Mercedes-Benz vehicles can come equipped with blind spot and lane assist features, commonly known as ADAS systems. These systems use radar sensors to determine proximity to other vehicles, to sense obstacles and sometimes, roadway markings.
Your customer may visit your shop due to blind spot indicators on all the time or a driver display message stating Blind Spot Assist Disabled. Once the new part is installed, it will need to be properly commissioned which includes SCN coding.
The sensors are mounted in the rear lower corners of the rear bumper cover. They are exposed to water and debris flung up by the rear tires and fail often. It’s in your best interest to replace both rear sensors, even if only one has currently failed.
When commissioning a new sensor, you have the option to extract data from the old sensor also referred to as the ECU. This is the preferred method if the original sensor still communicates. If using this method, you will want to leave the bumper cover removed until commissioning is complete.
Before beginning, be sure you have a stable internet connection and have the latest Mercedes-Benz software update installed.
Connect the vehicle to a suitable vehicle power supply, like our PS-M2.
