little tip from a plumber, take the head off of the line(use a bread clip to hold the line or the weight will pull it down out of reach) and soak the whole thing. this allows the descaler to run right through, as leaving it connected prevents it from filling completely.

@@WigglyTuffStuff pull it down, and you can unscrew the faucet head from the silver piece. Just be sure to secure the hose otherwise it will get pulled into the neck of the faucet and you'll have a less than fun time getting it back out. Pro tip you can just remove the faucet head and soak it in the vinegar in a piece of old Tupperware, let work itself up in there from both sides. If youre feeling extra fancy you can disassemble it into its basic components and let the vinegar work from every angle, and while you're at it you can change out the aerator screen (as well as flush out any solids that were trapped by the old one) it adds like 5-10 minutes of extra work altogether.

We have very hard water in my house, and I have to change the faucets, showerheads, and other water valves constantly. I have tried this by completely submerging the parts on vinegar for multiple days and it just doesn't fully work. I've even done it multiple rounds with scrubbing in between. No luck. I conciously buy faucets that are taken apart easily and I take them completely apart for a deep cleaning. That way I don't spend a fortune on new faucets and showerheads every couple of months.

Vinegar is amazing. Also it’s really good at getting hard water spots off of shower doors or windows or anything really. Also I had this cat that would pee on my laundry if it was on the floor. (He stopped after I got him fixed) but I didn’t want to throw my clothes away and so I would wash them with the regular laundry detergent and vinegar. Vinegar is the only thing that’s ever gotten the smell out.

For those wondering about what’s going on The main component from what I know in that buildup, is calcium carbonate, or lime stone. It comes from water, it’s normal, but it does build up. Adding vinegar to the calcium carbonate allows the acetic acid to attack the carbonate, making calcium acetate (water soluble) and breaking up the carbonate into water and carbon dioxide. Theoretically a stronger acid would do things even quicker but vinegar is fine if you leave it there for a bit.

I'm a plumber and I would disagree with that statement vinegar eats rubber when left on for too long! why didn't you just pull the head down and submerge it in a bowl or take it off of the line? There's usually a fine screen right at where it's connected to the hose that gets clogged up unless you clear that you're not going to do anything ladies and gentlemen call a plumber when plumbing needs to be done
