This video demonstrates how to clean and oil painting using our professional oil painting cleaner.

How well will this work on a very textured oil painting? I am not sure if it has been varnished.

I have a 6'x6' foot raised texture painting that needs cleaning and I don't know how to.

If the raised areas are fragile we recommend looking into a professional clean by our conservation team.

@@FineartrestorationUk1 Thanks for the feedback but will this work as well? The simplest way to clean up an oil or acrylic painting on canvas is to use a white cotton cloth soaked in a gentle soapy water; olive oil-based soap works wonders. You'll be surprised to see how much grime comes off. Be gentle with paintings with thick impasto, as you do not want to break hardened paint.

My grandfather died before finishing a large portrait of my daughter. It has been hanging for approximately 30 years but I have no idea how to clean it. I'm sure it hasn't been sealed.
