I practiced this with cheap, beat up cars I bought and a garage sale before I went and did it to my more expensive models. This video was well worth it. Thank you!

Great idea to do a show on cleaning.Agreed 200%, to me when i am polishing that particular car it is quality time admiring the fine lines and details of that car as well. I find myself as well using some spray detailer on a car when i first get it out of the box adds a better shine. It just seems as if some have a layer of film or something on them when they are boxed.Or maybe its just me lol but ether or i always do it as like you said as well it help protect the car longer. Excellent vid Joe. Keep em coming.

I have a bunch of How-To's on deck, and I'm wide open to any and all suggestions ion future ones, if there['s anything you'd like to see. Thanks a lot for watching - I appreciate it!

Thanks for sharing this with me Joe. I get a little picky about my models too! LOL! Thank you also for sharing that furniture Polish is bad for your diecast. Other car sites and magazines said this was a good way to clean them. Thank goodness I didn't try that on any of mine! Thank you and take care Joe.

Hi, Daniel - my pleasure! We'll be doing more in the coming months. Back when the Ertl "American Muscle" line and Bburagos were the main attraction in 1:18, a few guys used spray polish, and got away with it. I wouldn't try that today, LOL... Thanks for watching!

I would like to further add that i use a swifter duster( which works well and doesn't move dust around but picks it up) also lightly compressed air( from a small air compressor) works well too.

I have a Ford Sierra Cosworth RS 500 race car 1:18 scale with lots of decals. Texaco decals among others. My concern is two things. I don’t want to risk taking off the decals and secondly I’m worried about getting any wax on the black plastic. Does anyone have any idea if it’s ok to put wax over the decals or should they be avoided? There’s a lot of decals so I don’t think it’s possible to avoid them. I also noticed that he didn’t seem too concerned about getting the works on the windows.

Hi Joe thanks fo sharing this with us, I live near the sea and have some problems with rust on my models, do you think using WD-40 is good to protect the paint ? thanks again Joe.
@Thecarroom
@Thecarroom 10 жыл бұрын
Hi, carlorjj - NOOOOOOO! (LOL). WD-40 is great on metals and such, but it contains a ton of solvents that'll probably destroy your models in every possible bad way, from attacking the finish to loosening up any all the attached parts that have been glued. Your best bet is to keep your cars clean and dust free, and wax them once in a while to keep a barrier of protection on them. Thanks for watching!

Hey Joe : this could start a whole new business . diecast car cleaning, you send your collection to someone and they come back looking brand new.

Hmmmm... you may have something, there, LOL.... I actually knew a guy once who did exactly that... only he'd travel to the collections and do the repairs and cleaning on site. This was strictly for higher-end images, of course!

Hi Joe, is it okay to use car wax for polish the paint surface? Do you have any other brand recommend?
@Thecarroom
@Thecarroom 10 жыл бұрын
Hello , Hu! The best advice I can give is to use the best polish/wax you can find. You don't want to use anything that has a lot of abrasives or solvents. I started using the Meguiar's after I'd tried it in a detail kit marketed buy GMP a few years ago. It really has given me the best results of any product I'd ever tried. Another alternative is a wax called "The Treatment" which is a high-end model wax used by a lot of collectors. You might be able to find it online. Try a few different products, but use caution until you know you have one that works for you. Thanks for watching!

@Thecarroom
@Thecarroom 10 жыл бұрын
Alex - I'm doing a how-to on that right now. It'll be up tomorrow - but part of the problem might be the brand of glue you're using. All of them "outgas", but some do it a lot less. try Traxxas "Tire Glue" - but look at the video tomorrow, just in case. Thanks!

I like to just wash mine in the sink using mild dish soap in warm water. I rinse off the big stuff first then fill the sink up with a sudsy bath. I submerge the car and use an old tooth brush for tires and a horsehair one for the rest, taking care if there are any old decals or paper license plates. After, I check the water for any thing that may have come off and make sure to dry the model well with clean towels to avoid any water spots. Since Zamak doesn't rust, this seems to be a quicker and more thorough way to wash the car; just like we do our real ones.
