It will depend on how much you pay for a roller sleeves, the ones I use cost from $30 to $50 each. Throwing them away wouldn't make sense but yes if you use cheap rollers it can be more time effective to throw them away. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe

I doubt there is much to worry about. There is maybe 50 ml of paint left in a roller if its fully cleaned mechanically first. Most of that is water, and the bright white is titanium dioxide, which is inert. The acrylic monomers are diluted with a lot of water, and probably biodegrade in the soil. If you *dont* wash the rollers you have to buy a new one. Then you have to account for the energy and pollution created in manufacturing it, plus more landfill. Also, considering home owners paint maybe once every 10 years, thats a lot of time for the soil organisms to degrade it. Better anyway than flushing it down the drain, which Im sure a lot of people do.

Mark Ellis I'm not an expert, nor even a professional painter. Nor am I the original poster, as you seem to believe. I am a bit of a greeny, and do have concern about the effects of these chemicals. Given that people WILL clean out their rollers, the choice is between the ground, and the drain. I believe the ground is the better choice for the reasons stated. Out of sight, out of mind is hardly a rational policy.

The roller sleeves I use (lambs wool) cost about $40 each and do wash out very easily. There are other types that do take longer to wash out which you could class as border line to wash out or throw away due to cost. Cheap rollers don't necessarily give you a good finish so it's up to the individual what they choose either a good quality sleeve or a cheap throw away sleeve. I still have worn down rollers that I have had for a long time, they are still fine to use, I keep these for oil paint then throw them away after. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.

Firstly its water based paint and also when you are washing out there should be minimal paint in the roller. I'm sure the soil would be enough to filter out the paint partials long before it got to ground water, that's even if it made it that far. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.

Yes, on that lot, painting is going on 365 days a year, that means on average 2 roller cleanings a day, well you do the math. Better call the EPA now.
