I had the lid to an old aluminum lid to a soup pot that was my Mother's back in the 1970's....she obviously put it in the dishwasher many times, as I did too...not realizing it was getting more stained and discolored each time. I was on the verge of throwing out the pot and lid until I saw your video....I looked under the sink cabinet and 1 Brillo pad in the box and some Barkeepers Friend....I scrubbed it up and it's almost like new....I need to get some more Brillo pads to finish the job, but it's amazing how nice it looks...and it wasn't a lot of effort either. I know I'm just a sentimental old fool, but I just hate throwing out something that my Mom used for so many years and has so many memories....she made lots of split pea soup in that pot....and maybe I'll make some tomorrow for old times sake!!! Thank you for your video and helping me restore an old pot and an old memory :)

I'd like to say that if I were still teaching science, THIS is an excellent example to students of how to use the scientific method. Thank you so much for making a nearly scientific evaluation, including a control sample. As for the scratching form the Brillo pad, replace it with a very fine steel wool and use that with Bar Keeper's Friend. I suspect that will give you the best results with the least effort. BKF already contains an abrasive (feldspar), but not much of it, so that is why I suggest using a fine steel wool as your main abrasive.

Thank you for doing this video. I have a couple cake pans that are stained that I want to clean up. Unfortunately, there’s not much info out there as to what actually works. I’ve tried cream of tartar and vinegar, but it didn’t work. I’ll try Bar Keeper next. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻

I had a black grease/residue coming off a metal attachment to a mixer after going in the dishwasher, would these solve that issue also and make it safe to use again?

What about vinegar or citric acid, would you consider? I have those on hand and a pot that has this same damage.

Is there any way of restoring a Picquot Ware Magnailium teapot that has been put in dishwasher - would he same advise apply?

Top ones are best, no scratches, the scratching is what cleaned the bottom ones
