In this video I am going to show you how to connect your Mac Computer to a Windows computer over your Wifi network.
I am using a Macbook Pro with Mac OS Ventura V 13.1 and a Razer Laptop running windows 11.

a huge thank you to you my friend, just rebuild my Alienware a few months ago running Windows 10 and started using OBS to record my Computer repairs and all and i couldn't figure out how to transfer files from my PC to my 2012 Macpro for editing my videos and just realize that the Password was from a Microsoft account instead of the actual admin account when i set up the PC and i can finally transfer my files from PC to Mac now. Huge thank you my friend

This was very helpful. I had an issue that some others may face. Even after following the steps in this video, the two laptops were not visible to each other. (You can check by pinging with the IPs). In my case, the catch was my router. Typically routers have 'Client isolation or AP isolation', which keeps each device from seeing another one on the network. This should be turned off. For me, this was disabled by default. However, I turned it on (apply) and then, off (apply) again. After this, the two laptops were able to ping each other and the procedure in this video worked.

This was very helpful, but unable to connect to the latest version of windows 11 pro as the advance network settings window has now changed and am unable to find your window in the video, any help would be gratefully received please.

@Touchtechnologyreview the most bizarre detail is that I login to my PC using local username and pin, but had to use Microsoft account and pass to access it from Mac. They have done excellent jobs at complicating things that should be accomplished with a couple of clicks. Thanks for your help!

Awesome tutorial! I had problems with the credentials but once I logged in with my Microsoft email and password (instead of my user name and PIN) it fianlly worked! Thank you very much mate.

I'm having issues logging in (OSX-Win), its a fresh install of Windows 11 and i have tried all possible combinations of name and password, name and windows pin under the registered user on OSX side. I'd rather not change to a local account on the Windows machine. Any ideas how to resolve this?

@@graeme7675 I resolved by converting the Windows account to a "local account". Also, I turnd PINs off, so that I was back to logging in with good ol' password.

Awesome! thanks man. My sharing just stopped working. using the IP instead of the computer name of the PC seemed to do the trick.

Works great, not an easy way, my mom would not achieve this ; but for the geek I am it's perfect. Even with my network which is Win10 ethernet wired and a few wifi Macs. Thx a lot _

I’m glad you did this; however, I have one question : why is it so difficult to do this? Why can Macs recognize each other instantly on a network with a few clicks here, and there, but connecting Macs and windows is so difficult?

Agreed it is a bit harder than it should be. Since Apple introduced Air drop amongst their own devices it made it even easier than before. However at this stage there is no cross platform support for this protocol. I believe there are some third party tools available but I haven't tested them out as of yet. So once you set this up using the IP address I think it is the way to go over a local network.

Hi great tutorial but I have a problem. I am not getting a pop up box asking for my user name and password when I click connect and then eventually get an error message saying "there was a problem connecting to the server 192............ I have double checked the IP address on my PC and definitely on the same wifi - any ideas? Windows 11 and Ventura 13.6.7 Thanks so much, appreciate your help!

Hard to say why. Check that you have enabled sharing on both Mac and Windows computers. If enbabled on both, it could be a firewall block on the Windows computer?

@@Touchtechnologyreview Thanks for your reply - def enabled on both, and have gone back over the video step by step to make sure. One thing i did notice is that your Current Profile in the networks settings is private networks and mine is set to Public networks - maybe that? although i did set network discovery to on to see if it would work but no.....

Excellent tutorial, but I am having issues logging in to the PC. Does the PC have to have a password? That is the only reason I can think of that is preventing me from logging in from my Mac.

It worked for me but only one way. I can share from windows to mac but not from mac to windows. Anyone know a fix?

works but need one more step: follow your directions to a keystroke but that didn't work. what worked was disabling on pc windows hello and you must sleep pc then wake up and login with Microsoft account credentials (not the pc pin# or fingerprint). then login to pc server from Mac and shared folders showed instantly in a pop-up to select folders to open in a new Mac finder window.

Make sure that both computers are on the same WiFi network.

This is kind of stupid. What’s the purpose of enabling file sharing on the Mac, if you share the folder on Windows, and from the Mac you just connect to that Windows share?

At then end I have some suggestions. Check if you are using Microsoft account for login or local account. You can change from one to the other in system settings, described at the end of the video.

This was great! Thanks for the clear directions. :). A couple of questions, please?: Is there no way to just connect both a PC and a Mac to a network, and navigate via the network map to pull files to and fro? Or is a direct connection the only way? Also, is there any way to keep them connected, or do I have to make a point of logging on via the Mac every day? Thanks again!
