Thanks for making this video and sharing your information. Im a college student and I don't have much money to work with. I've had idle issues and I cleaned my throttle and sensors. The vehicle is much better in idle than it was before I cleaned it. There is a slight stutter but I might need to drive it more but I definitely noticed the difference. Thanks again!

Thanks for the video! I had to use the padded handle of an adjustable wrench to hold open the valve, wasn't sure what you meant by a friend in the car holding it open. Then I sprayed cleaner on a rag to clean the valve and all around and inside it. Then did the minute on/minute off as instructed and feels like a new car! No hesitation or rough idle anymore Thank you.

best way is to remove the 4 10mm bolts and harness plug leave the coolant line on and lean the throtle body foward so you can get behind it where the real dirt lies

I just cleaned throttle body of my 2008 Mazda 3 Takara today and it's better than before.. i didn't found any video on YT for my Takara ,so I decided to do this by checking other videos available for other models of mazda 3.. then i removed the air filter pipe for easy access and removed the rubber pipe from TB and cleaned with Just contact cleaner.. its a drive by wire system so i did it myself without any help.. also i removed the MAF Sensor and cleaned with contact cleaner and wait for 10 min to dry both.. then packed well and BOOOOOMM..

I found a few other vids on here for mazda throttle body cleaning, but they weren't specific enough or they were using mechanic jargon (making it sound more complicated than it should). I have an 07 Mazda3 touring that has been idling rough for a couple months now. Had it inspected, and a tuneup and it's still running rough. So I'm betting this is the issue. Thanks again!

Great Video! But for me the easiest way to clean your throttle body is by only removing the intake hose connected to the throttle body itself. Then undo the x4 clips for the air filter cover and sensor clip. Just move it aside. Way easier then trying to remove the other 2 hose intakes.

I had surging issue at low speeds after drilling holes in the bottom portion of the air box, the rpm's would float up and down a few seconds before returning to idle, so i got some throttle body cleaner and mass airflow meter cleaner and i hope that corrects it. Nice post.

Yes clean butterfly plate and around you really dont need to worry the amount that might get in will burn up and the tooth brush and rag clean it up pretty well with out very much falling inside

Cleaned mine this morning and all is well. My 2008 3 was not starting on the first prime. Now it seems to be starting like normal. Hopefully, that will solve that issue.

I cleaned mine at 120k kms. I just pushed the butterfly vane to full open and sprayed throttle body cleaner. While holding the vane, i wiped the insides with a clean rag. Repeat it 2 to 3 times and start the car. Let it idle for 5 to 10 minutes.

You will be fine just do exactly what i do in the video and yes key in the on position with some one pressing the gas pedal

Well you would be able to disassemble and clean it better yes but i find just just a toothbrush and a rag does the trick for cleaning the plate

I have the exact same problem.. mine is a 2005. just wondering is it possible to do this by myself? do I need to unhook any line or disconnect the battery terminals to clean the throttle body? (given that I have no plan to remove the whole thing to clean it) and how do you open the butterfly plate so it flips open like in your video? do you do that with the key at the on position? sorry.. I had some stalling issues and rough idling issues on my Mazda 3 2004 which caused it to throw a check engine light. Cleaning the throttle body is super easy, and an inexpensive job that you could do by yourself. After cleaning it seemed to fix the problem! try doing this instead of getting costly repairs done.

Nope it was just a little rough on low rpms so i cleaned it.

hey man, I cleaned my throttle on an 04 3.2L today and then noticed that the rpm would be around 1.5 when it's on neutral while its moving, and as soon as i come to a complete stop it would take 3-4 seconds and the rpm would drop to .9 where it should normally be. Do you know if that's normal and will take a couple of weeks for the computer to get used to it or is the throttle ruined? Sorry for the long paragraph :)

Hey my mazda's been showing an engine management light from time to time and seems to be drinking fuel. I used a friend of mine's code reader and basically said it was the o2 sensor so I've decided to give this a go before I go and buy one. Does this sound like were talking about the same thing?

Hey thanks for posting all these videos! I do have an issue tho. I went 140k w/o cleaning my Throttle body and just learned how. So I detached the unit to clean both sides, re-attached, and now when i drive around, my RPMs will bounce even when i dont have the gas pressed down. The idle is MUCH better now (sometimes it would fully choke and stall if the a/c was activated). Im going to try undoing my neg terminal like you suggested, but any other ideas? The guy who helped me out noticed the computer said my throttle plate was maintaining a 10 - 14% open when the gas wasnt being pressed. Suggested I may need a new throttle body. Thoughts? Forgive my motorhead n00bness, im new to the game. Thanks again!!

Hey, just did this on sat, followed instructions on how to reset after clean... During test drive I noticed that RPMs were really high and there was a jerk after about 2 seconds after letting off the gas.... I can't figure out what it is and haven't been able to correct it. It seems to be worse in 3rd and 4th but almost Nonexistent in 5th. Any suggestions on what it could be? This problem did not exist prior to cleaning the throttle body??

After taking the snorkle off what do i have to do in order to make the golden plate move. What do i have to press.

I used a toothbrush and dropped it in the throttle body. I had to use a coat hanger to get it out.

Also the throttle body is drive by wire, no cable.

I heard that if you touch the actual throttle then it can ruin it altogether, so you have to be very careful to avoid it, is this true?

You should have just done the relearn procedure, it teaches the car to compensate for the dirt and gunk in the throttle body.

Nice video. But may I make a suggestion? I believe it would be better and safer to remove the negative terminal prior to doing this...or most work such as this under the hood. This would also eliminate many issues mentioned in the comments, as it will force a full reset afterward. Most dealers, I believe skip this step to save time. Thanks.

Yeah, it's not a good idea to spray it in modern cats. Safer to clean it with pre-applied cleaner on a cloth.

my mazda 3 2005 when it is warm the car revs very very low when i am stopped, feels like it wants to shut off. when i give gas to go, it has a delay. when my car is cold and i dont warm it up (between hot and cold) my car will RPM will jump up and down when stopped and my car will shut off. by doing this cleaning would you think it will help my mazda? thank you

So mycar was super stalling and hesitating, to the point it would even turn the engine off when im not accelerating. The battery light would flash before engine failure as if I needed a new alternator.... well nope just went and bought some throttle body cleaner and clean the inside as shown. YOU DO NOT NEED A BUDDY TO PRESS THE GAS it is a 1 man job you can manual move the manifold with your hand without damaging anything. Use a tooth brush and a rag don't be scared of spraying cleaner directly into valve just don't over do it.... car round runs like a 2015 now and it's an 04 mazda

Hmm its a rotery engine right? Throttle body should clean the same yes tooth brush and throttle body cleaner and a cloth. The only thing that might change a little is disassembly.

Isn't the throttle body coated in a special coating from the factory and your not suppose to clean it off or you can ruin your TB? Most newer Ford cars are this way and the Mazda 3 is basically a Ford.
