In today's video I will be showing just how to clean those coins and relics that have been found whilst metal detecting.
There is many different methods and tricks that people use, however with a simple cheap tumbler and a little bit of polishing by hand, these items can come up almost like new again🙌
What a great way to display those old coins and relics!
Thanks so much for watching and I really hope you enjoyed🙂

Hi Luke , Thanks for sharing your experience on cleaning your artefacts and coins , I have decided after watching your video to purchase a rotary tumbler but there are two sizes 3 kg and a 5 kg in your opinion is the 5 kg as they say a penny for your thoughts Looking forward to seeing more of your future videos .All the best from a 🌞 South Devon in the UK
@DigItDetecting
@DigItDetecting 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much @GRUMPYGRANDAD Devon I am really glad you enjoyed watching mate and also found helpful. In my video I am using the 3kg rotary tumbler and it's great, however in saying that I would prefer to have the 5kg. I find that having the smaller 3kg tumbler I struggle to fit in some of the larger buckles, keg taps etc. So yes for the extra money...I think its definitely worth getting the larger 5kg to begin with. Best of luck with your purchase and I am sure you will enjoy the results. Catch you on that next adventure👍⛏

That was really cool! Do you clean your clad at all?
@DigItDetecting
@DigItDetecting 2 жыл бұрын
I have in the past cleaned some @Dawn The Metal Detective but being coated in nickel-copper then you can't tumble clad for to long at all. I would try 10 mintute intervals and check the results regularly.

Hi Luke, thank you for the video. I have small metal shot that came with the machine, should I also get pebbles? Also is there a reason you only use water and not CLR. Thanks again regards Andrew
@DigItDetecting
@DigItDetecting 10 ай бұрын
Hi there @Andrew Keating thanks so much for watching and your comment mate. I would definitely recommend using some fish tank pebbles in the tumbler when cleaning, they work amazing and don't damage or pit coins etc. I would however be careful using the supplied stainless steel shot that comes with the machine, as I have found in the past that it is low-grade and generally rusts very quickly...leaving horrible rusty patina on items. Best to go to Bunnings and grab some stainless steel washers, nuts and bolts etc which will help do the same job. Plus alot cheaper than buying more steel shot through eBay. I also haven't tried CLR...just use water. No real main reason...but I would be careful what you place in there, as some chemicals can build up pressure and blow the lid or crack the barrel over time. I wish you the best of luck Andrew🙂 Happy digging and happy cleaning mate👍⛏️

Hi Luke, I’ve got the same tumbler but I keep breaking the rubber belt things that turn the barrel. What is your one made of and where did you get it?
@DigItDetecting
@DigItDetecting 2 жыл бұрын
Hi @Ben de Groot the belt that is shown on my tumbler in video is still the original belt that was supplied with the tumbler when purchased. However it is wearing itself out to, so I will need to be replacing mine soon also. I was told a while ago that you can find replacement belts for these at your local white goods dealer. They should have a small belt off a washing machine or dryer that will fit on no worries. Best of luck mate👍

Sorry if I sound pessimistic haha I know no one will ever agree wether or not to clean or how to clean coins. The ‘Coffee bush kid’ did a great video on his channel a while back about using electrolysis to clean silvers, gets all that black off and they come up shiny without all that abrasion, but I love my tumbler for cleaning up the odd brass relics, great video, kind regards 👍🏼🤠

Hi there. You mentioned in the video that you put something in the tumbler that you shouldn't have and it destroyed the original lid on the tumbler. I am just curious what you put in the tumbler that broke the lid? Thanks.
@DigItDetecting
@DigItDetecting Жыл бұрын
Hi there @Jeff Slaunwhite for memory the mix that I put in the tumbler was vinegar and a bit of bi carbo soda. Mixed of course with stones and some stainless steel shot. The lid end up perishing and pretty much disintegrating in my hands. I am now very careful what I add into the tumbler mix🙂
