Great video!! Great way to honor an old boy. I live on a hunting ranch in West Texas and anytime my husband and I find something we want to keep that died out here, we just wire it to our fence posts around the house. Once it’s been picked clean and the West Texas sun has done its job, we boil it once in a similar fashion and pressure wash it. We typically have to do a bit of restoration on the horns but not much. We use mop and glo also! Great trick! They always come out pretty dang white and never a problem with smell or bugs. Great job!

@@isaactrujillo76 no it’s not The proper acronym in plumbing literature is HWT (Hot Water Tank) google it Having HWT distinguishes it on purpose and is the proper way to describe it without causing confusion. As well as multiple ways to heat your water. Is it an on demand system or boiler / condensing boiler system? “Water Heater” means nothing

Hey man! Sweet video, I'm a euro guy and custom base maker for a taxidermist in texas. I thought I was the only one who thought of using dawn as a soak. I honestly had only good experiences with just a dawn and water soak for a single day. I got a customer his Longhorn in a weekend it it came out well, no grease spots. I think yours ultimately looked better because you spent more time, but I loved watching your process. I'm lucky enough to get free skulls of animals people don't want during deer season so maybe I'll run your method on a couple and see how they turn out. Keep up the great work!

I know some people think this stuff is gross, but I’m fascinated by it. There are lots of different methods of taxidermy, and this is one of them. I have a taxidermied bass and a tacidermied shark (yes, you heard me right, a shark. A type of freshwater shark, actually and his name is Jaws). I’m also a chef, so animal anatomy is something I learned.

I recently experimented with three separate environments for maceration for three deer skulls. Control subject was kept submerged in water full time in a tote (water changes as needed) The second skull was buried in a shallow sand/clay hole, and covered with a tote. The third was left unsupervised in a low woodland swamp (no tote) all were left for 1 year 2 months and the results are interesting. Subject 1 is brilliant white with little grease left, Subject two took on a deep rust orange color but otherwise clean. Subject three was yellowed white on the bottom, but green with algae and moss on the crown.
