Another alternative. Squeeze half a lemon into a bowl. Add a cup of water. Place in the microwave and turn on for 2 to 2.5 minutes. Remove the bowl. Wipe the inside of the oven with paper towels or a cloth.

I think its something to do with the heat of the vinegar/water possibly exploding once it gets really hot. Others use a wooden spoon. Dunno how it works but for that extra little step, why not?
