives you some good ideas as to the way you clean your chainsaw.
This principle works for most types of Chainsaw saws, and the following also helps with Chainsaw maintenance. So, whether you are using a Stihl Chainsaw, Husquvarna Chainsaw, basically, all types of Petrol Chainsaw are valid for this principle, as well as many types of or a 2 Stroke Engine. The Electric Chainsaw, of course, escapes this whole principle!
If, by the way, you are having problems with your Chainsaw Not Starting, then please do take look at my other video, where I help you get back you and running again if your Chainsaw Won't Start, or your Chainsaw Won't Stay Running. • Chainsaw WILL NOT STAR...

A happy machine is a clean machine. I was distressed to see several of the other small engine channels post repair howtos and never took the trouble to clean the chainsaw, bushwacker, trimmer, etc. in the process. Glad to see someone showing a good cleaning. It drives me crazy to see grimey, soil caked small engines.

This is the first year I have owned a chainsaw. So I appreciate even the simplest of knowledge Ion taking care of it. While I might be able to research and find and answer. I honestly don’t know how the lubrication system works for the bar. I know I have a hole for the gas and a whole for bar oil, But I would find it interesting to understand how the bar receives that oil.

I've found that brake cleaner is a bit less harsh on rubber and plastic components than carburetor cleaner for cleaning items with those components. Well done on the video and keep up the excellent work!

Craig-The inlet of your carb is so dirty I suspect there is an air leak around the perimeter of the air filter letting debris in. With that much debris I’d be concerned about scoring of the cylinder and piston. Also possible is that filter not as efficient as it could be. I’ve taken apart much filthier and less cared for machines and the carbs were spotless so I really think there’s something amiss with yours. Can you have a look at your combustion chamber for us? Thanks! 👍🔧🧰

When you use high-pressure air to blow off the debris, aren't you afraid of pushing debris into the chain oiler? I always use tape to cover the chain oiler.

What's wrong with cleaning the chain in diesel, it's cheap, cleanes the chain and leaves a coating of oil behind to protect it from rust ! An other thing cover the oiling hole with u pinky when using air pressure for obvious reasons 😊

What are you spraying the bar with?
@TheRepairSpecialist
@TheRepairSpecialist 4 ай бұрын
It’s just light oil because it’s both lubricative and it cleans quite well. I know the it does also need greasing as well, but I usually do that before before using the saw rather than just a clean. 👍
@1quickdub
@1quickdub 4 ай бұрын
All that carb cleaner and not regreasing anything? Looks like that bar tip has a grease hole, clutch bearings can take some once in a while as well
@TheRepairSpecialist
@TheRepairSpecialist 4 ай бұрын
Yes I know what you mean. I just wanted to stick more with the cleaning in this vid but indeed there is a grease hole at the end of the bar, which I normally do grease prior to using the saw. Never the less, I should have mentioned that. Thanks. Craig
