***** My water ends up in a similar place as yours, the only difference is I don't poison the water with those chemicals. But hey, I honestly wish that you and your family ends up drinking that water that you contaminated, those unbreakable oil particles will do a lot good in your arteries, right?. and for your info; those high tech cleaning facilities use only chlorine and charcoal and that do not removed those chemicals that you are dumping of public water supply.

***** You know what??? I am sorry for jumping on you like that, but if just 20% of the population would do as you do, we all be dead very soon. I don't drink tap water either but unfortunately I have to shower with it, and most of the fruit and veggies that we ALL eat, are water with that tap water. I am a marine biologist, I do not know where you get that idea of super high tech filtration system, ha-ha-ha, Good lord, you have no idea. Again, my apologies for being such a bi@$@h to you. The engine compartment gets hotter than a blow dryer. Not talking heat gun, hair dryer. But it's a consistent rise in temp for the whole filter. Knuckleheads that hold it on one spot for 5 minutes will damage the filter cuz only a small area is heating and expanding. That will damage the filter.

It's to do with the filter being wet with heat nothing to do with how it heated. Look at the property of water as it gets hot and evaporates under force and heat as that's what damaged the filter. Just heating it in one place won't damage it unless.you have a silly hot heat gun on it. Think about when it's cold outside and the engine warms up and heats up the filter from one side first. Than think about the air being pulled into it filter under loads as they would cool the filter when hot so k&n have made the filter not withstand hot and cold extremely Well. Hope this clears stuff up for you guys

Tips for reviewers: I've blown with air dryer 2 times on the same occasion (even before watching the video - And with several filters. No problems at all). 1st time: blow with cold to mild temperatures, and not keeping it close to the filter more than 10sec. On the 2nd time (mild temperature to ensure drying out). Note: it can't be harmful in any way, because most dust will literally be dry. If you blow the filter from the inside the crap actually gets loosen and gone away from the filter. Understand that either the metal grid and the fabric inside deteriorate with heat and rust. Thus the oil to protect it and make it last longer.

@@dominicvega9267 true you should avoid whenever possible but think about using chemicals like drain-o, dumping dirty mop water with bleach down the drain. Realistically it's normal

@@julianthethief water treatment plants DO NOT pull oils out. they TREAT water not filter it per say. oils will disperse FAR better in soil then in the direct water supply/graywater.

Go sparingly on the red oil as in the video and clean every time you change the oil. Check your spark plugs before and after, if the electrode is tan/white then air/fuel is correct, if black then the mixture is too rich, and maybe too much oil was put on the filter.

Used a boat dryer to dry mine worked like a charm that cleaner stuff didn’t really clean my filter that great tho but I have it now so one more use and I’ll probably be buying another filter for a new setup anyways

The filter that I have was red when I first bought it. After cleaning it and reoiling it, it still wasn't red like it use to be. Did I not use enough oil or is that just how it is?

so video helpful. I have a K&N/Banks filter which is even more conical and a PITA to clean. Sending oil down the sink to the the treatment plant then rivers to ocean ain't the way to go BTW

Also, besides the sink washing thing, I immediately noticed the box said that this product contains carcinogens. So I wore nitrile n then mechanic gloves on top n avoided any contact.

I prob put an extra coat or two that I shouldn't have yo make it evenly red across the whole cone filter but I have ocd so yeah might be clogged but I'll use use an air compressor and make sure it not clogged from the other side😋

kevintao Just clogging air filter is not the real issue, it's clogging the mass air flow sensor inside the intake that is the problem when over oiling the filter, it's when the excessive oil gets sucked through the filter into the intake and ruins the sensor, it's 1-2 hundred to replace, next time be more careful.

kaaimea mckee spectre and aem filters are made by k&n on the same line in the same plant. they are just a rebranded k&n

That happens when they get old. I just had to replace my Cobb cause it was cracked all around the clamp... But it took 8 plus yrs b4 I had to.. N FYI I put A new Cobb filter on tonight lol

No harm. The fabric absorbs the oil. but you need to spray it on the outside at least because the air and dust flows out to in.

Compressed air works on drying it off to speed things up just keep the pressure low is all. That way you can’t overheat it

Not if you bought a K&N filter, they come pre oiled.. If you buy a basic drop in air filter, they do not require oil..

I was not clear on the amount of oil to be applied. Just one spray coating around the filter? 2 perhaps? While letting the 1st one seat for a couple minutes? Done this a couple times with cheap filters a used 1 coating (Result was Pink). K&N recommends to get a nice red coating. I'm doing this for the 1st time in a motorcycle and I definitely can't let that oil to get into the engine in any way. Advise would be great. P.S: Thanks for the video. Actually done the air dryer before watching the video.

You should clean your air filter every 3,000 miles just like an oil change. 50,000 is rated for highway use

Helpful video. Hail to KZfaq! Normal Joe can do anything with the help of KZfaq these days. Was going to comment about the chemicals down the sink because my 25+ year career has been in drinking water and sewage treatment.. but it seems to already have been bashed to death at nausea below. Simply put, no real great way to dispose of it. We all die one day anyway so just do your best trying not to kill your neighbor. :)
