Apple has taken down the installer from their App Store. If you need to download the installer, get it here: itunes.apple.com/us/app/macos-high-sierra/id1246284741?ls=1&mt=12 Make an installer while you still can so that you have it in case they take it completely off their servers.

I downloaded the file manually in *.dmg format. Is there anything I should do with it first before preparing the USB as bootable?

@@danbalares4818 I wish I could help you but I havn't got the installer to make a bootable USB drive. I'll keep trying and when I find out how I will upload a video. For now just upgrade your computer

Great video thanks but there is a newer problem, now when I want to download High Sierra from the App Store I get the message in App Store page "this copy of the install macos high sierra is damaged, and can't be used to install macOs" and can't even be downloaded. I found a link to download High Sierre in techspot: www.techspot.com/downloads/6907-macos-sierra.html. Is it legit? Why can't High Sierra be downloaded from the App Store? Is there any solution? Thanks again.

@@Ahab1 Delete the old downloaded installer and download the installer again. It would be better to use the installer from app store than 3rd party websites. That's how I did it.

May 28 2023 STILL USING YOUR VIDEO!!! I have a 2.6 iMac mini…was using Open Legacy UNTIL 6.6-what a horror show-I couldn’t even see the web pages so I couldn’t see where to download the patch…HORROR SHOW… decided to go back to High Sierra…thank you for your video-in the process of finishing it up!

I would like to point out that the new file system that Apple has implemented in High Sierra is APFS. The Encrypted version of APFS is just an added feature to the file system which is recommended for users who would like to secure the data on their disk by encrypting its contents. Therefore, if there is no need of data encryption, APFS (the first option from the Format list) can be used too. It is also important to mention that you should only use the APFS format if your Mac has an SSD as this new file system is optimized for flash memory. If your Mac has an HDD you should format the Macintosh HD using Mac OS Extended (Journaled) file system.

Thanks! I’m fairly new to macOS and I tried for 2 days to get the fresh install completed. Mostly because my “Macintosh HD” was labeled 256gb SSD, so I was afraid to erase. Your “internal” tip showed me I was doing it right lol

Great bit of info. After eight years of faithful service, and many updates, I do believe that its time to clean house and do a clean install of Mac OS X. Luckily Apple has been gracious enough to keep supporting this old girl over the years. This is why Im an Apple fan; if this had been a PC it would have been in the bin years ago. thanks alot, the links provided clarified minor questions I had as things were not exactly as they were for you. Went from Leopard to OS Highsierra today with a clean install and fresh computer! Going to clean install this onto my moms macbook as shes been stacking updates back since snow leopard, should make her computer run so much smoother, it brutal how slow it is...

Everything Tech My machine(Mid 2015) is stuck when when i click install macOS and then continue after 30 minutes i was still waiting to happen something.I tried 3 times but nothing happened.i changed my USB made fresh bootable 3 times.i lost my original OS as well because i earsed my drive using disk utilities.please help.

Your tutorial was so clear, accurate and easy to follow! Thanks to your tutorial, I was just able to do clean installs on two computers. I'm fairly computer-literate but don't do installs much. My computer(s) badly needed cleaning up and because of your tutorial I didn't have to take it to a shop. I did it myself with no problems.

Excellent video and works a treat. I made the mistake of trying to connect the network box that came up underneath the "Install OS high Sierra" and of course nothing was happening, I watched that part again and could see that you just ignored the network connect request and just clicked on the install. If you follow this video to the letter you shouldn't go wrong...(famous last words lol 😂) I'm 61 and if this ole gal can do it then so can you 😛

GREAT tutorial - followed your advice to do a clean install in a Mac Mini (2012) as it had started to slow right down. Everything went very smoothly - it did take quite a while but once installed everything worked great. There is no doubt my Mac Mini is now working much faster than before. A good clean-out and new OS has done the trick - thank you for taking the time to prepare this tutorial and share your knowledge. (an easy thumbs up)

Mr Noob .....yes if memory serves me right I think I did. I seem to remember watching it for quite a while expecting the progress bar to move more quickly but it seemed to be taking forever , I think in the end I just left it running, went to bed and checked it the next morning by which time it had fully installed and was at the log in screen.

slicker55 mine wasn't moving at all, i can install El Capitan but sierra and high sierra won't install. Even apple genius couldn't figure out why it won't install. So they told me to purchase a new one or replace the motherboard for 800 😱. Glad your one is working.

Amazing tutorial... yesterday i had Aple on the phone to try and assist me to create the boot disk,, after watching your video it worked forst time and i have managed to create the disk and do a clean installation....Its just updating now so hopefully all will be good.... Many thanks

12:32 on your "used" part it says its using 1,28 GB but on mine says 2,86, do you know why?

Updates. The older an OS is, the bigger the file. I did this video when High Sierra was still relatively new and there have been several updates to it since then that make the file bigger. Don't worry too much about it

For those who are having problem: if your installation file has 19 mb, or something around this, check for updates in your App Store, just after download and install all the updates, you can delete the 19mb file (if you downloaded) and then try download High Sierra again from App Store, now your file should have around 5gb.

usb 3.0 took me maybe 1 min. I had no "Install macOS High Sierra" (when restarting) but the same logo, the name was "uefi boot"(after formating the usb drive in disk utility was shown as in video "(...) extended (Journaled)". Also people on forums recommend to do ONLY APFS.

Make sure you update to the latest version of High Sierra and delete the install file you downloaded before the update. I did this and I was able to avoid all the problem stated below.

awesome tute. for the 20:34 you can format it as exfat as well to be able to use on pc. fat only have a 4gb capacity per file

Just a heads up, if you encounter "...does not appear to be a valid OS installer application", remove the installer from "Applications" and go to App Store and do a search on "High Sierra" using the search engine bar on top right, click download once you've found High Sierra app, then repeat the same steps as per mentioned in the video. The download should take slightly longer time. Reason: The normal 19mb HIgh Sierra update in the App Store does not do a clean install, only an upgrade from your current OS while retaining your disk data.

Be careful, if you create the bootable disk on Yosemite the USΒ is on the same file system. So on the step when you erase the Macintosh HD you have to select the (Journaled ). This is not showned here as the USB was created on ASFP and it works perfectly

I fell into that trap as my bootable drive was created on a Mac which has journaled as its file system, and because I formatted the internal drive to AFPS, I wasn’t able to continue the installation as disc utility didn’t allow me to format the internal drive back to journaled. I did however manage to that in disc utility by first entering internet recovery mode. Thank you for your comment as it made me realize the cause of the actual issue.

Great tutorial!! Minute 10:45, the disk is gray because is encrypted and you need to mount it with the password before use it, but in this case it doesn't matter.

Be sure to select "GUID" as your SCHEME for partition when erasing/formatting the flash drive. This tutorial was done on a High Sierra machine, so you don't see the same selections if you are working from an earlier OS.

It is not your fault... Apple has taken down the full intsaller of High Sierra (with all the package contents... the normal size of this file must to be higher of 5GB)... but when you click on the App link (get button)... you get a 24.5Mb file that is just a caller for the installer from the apple servers

A problem I encountered when doing the upgrade was the operating system not detecting my external drive. If it doesn't detect your drive, restart your computer and try again

I just clean installed macosx sierra with your previous tutorial after it crashed on update to osx high sierra. My computer is macmini server. My question is: 1. Is it worthed in upgrading to osx high sierra? 2. Why I can't just update it from sierra to high sierra? 3. What is the difference between updating to high sierra and clean install to high sierra? I’m Not the original owner of the iMac 2011 with El Capitan OS. I bought it used. The previous owner cleaned the data and reset the admin password but not erase the iMac. Question is in your video, minutes 15:30 , required to enter Apple ID and password, can I enter my apple id and password or the system required the previous owner info to allow installation to be continued. Thanks . Your video is really helpful

You should be able to put in your own Apple ID unless an email that’s not yours comes up saying it’s iCloud locked.
