I love how you did the training person to person first. I have a wonderful german shepherd who we fostered then adopted. She is great on recall as long as there is nothing else around, but pretty reactive on leash, when off leash she rushes other dogs that she doesn't know if they are taller than her. Our trainer recommended this e-collar for her and I'm looking forward to working with her on it. Having that stimulation to come back to me is exactly what we need.

I have a cockerspaniel he understands recall, comes to me when i say so however when he is offleash in forest and IS in bigger distance and he catches certain smell of animal or something disturps him too much he ignores anything i say and runs after him last time he almost ended Up on highway if i didnt yell of my lungs at him to come back......i tried everything so i wanna know if purchasing ecollar would be right Choice to give him that tingle in his Brain that am calling and he can realise ,, oh my owner is calling to back off and return" i just wanna reassurance of his safety and because he is hyperaktive dog its hard to lower his energy on leash thats why i prefer off leash long walks trough forest.....And when we were are in public he is always on leash but whenever car passes by he wants to run after it....i tried to train him to not do that but everything in his Brain IS to chase the car and he doesnt care about any food or treats its again bad thing of his behaviour ....thanks for Ur reply or anybody's who IS more educated in ecollars i would really appreciate .

Hamilton! I am totally hooked to these videos of how you teach the use of e-collars. It’s a bit difficult for me to know the exact moment you press the button, for how long, and when you stop. You showed it on the first video when you were ‘training’ the owner of the Doberman. Would it be possible if you edit the videos and add like a red button 🚨🔴 on one of the corners that says: “button pressed” when you pressed the button; then like a “loading bar” 🪫during the seconds that you have the button pressed -showing for how long you pressed the button. Then finally, like a green button taht says: “button released!🎉”, once you release the button? Since we can’t see your hands, it’s almost impossible to associate the exact moments for all of this!

I have a question with that method. You always say that you have to give the freedom of decision. So because of that, for me it’s more logical to do it like: saying the dog’s name, if the dog doesn’t reply “tap tap tap”, when the dog looks at me I release the pressure. So why you start to put pressure just before you say the dog’s name?

@@robinmcalpine1014 Oh so you mean the same way ppl just buy dogs just because how they look and "researching" about the breed once they get them and it's not what they expect they either abuse the dog, abandoned it, raise it wrong might attack other people or animals. All could have been avoid if they just did research. Not everyone wants to spend $1000+ for training when most things can be learned and on top of that most trainer are not that good and just want the money. DO YOUR RESEARCH
@robinmcalpine10145 ай бұрын
@@lazyking7773 Yes! I mean EXACTLY that. I am a professional dog trainer. I also own two pit bulls. I’m the very first one in any conversation to advocate for the APBT. Not everyone should own one. Mals & GSD need a staff. And EVERY dog needs training. You don’t have to spend $1000’s either. But ANY aversive tool in the hands of an uneducated, unsupervised idiot is a potentially devastating situation in a powder keg that the dog will ultimately have to pay for.
@lazyking77735 ай бұрын
@@robinmcalpine1014 you're talking about something different than I am. I'm not saying just buy an e collar and use it. If someone wants to buy one they need to do research. Many dog trainer explain how to online. And yes of course all dogs need training but some things ppl can self teach. I also have a pitbull I adopted. She's my first larger dog after my Chiwahwa and she obviously needed training. I've done loads of research and self trained her with great improvements. I've also trained her on an e collar(good quality one) after doing research and now I can walk her at night without holding the leash with minor distractions and without having to use the e collar but have it on just in case. I am also planning to take her for training after finding a trainer that doesn't cost an arm and a leg because somethings I can't teach her. My whole point is not everything needs a professional if you do research. Everything is on the internet.

If you don’t know how to train a dog with an electronic collar already consult someone who does! It can go great if you know what you are doing or terrible if you don’t!!!

at 5:30 you said, "It's just negative reinforcement" but isn't it positive punishment? It's basic operant conditioning and by definition it's positive (adding stimulus) and negative (removing stimulus) punishment.
@CCOREY511 ай бұрын
No, it’s negative reinforcement because the stim is so light that it’s just an irritation or slight uncomfortable sensation that stops as soon as the dog turns to look and come to the handler. It REINFORCES, ie increases the likelihood of the behavior of the recall. To be positive punishment it would have to be stronger, be actually aversive to the dog, enough to DIMINISH the likelihood of repeating an unwanted behavior.
@HLCC3039 ай бұрын
Negative reinforcement = Removing the pressure in this case. Positive punishment = Delivery of a correction
@punisher18102 Жыл бұрын
So you give the command then pressure ? Or command then pressure ?
@AaronKelton11 ай бұрын
I’m not a trainer, but I think the pressure can also be the command/cue (without saying anything). Imagine you’re mute and this is the only way to communicate with your dog. You can do both so there is association, and then over time drop the verbal cue and solely rely on the pressure/prong.

@JesterJ71Ай бұрын
Not exactly, they're still acclimating the dog to the collar and every time he comes back the dog gets paid. The stim is so low that the dog is only slightly confused about the pressure but not stressing about it. If the dog fears the collar, then you call his name and the stim was higher/aversive, that would be a negative connection. The ecollar should always be seen as something positive for your dog. For instance, putting a leash on a dog that never worn one, he'd be terrified of it being put on, until he's conditioned to enjoy it.
