You might want to consider getting yourself a Tirfor fixed line puller. It is a real aid in pulling trees, whether falling against the lean or falling hung up trees safely. There are a number of different type pullers on the market, cable or rope, but fixed line pullers (cable) are simply great. I have both the 3/4 ton and 1.8 ton ones for the tree work that I do. The 3/4 smaller one covers a lot of territory and not so heavy. Super well made tools that have been around for a long time. Real good to have in your kit. Pull your car out of a ditch too..

Ive seen alot of people start cutting parts of that tree while its hanging, angled cuts making the tree slide down. The problem with that method is its pretty unreliable in terms of where the tree slides. Secondly you end up making the tree standing more and more straight, hoping for the bind to release. This method requires skill and was really fun to watch, once i realised what you were doing. I wonder tho, if you had pushed that slide part further in, maybe the tree would slide further, instead of pushing the slide out. Anyways a joy to watch greetings from Norway

I wonder now as long as the hinge is already broke, or just if not that much left, could you put a chain or cable a few feet up the tree and use a winch to pull it back? Either a trunk winch if there is a path near, by hand with a come along, or battery powered winch.

Humbolt fell would have been much faster with same result. However, it was a novel idea. Having done this many times, I would have made the Humbolt face cut first, then cut the hinge from back side, followed by a diagonal cut (if needed) with same angle as the face cut, but not quite all the way, then made the trigger cut to the face, from just below where the diagonal comes out. It would make a second slide-off in same direction, gaining about 6' more, which would complete the fell, but the bar would be unaffected as base slides slightly above it.

@@FINNISHLUMBERJACK :^) Thank you for taking the time to read, visualize, and comment on my method! In some locations a bucket truck and heavy equipment is not practical due to terrain, so if creative chainsaw solutions are possible, predictable, and safe, I learn something new, and get entertained in the process. Your slider method was definitely entertaining also, and a bit scarey. Btw, it was clear that you carefully chose the direction of the fell for the purpose of demonstrating your (very) creative slider method. My guess is that it would have slid farther if you elevated the far end of the slider log, so the base wouldn't jam into the ground. Addressing safety, every time you walked back and forth in front of the base to make both your plunge cuts and your final cuts, I held my breath and prayed the hinge would not pop unexpectedly, like they sometimes do.

The advantage I see with the method in the video is that you arenot working at the base of the hung tree in the final and most dangerous step that releases the tree.
@johnrobertson7583
@johnrobertson7583 8 ай бұрын
if the tree is more vertical...i make a bore cut about 4 feet off the ground at a 45-60 degree angle...I insert a wedge...and then release the two holding pieces and let the tree drop straight down...I repeat this until I feel the tree can be pushed over the opposite direction from the initial intended direction of fall...its pretty much what you have to do in a dense stand of pines...

@@user-ws7us5me4s Yeah, this is not an instruction manual and the technique is "unsafe" by modern standards. Stuff like this is not to be done in a "workplace" in 2020's developed world because Safety Sally says NO. But it works and it might sometimes be the most successful approach. Of course stuff like this are officially stunts these days. This one was not the most dangerous thing I have seen live watching felling done by professionals. In fact this was pretty close to the regular safer practice if you look closer. When someone pays this much attention while executing this maneuver it's not actually significantly more dangerous than going manual logging in the first place.
