My friend has liked my e-bike for a long time and asked me to upgrade his new old stock TREK 3700 to one like mine. I built a 36V 250/350W TSDZ2 Tongsheng mid drive motor with torqe sensor into his bike with a 36V 12.5Ah battery. The cost of the conversion was under $500 and I was done within two hours. This motor now has helical gears, so it runs very quietly. If you want to convert your bike yourself, note that it can be fitted in the 68 and 73 mm wide bottom bracket positions.

Thank you. In the city, I can do about 50 km with a lot of starts, stops and strong acceleration. The battery has never been fully discharged. On flat terrain, on a long ride, I have done more than 90 km on a single charge without going faster than 25 km/h.

for comparison, I got the 48V 250W version with a 770Wh battery (16Ah). I get arround 100 kms of range, going 25-30 kph with level 4-5 assist, because I'm lazy :). I am about 80 kilos with clothes and all, the bike is a decathlon MTB (rockrider 520), weighting about 25 kilos now after the conversion (the battery is pretty heavy) and I go mostly on flat tracks about 50-50 asphalt/gravel.

I have a Trek Dual Sport 4 (2017 vintage) the cables run inside the tube to the bottom of the pedal bracket exiting under the bottom bracket so will probably get in the way of motor mounting any suggestions on how to handle I've heard of some rerouting the cables which id rather not do since its hydraulic brake do you think you can put any kind of spacer between motor and bike frame to give enough clearance for the cables to pass through though I saw one video where guy folded up some inner tube and clamped it between the frame and motor to creat just enough space for cables to move freely (obviously brake cable doesn't need to move just not be compressed what about performance how fast if your pedalling can you get it to go Ive ridden many hours on Trek Verbe 2 plus ebike with Bosch torqu sensing motor and I just love it I just hate the $3,000 plus price although it does look cable wise plus intergrated batter in Verbe 3 much nicer L O L

Hi, as I see the Trek Dual Sport 4 (2017-2018) has a GXP bottom bracket. An important question would be how wide this bottom bracket is. The TSDZ2 can be fitted with bottom bracket up to 73 mm wide. At a width of 73 mm, there's not much room for any gapping (max 1-1.5mm). If your bottom bracket is 68 mm, you can play a little with the spacers in the kit (1x1.5mm and 1x 2.2mm wide). As newer bikes have wider bottom brackets, this max of 73 mm is unfortunately quite a limitation. Unfortunately I couldn't find any photos of your bike or a description of the bottom bracket and its surroundings. In my opinion, the 350W motor has a pretty nice power. The speed limit can be configured in the menu, if I remember correctly to a maximum of 45 km/h. I can drive my own Merida with the front 42T sprocket at about 40 km/h for long distances if there is no headwind, on flat roads. I should note that at higher revs the engine power drops rapidly, so with a bigger front sprocket you get higher top speeds, but of course with less climbing power.

@@mcelec7603 Hi thanks for such a quick response. I unfortunately dont know how to add the pictures you thought might be helpful to utube nor do I even know where you located America or somewhere else I'm including my email address and phone inumber in case you wouldn't mind emailing me directly in which case I can send you some pictures through email i just took of bike with close-ups of the bottom bracket. from what I can measure bracket is at tops 72 mm wide possibly more like 70 I thought I read somewhere that there are different size motors going all the way up to around 110 mm bottom brackets for fat bike riders so not sure why you were worried about that I'm more worried about the cables that exit down tube and cross under the bottom bracket. both the front and rear derailleur do that, not the brake tube as I thought in the previous post. I know other people have converted Trek Dual Sports from other forum posts but apparently they moved cables or tubes but just saw a video of a guy who Dremel tool ground down the cable holder and it looked like the cable still worked fine while routed under the mounted motor some new questions your shifting works fine without a switch to interrupt motor power while changing gears since none of the kits I've found include this like most Bafang kits due. where did you get your kit from a local or Internet dealer or directly from china like Ali Express ? most videos seem to indicate the Bafang is a more polished, perfected and reliable system but it also seems to me to be more like riding a motorcycle than an Ebike. I don't want that, I just want help going up hills I'm turning 70 in a few months and although I can navigate 30 - 50 mile rides the legs aint what they used to be and me and the wife love riding in Acadia National park in Maine where we used to have to possibly get off and walk long distances up hill essentially adding hours to our rides and cutting down on our overall distance traveled in one ride Then we started renting Trek Verge 2 plus ebikes and our eyes were open. Twice the distance half the time and all the beautiful scenery our eyes could take in L O L then we check the price and for the bike we really wanted was close to $5,000 from Trek, what a rip off I thought so thats why the interest in a Torq sensing system like the Bosch in the Treks so smooth so quiet just love them but not the price. 609-975-2299 robertthomson9027@gmail.com thanks again for your time and help

@mcelec7603
@mcelec7603 Жыл бұрын
Thanks. In principle, it could happen that when the motor controller fails, it would drive even when it shouldn't, but I haven't experienced this so far, so I simplified it. Of course, the brake cut off switch can provide extra security in this case.

Thanks I never considered controller failure but I suppose its a possibility. I'm currently installing 500w TD motor and I plan on just installing the left hand brake cut off for added safety. Please post a review video 6 months from now so we can see how well the bike does.

@@vibs1614 Well, yes, the 500 watt motor is strong enough if there is a problem. I also have a three-wheel electric bike with a throttle grip . It only has a 250 watt motor, but it still knocked my daughter over when she accidentally turned the throttle grip.

Thanks! I bought my own PSWPover batteries almost a year ago. I've done about 3000 km and so far it works as good as new. I'm careful not to run it completely flat and I almost always use a 40.5V charger so it's not fully charged. I've only charged it about 80 times. I haven't checked if it's really LG or Samsung cells and I haven't checked the capacity.

do i have to pedal hard to hit the 25kmh bcuz i heard that the motor is torque sensing
@mcelec7603
@mcelec7603 Жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. It's quite easy to pedal in turbo gear.
@garth62
@garth62 Жыл бұрын
They have both cadence and torques sensing - Torque sensing will give you instant power when setting off (as soon as you start presalling) and stop the moment you stop pedalling. Cadence sensing takes over whilst you are turning the pedals. Selecting higher assist levels makes human effort less.

How much does a conversion kit cost with a battery? One that is equivalent to an 85Nm motor and a 625Wh battery? Are there any disadvantages compared to an e-bike with the same specifications? Isn't it too low for off-road?
@mcelec7603
@mcelec7603 10 ай бұрын
You can choose from a wide range of options, battery from 36V to 48V, motors from 250W to 750W. For example, a 36V 350W motor is $260, a 36V 20Ah is $230, both from Germany. www.pswpower.com/?DIST=Q05GGw%3D%3D I have a 36V 350 W motor, it's good enough for off-roading, but the crank axle has only 15 mm diameter (Nowadays, that doesn't seem enough to jump ditches standing up.). The other weakness is, there is a sprag clutch that is connected to the crank axle. Its maximum torque is only 160Nm, so you can press the pedals with maximum 160Nm/0.17m (lenght of crank arm)= 941N say 94 Kg. On longer, steep climbs, more powerful motors are prone to overheating. Briefly about the disadvantages. I think that a motors of "normal" e-bike are more reliable and can withstand a greater load, but with this you can build a much cheaper, much easier to repair and much lighter bike, but you have to take better care of it.

Hi, the second connector on the splitter is for the headlight and taillight. There should be such a cable in the box: tinyurl.com/5bmt5a56 Since I did not use this connector, I sealed it with electrical tape. 12:27

You don't really need it on a high-quality road, I just left it on for my friend out of habit. I ride a lot of off-road with my own bike, so it helps to keep the chain from running off the front sprocket.

6months later: I did on mine as it didn't get in the way and I've de-electrified for a 3 week road trip, and re-electrified for my weekly shopping runs afterwards. I've just done another TSDZ2 and looks like the fd is staying on on this one too. Saves you splitting the chain too.

No. This 350 W motor is not powerful enough to run wild if the controller fails. With the brake, it can still be easily stopped. I'd think twice with a more powerful motor.
