Don't forget to mark your primary clutch cover to the tower with a Sharpie. That way it goes together the same way because they are balanced from the factory.

I would actually etch or stamp it, because the sharpie will come right off from the Brakleen and handling.

First you disassemble all your clutches, then you send the wife to town for beer. Once she leaves, you put everything in the dishwasher and give it a wash. Once it is done, simply empty and blow everything off with air. Then load dishwasher with dirty dishes, when wife gets home with beer explain that you loaded the dishwasher but couldn't figure out how much soap to use. Go have a cold one while she starts the dishwasher.

DIGIT9 It’s my first winter riding the big boy sleds My clutch seems to be working properly , it engages and shifts all that but makes a slight clunking sound The sound happens at slow speed , when I engage the throttle , sometimes it doesn’t make any sound and sometimes it does a light “clunk” then engages . Same thing if I’m going fast and slow down, then stay off the throttle then when I re-engage the throttle it clunks , It’s a 2009 Polaris dragon with 1500miles

Good vid! Question about cleaning. I have been reading a lot of opinion on using brake cleaner to clean clutch faces/sheaves. Many are saying it’s a no-no as it leaves residue in the metal that comes out once the clutch heats up, and then causes belt slippage and breakdown of the belt material. Some people say alcohol and acetone, no brake cleaner, others use brake cleaner and say no acetone. So many thoughts and opinions on the matter!?

I dry lube my clutch assemblies so they have something to minimize the wear. I've never heard of removing the springs. Interesting thought... I could see it if they were in compressed position all the time, but I see them like the valve springs in your truck engine, and you'll never remove them for storage, and some of them will stay compressed for a long time. They're made of a material that's designed to be stressed. I suppose that's why I've never seen them removed for storage...

Yeah, there were 3 nuts on top that I slowly took apart with small turns and it came apart pretty easily. Although after cleaning and going to put it back on, some metal bar cam out of the clutch. I’m assuming it goes into the groove of the inside of the clutch to be the male end for the shaft so it doesn’t freely spin on the shaft. I put it back in and got it back on the shaft. It grabs and wants to turn the track so I assume this is good to go. Or no?

I do my mod sleds after every trip , and my stock sled about 4-5 times per season ! But if you blow your clutch’s out with compressed air after every trip or once a week , it will prolong the cleaning procedure !!

No need tare it all apart unless weights are sticking or spring binding, all you need to do is take sand paper and scrub all surface that the belt rubs on after you scrub it with sand paper take asatone on a cloth and wipe it down. Never use scotch bright as he did little fiber fall off and ruin the clutch bushings
@mendomotox1569
@mendomotox1569 4 жыл бұрын
What about the sand from the sand paper getting into the bushings and wrecking them? Scotchbright is fine, just clean it all after.

A good rule of thumb is if it doesn't burn when you get it on your hands/fingers when your skin has cracks or any cuts on them the cleaner is no good. Lol.
