I feel your pain. When I was a kid I happened to be at a shop that sold vintage gear and had always wanted to play vinyl. I literally knew nothing about it and paid a small fortune for it. Looking back I never had it set up properly, blew two sets of speakers..A drunk friend finally fell on the turntable and broke the arm. That's when I gave up and sold it all. I just now 10 or so years later randomly found a steal and did it right. lol

Thanks for this video. Last May I bought this turntable and used your FM Tuner method and it works great. I'm using a 540-watt Sony shelf system, but I'm debating getting a Bose Wave. Love the Sony, but (and I knew this when I bought it) it doesn't have a headphone jack. This video made the decision of collecting vinyl easier when I saw how simple these methods are.

I'm not being smart but it might say it on the actual speakers! If they're not you can buy a small amplifier and connect the turntable and the speakers to it! Active speakers are usually pretty expensive, the good ones are anyway!

13lindamarie active speakers have an inbuilt amplifier. they need their own power supply. passive speakers on the other hand do not have inbuilt amps and you need to use dedicated amps to amplify the sound before it hits the speakers. passives do not have a power supply! hope this helps!

a pc doesn't have an amplifier on board but you are able to hear sound coming out of your pc speakers, why? because the are active. Every type of speaker you can hook up to a pc or with an aux jack to your phone is active.

I was actually connecting this previously directly to a 7 year old Philips LCD TV ( i have no speakers ) which sound wise was pretty good however having to stare at the blank tv just to play music was annoying so i hooked it up to a pair of cheap computer speakers i had stashed away so all good now. i know its been 11 months, and this seems to be an honest mistake, but for anyone reading this now, this is wrong. this turntable already has a pre-amp, if you get passive (not active) speakers then the extra component you actually need is an amplifier NOT a pre-amp
@razrv3lc
@razrv3lc 5 жыл бұрын
If your turntable has a preamp built in then you could get a set of powered speakers (which would generally be able to function as a receiver as well) and be good to go. A popular choice I've seen for starting out is something like the AudioTechnica LP120 connected to a set of active speakers. The turntable has a preamp and the speakers also operate as the receiver. As long as those four things are present, it'll work.

The answer is YES if you get PC Speakers with the proper amplifier built in. You even said it yourself, why say no? Its what I did, i used an RCA female to 2.5mm Female adapter and plugged the speakers right in. and you get all the best of the best if you dont use $30 speakers, get a nice set like i did, with all the bells the Corsair SP2500 comes to mind. (i use logitech z640) the answer is "depends", definitely not "no"

i bought a really cheap turntable, and i’ve noticed the sound isn’t as amazing as people say. does the quality of the turntable affect the sound quality/ bass? because the sound isn’t that bass-y i guess. new to vinyl.
@databits

Yeah, unfortunately a turntable's sound quality is directly affected by it's build quality. A cheap CD player can still rock the house, but a cheap turntable just turns music into noise.

Great video! If I buy a pair of bookshelf speakers (such as the Micca Club 3 Bookshelf Speakers), will I need to buy any additional cables/wires? If you look at the Micca speakers on Amazon, one of the pictures shows a back view, and you can see these two gold-looking input "sockets." What kind of cable/wire do I need (if it's not included with the speakers and/or AT LP60) to connect these speakers to an amplifier? Also, what do you think of the Lepai LP-2020A+ Tripath Class-T Mini Audio Amplifier? I am a college student not necessarily interested in audiophile quality and looking to take up as little desk space as possible. Thanks so much!

I just recently acquired a Sony PS-LX300USB (pretty much the same unit), cheap, from a pawn shop. Was mostly interested in trying some needle-drops. Only thing I'm not crazy about is the rather heavy tracking force. W/ a force gauge, I measured 3.78g. Quite a contrast to my Sony PS-LX520 linear-tracker, which measures in at about 1.2-1.5 (depending on which cartridge I use).

Great! I should be able to hook this up to my LG sound system (I forget the exact name but I think it had bass in the name) it has rca ports on the back of the main unit which is what you connect the speakers to. Great little system and it's very cheap at around $120 It has beautiful highs and nice bass that isn't overpowering because once you activate the bass feature that's when all the highs and mids turn into melted butter hahaha anyways it has aux which of course is for the rca cable and I know it should work because I have a cheap crosley like turntable hooked up to it now that isn't horrible but this is an upgrade quite obviously

Those are just ordinary audio inputs, so connect your AT-LP60 RED/White cables to one of the 3 and press the input button on your remote that matches that input. Hi there, great video - thank you! Very quick question relating to the Dell PC speaker setup at about 9:25 - I was wondering, did you simply use the one adapter cable with the (female) Aux line to (female) RCA leads to use the turntable with the Dell speakers? I ask, because I would have assumed that one would need a powered adapter to covert the analogue signal to digital. For context, I am trying to do something very similar, i.e. I am wondering whether I will be able to connect the (RCA) output of the AT-LP120xBT to my Dell Zylux A525 PC speakers and subwoofer, and was wondering if I could simply use a cable like the one you have. There is one on Amazon - J&D 3.5 mm to 2 RCA Cable, Gold Plated Copper Shell Heavy Duty 3.5mm Female to 2RCA Female Stereo Audio RCA Cable Adapter - I wonder if it will work... Thanks in advance! James

I currently have my turntable (sony PSLX300USB) hooked up to my Panasonic stereo that only has inputs "AUX 1" and "AUX 2" And no sound is coming out of them. I switched it to "line", matched the colors, and tried both inputs and still no luck. Anything i'm missing? Do I need to buy that adapter cause i'm only using the cables thats attached to the turntable.

@Brent: The outputs on the back are LINE outputs, meaning you can connect the turntable to an external amplifier, but not straight up speakers. Secondly, I would sell that thing and get an AT-LP60. That's one of those players that may ruin your records.

Thanks for making this video! I've had an AT-LP60 lying around for months with no use. Is a cable adapter all I need to connect the turntable to a set of good speakers (Harman Kardan)?

I've been looking at the Technica AT-LP120. My receiver is a couple year old Marantz 1605 which does not have phono or aux inputs (bought it for all the HDMI connectivity) however there are analog audio in L and R for Cable/Sat, DVD, and CD. I could use one of those right? I would imagine that should also take care of the ground as well eh? Thanks for the video. I guess I never thought I'd be looking into getting a turntable these days so not having that on this Marantz when I bought it didn't matter much to me. But lo and behold, they are back with a vengeance!

Cool cool, I was pretty sure I could hook mine up to my bluetooth iphone speaker because it had the line in on the back. Great video ! Very helpful.
