Hey guys!
In this video, we’re going to learn how to flush your BFS spool bearings. This can be important as manufacturers often leave too much grease or oil in BFS spool bearings. A simple flush can help the stock bearings spin for much longer periods of time. Thanks as always for watching and cheers all!

Excellent. I would like to make a suggestion. With regard to the removal of the spool pin use the opposite end of the cross of the spool pin removal tool (the one without pin). This aligns always correctly until the pin is pressed flush with the axis. Then turn the cross and put the spool pin with the pin of the cross out of the spool axis. It‘s a two step process but it minimizes the risk bending the pin of the spool pin removal tool when you start pushing on the wrong end of the spool pin. In addition always use a soft bottom layer so that dropping parts don‘t bounce away. I learned it the hard way :)

Hey arne! Great pieces of information my friend! You are correct in that your procedure for using the spool pin removal tool is what is suggested by the manufacturer! I would also suggest and recommend using the method you use. The reason I use my method is because… I am lazy haha 😅😅😅 and I haven’t experienced a bent pin yet… but yes please follow arnes advice folks! As far as the soft bottom layer that you mentioned, that white may that my equipment is on is actually a watch makers work pad. It’s an interesting material that is soft and a bit shock absorbent. I have not yet had any issues with parts bouncing off and falling away. That being said, I think you are totally right to recommend working on a surface that will absorb the shock of a part dropping. Items like microfiber cloths, a thin towel or a thick cloth will work great for this application. Thanks so much for sharing these tips! Going to pin your comment for others to read and cheers my friend’

Good tip Peter! I do It the same way as you. My tool for removing the pin has two sides, one is wider (and slightly cupped) to push the narrow side in more easily, and on the other side a pointed one that takes it all the way through.
@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL
@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL 7 ай бұрын
Hey kalle! Yeap you are totally correct. You are meant to use the larger side to do most of the initial pressing and then swap to the smaller size once you get to the point where you need to press the pin through the spool shaft. I’ve developed a lazy habit of just using the smaller side to do everything haha 😅😅😅. Not a good habit to have lol. Thanks so much for sharing that tip and cheers my friend!

@@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL If it works, it works man! 😁🤗 Learned something new by the way, haven't let the shielded bearings sit for so long in the acetone, I'll do that next round. Like the air spray spray as well, I don't have access to compressed air myself so great stuff.
@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL
@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL 7 ай бұрын
@@kallesjostrom6127 hey kalle! Hahaha yep I love that mantra but I’m also one for tinkering so… I’m a bit at odds with myself lol. As far as the SS bearings go yea I would let them soak for overnight or a couple days and agitate the container they are in from time to time to help get any dissolved grease out of them. Also, the canned air tip is a great one! I also don’t have an air compressor handy haha so air dusters come in very handy for helping to dry off bearings quickly but also get them spinning. Most likely, you won’t clear 100% of the grease inside the SS bearing unless you deshield them but using the canned air can help. Just be warned for solvent and grease to spray out lol 😅😅😅. Anywho, thanks for sharing your thoughts and insight kalle!!! Cheers my friend!

usually I am using kerosene on cleaning or flushing bearings much more efficient and cheaper than acetone, also best for rusted bearing when accidentally soak on salt water. 😅
@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL
@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL 7 ай бұрын
Hey runo! Yep, you definitely can use kerosene for cleaning/flushing for sure. I believe kerosene actually leaves a light coating of oil after it flushes so it’s almost like a two in one. I am not sure it is readily available in the states anymore though as I have actually never used it. The reason I use acetone is because it leaves a clean slate so to speak and then I can come back in and use my low viscosity oil of choice to lubricate the bearing. Thanks so much for sharing your method and what it can be used on! Cheers my friend!

I need to to the opposite for my TW80 and the Ray's studio shallow spool. Even at maximum setting, I can't have decent braking for lures around 6g. The spool is too light, the inductor cup, the same.
@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL
@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL 7 ай бұрын
Hey Oscar! Hm that’s interesting. Rays studio spools come with micro hybrid ceramic bearings if I’m not mistaken? If that’s the case they’re not meant to be run with grease or lubrication. It might be that it’s a case of a poor matchup maybe… I’m not sure as I often don’t run into a case where the spool is too light and the bearings “too free” for a reel. How did you fix the issue out of curiosity? Also, is the spool meant for lure under 6g and not meant for lures over that weight? Cheers my friend!

@@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL mine never had any specification over lure weight. The problem is the spool is too much lighweight for the magforce system and/or the SV-like ramps inductor cup delay is too much. It's the first time i could not use the zero-adjust on magnetic brake reel. Gomexus says its spool is up to 5g lures, maybe to avoid problems like mine. I really doubt a SV-like spool with such a wide range of lure weight, if not being a sv-boost one.

Do they need to be dried off or will the acetone just gas off? Also what oil is best for this?
@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL
@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL 7 ай бұрын
Hey seized! Acetone should just evaporate off quickly but it’s fun to use compressed air to see the rpms haha. If you have roro bfs st bearings just make sure to remove the orings before flushing and spinning them fast. As far as oils go, you don’t need oil for ceramic bearings. They can be run completely dry for SS bearings though you might consider TSI321 or Superlube oil. I’d recommend something like ISO32-ISO100 if you’re going with Superlube oil. The lower the number the lower viscosity it is and will need replacing more often. Hope that helps and cheers my friend!

@@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL wait the stock bearings don’t need oil at all? Also what is a good way to remove the C clip without damaging anything
@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL
@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL 7 ай бұрын
@@seizedcarcass8440 hey seized! So there are two basic types of bearings and the need for lubrication depends on the type of bearing. In the video, I show the bearings with orange seals which are hybrid ceramic bearings. These bearings do not need lubrication at all. Stainless steel bearings though do require lubrication. As far as the c-clip goes the c-clip I removed in this video is specific to this spool. I am not sure other manufacturers use a c-clip and I think something like an o-ring would be a better solution and lighter. Let me know if that helps! Cheers my friend!

Since u suggested I could give you a thumbs down, I gave you one. Jk good video I do basically the same but I normally leave the bearings in the acetone for minimum 2 hours and shake the container pretty hard ever so often. If I think their is grease in the bearing I’ll leave them in over night or a couple of days
@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL
@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL 7 ай бұрын
Hey tj! Hahaha totally fair! A thumbs down definitely helps me understand what folks like and don’t like so I do appreciate input regardless of the nature. As far as your 2 hour soak though I guess I’m a bit lazy haha 😆. I don’t notice too big a difference with ceramics in terms of soak time but what I do notice is if the acetone I’ve been using is pretty contaminated from multiple cleanings then the bearings I’m cleaning don’t spin as long… Def agree with the frequent agitation if doing a long soak though! Thanks for sharing your input and techniques and cheers my friend!

I can't remove the bearing from the spool shaft of my 22 aldebaran bfs, it won't go past the pin hole like its burred or something, nothing visible though. Has anyone else had that problem?
@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL
@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL 7 ай бұрын
Hey Darren! Yea that’s an unfortunate issue to be having and actually I did experience something similar iirc. I think I “solved” my issue simply by pulling the bearing off the shaft with quite a bit of force… not the most eloquent solution and it does run the risk of damaging your spool and the bearing but it somehow worked out for me. I’d suggest to look at your spool shaft and see if there might be any debris or manufacturing imperfections. If no then try giving it another go and see if it won’t budge. If you do see burrs on the spool pin hole then you’ll have to remove them somehow. I would advise against sanding or filing the opening though… you might be able to get away with using your fingernail or something hard yet softer than the spool shaft material to push the burrs down or move them to the side and help them fall off. In any case, I’m sorry I don’t have much better info than this for you. Hope it helps though and please let us know what you end up doing. PS if you do decide to acetone flush your bearings please remove the orings prior to using acetone. Cheers my friend!
