If I'm trying a new climb that I find particularly hard and I find myself getting in a negative loop (missing because of something silly a few times in a row or getting frustrated) I tend to go climb a couple things that I find much easier for a little morale boost and to re-warmup so to speak. Works great for me, doesn't mean I'll send when I go back to my project but I tend to feel a lot more mentally refreshed which really helps.

Great vid! I would love to see a specific video on big overhangs and roofs, what to do different on them, body position etc. I know everyone always says 'tighten your core', but that's hella unspecific and I really struggle with anything overhanging. And also an 'outdoor climbing for dummies' please!

Really good tips. As a really short lady climber, I find that playing with my feet can be extremely helpful. Throwing a heel or toe hook, or playing with a high foot may give me that extra reach. If I am having a lot of trouble with specific moves I will try to do the move backwards. It seems to help me figure out body position or exactly where I should have my feet.

Another good tip to solve a route you're having troubles with is to ask a more experienced climber in your group to do it. Lot of times you can do all the moves individually, but inefficiently, so you lose energy and fail the crux (or even the top...). Watching a guru do it really, really helps!

Having the right mindset is such a golden bonus tip. Like most things, you're going to start being shit at it, if you're pissed or stressed. Take a couple of breaths before you start the climb and everything usually works out. Maybe. Probably be not. But it's fun, right?

Back in the early days of 1980 when i was also young I was amazed when a rock climber coleege showed some photos of him climbing and when i told him that i liked a photo he told me that i hold the paper the upside down and i then realised that he was climbing with his back of the body facing the ground in an absolutely horizontal state just as you tried to do here.

I love your 101s! Super helpful!!! I'd love a video on energysaving, so how to climb without getting too tired (maybe especially for women, as we tend to have less upper body strength), or a video about climbing styles (Jake vs. Tom vs. JP vs. Holly vs. Xian) to help us viewers find someone who has a similar style to us, to learn some moves, A video on climbing moves How to dyno advanced Warmup and cooldown and stretching routines More setting videos with Jake and Holly (or whoever wants to show this skill, I love these videos) Or anything else, I'll watch whatever you upload anyways. one thing i do, especially in competition when i don't know the grade, is i look at the route, read it then imagine myself trying it that way a few times before reading it again to see if there's anything that i've missed. after i'm 100% certain of what i'm going to do, i'll take a quick look at the crux(s) as i tie in (if i'm allowed to) then just go up it the way i had imagined.

Sometimes if I get in a rut and keep making the same mistake repeatedly, I'll go climb something else and come back to that problem later. One time I couldn't climb a simple V2, climbed the rest of my session, and tried it again at the end. Sent it first try.

great video but it's maybe a bit advanced for Climbing 101 ;) I'd love to see some tutorials about proper warm-up and staying injury-free. I think it's difficult to warm up climbing muscles without climbing. What's been recommended to me is to just do a few easier climbs to warm yourself up. Even at a professional level, the isolation zones that the climbers go to to warm up is just a bouldering wall with various different types of climbs. Also don't full crimp too often (some would say at all) for indoor climbs. You can easily ruin your tendons if you are full crimping on every climb and often they're not even necessary -- open palm is healthiest.

How do you get over hesitancy? I was working on a V5 last month (it's gone now in my gym), and the last move was a dyno. The way it was set though, if you hit the hold and didn't hold on, you had a very awkward fall, and after falling on it several times, I would get to that last move and had trouble fully committing to it, because I was thinking about not injuring myself on the fall rather than sticking it.
