I live in Northern California and had the opportunity to consume a pint of Pliny at a tap room. My nephew/roommate brews a couple IPA’s each month. I’ve been spoiled.

He recently explained that they dont use crystal anymore due to the oxidation risk from crystal. I think he said to go with equivalent cara-munich...

Thanks for the video, nice and easy. I have a stupid question on sparging. I have always thought that you need to sprage slowly less than 1litre a minute. Does it really matter how quickly?

I used to think that too, I use one of those all in one systems and the mash basket filter at the top makes a big difference, I fill it to the top and then it trickles through the mesh really slowly and kind of works like a sparge sprinkler thing. (He says Confidently 😂😂😂)

@@DillonOsborne Yeah essentially i believe you just want to avoid your sparge water tunneling down one spit instead of evenly sprinkling through the grain, which is easier done slowly

The mesh screens on top of the malt pipe help distribute the sparge water along the area the grain rests, avoiding the water to run through only a small portion of the grains.

Do you bag the hops by timings with the recipe builder or just by the variety? The video looks like it’s done by the timings, all in a neat looking hop tea bag.

We do our ready made kits with the tea bags and times on them. Our custom kits don't normally, because we won't know the times the recipe needs. But it is something we are working on. We packed this kit like this, to make the brewing easier for me.

I had a small sample before dry hopping. It removes then instantly grows the hair on your chest. High ABV and IBUs.... But it tastes good.
